Is A Visa Required For South Koreans To Enter The Us?

South Korea is part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), allowing its citizens to travel to the United States for tourism. However, US citizens do not need a tourist visa to enter South Korea. They must have a valid passport, a valid U.S. visa, proof of financial resources to cover the cost of their stay in the United States, a completed, signed Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-1605, a passport photograph, and evidence of their ties to South Korea.

From April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, the Korean Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) is not required for US citizens traveling to South Korea. However, American citizens must meet the country’s entry requirements for their nationality, including having the correct documentation. South Korean citizens can travel to the USA Visa-free through the Electronic Travel Authorization (ESTA), which allows them to enter the Republic of Korea without a visa.

IVisa offers a simple online service and application form to secure ESTA or Electronic System for Travel Authorization for South Korean citizens. This process takes less than ten minutes and can be done from anywhere. For short-term stays of 90 days, a visa is not required. However, for other purposes, such as employment, teaching English, and stays longer than 90 days, a U.S. visa is required.

South Korean citizens can also apply for e-Visa online for 30 days, arriving via 26 designated airports or three designated seaports. On reciprocity, U.S. citizens can visit South Korea without a visa for up to 90 days or less if the purpose of the trip is educational, employment, or teaching English.

The US Embassy in Seoul has resumed routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services for all visa categories and has been successful in lowering visa requirements. To travel without a visa on the VWP, a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval must be obtained before boarding a U.S. bound air ticket.
