Israeli citizens do not need a tourist visa when traveling to Russia, but they must be present when applying for the Russia Visa free. This visa typically allows a short-term stay, and according to the Russia-Israel bilateral agreement, citizens of Israel do not need visas to travel to Russia for up to 90 days unless the purpose of their visit is employment or education.
For citizens of 65 countries, a visa is not even required to enter Russia, with most of these countries having a length of stay without a visa of up to 90 days. However, for those from EU countries, Denmark, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, and others, a Russian visa application is likely required.
A visa is not required for Israeli passport holders visiting Russia for a short-term stay of 90 days. Applicants planning to stay for more than 90 days in any 180-day period require a visa if they are going to Russia to conduct commercial or work-related activities. As of 2024, Israeli citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 171 countries and territories, ranking the Israeli passport 21st in the world.
Beginning in 2024, Russian citizens planning a short visit to Israel will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) for entry into the country. Israeli citizens who may have Russian citizenship are asked to check and verify the issue of citizenship before arriving to visit Russia. There are a total of 169 visa-free travel destinations for Israel passport holders.

The laminated FAN ID allows access to stadiums, free transportation on match days, and discounts from cultural institutions. Multiple entry with FAN ID is possible from June 4 to July 15, 2018, and multiple exit is possible from June 4 to July 25, 2018. Which countries don t recognize Israeli passports?
Israel’s passports are not valid for travel to certain countries, including Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan. Thirteen countries do not accept Israeli passports, including Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen. Some countries also do not accept passports of other countries whose holder has an Israeli visa or stamp on it. Israeli immigration controls do not stamp passports with an entry visa, instead stamping on a separate insert that is discarded on departure.
However, a stamp from another country indicating that the person has entered Israel may frustrate the process. For example, an Egyptian departure stamp used in a passport at the Taba Border Crossing indicates that the person has entered Israel.
Some countries also ban direct flights and overflights to and from Israel. In August 2020, the United Arab Emirates permitted direct flights from Israel, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain authorized overflights. On 8 October 2020, Israel and Jordan reached an agreement to allow flights to cross over both countries’ airspace.
The borders of Israel, foreign relations of Israel, international recognition of the State of Palestine, legitimacy of Israel, list of states with limited recognition, right to exist, self-determination, and visa requirements for Israeli citizens are some of the factors that may affect passports.

And this is why I always try to say “I stand with civilians”, because regardless of whether it’s Russians, Ukrainians, Israelis, or Palestinians, citizens, especially children, deserve a chance at life and deserve to not fear literally dying every single day. Because people are people, and we’re all just trying to get by.
As an Israeli, I just want to say thank you for respecting our intellegence. A lot of people seem to think all Israelis are imperialist colonizers that are hungry for blood and want to kill all palestinians. We are not (at least most of us). For the most part I just want to live in a normal country with a normal goverment and I empathize with you for that
Well said, Roman. As a youtube blogger when in a foreign country met a citizen of that country and told him where he was from, the citizen gave him a disapproving look, to which the backpacker replied, “all countries have governments and then there are the people.” To which the citizen smiled and shyly said, “Yes, that’s true.” Keep fighting for your people.
For what it’s worth, while being extremely supportive of Ukraine and critical of Russia, I have never agreed with the western attempts to prevent Russian citizens from escaping the grip of Putin’s government. What’s going on here is that there is a theory that preventing defectors from leaving Russia will help lead to an internal coup against Putin – the pressure cooker theory, if you will. In other words, this is less about taking a moral stance and more about a deliberate policy that’s intended to make Russian citizens “take responsibility” for changing their own defective government. Personally, I think that’s ridiculously unrealistic and grossly unfair – I don’t think the average Russian has any sort of ability to effect the dictatorship, and the policy of preventing defectors is immoral and counterproductive, seeing as allowing young professionals leave Russia will likely hurt Putin far more than the alternative.
I mean, you’re not wrong… For me, I must say; I am against the Russian government but for the Russian people. I used to visit Pechory before the war, a very nice town with a wonderful monastery. You guys are amazing! And I wish all of you the best of lucks surviving your 1984-knock off society. Love from Estonia!
Romanian here (who watched the entire article). What I can say is: as a Central-Eastern European, I have to put effort into balancing my general agreement with your logic (I’ve followed your website since about 2018 so I know where you stand on many issues) with my emotions. You mentioned the double standards of Western attitudes towards Russian imperialism. From my country’s historical perspective, there is no greater fear than the West and Russia making deals over our heads. And in general, the idea that our voices (Central-Eastern Europe) don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. For example, how Germany and France ignored our concerns about Russia for many years, choosing instead to do business with Russia. And accusing us of “Russophobia” and “paranoia”. At least part of the West was not particularly concerned with Russian imperialism at the time. And we are very weary of a future where these attitudes would become normal again in the West, given their perceived “fatigue” towards Ukraine. Otherwise, you make good points. I respect you for your integrity and I agree that not all Russians should be held accountable for the actions of their government. But I will never, ever feel sorry for actual “Z” Russians. And one criticism I would mention – please don’t put Russia in the “Global South”. The other countries of the “Global South” have been victims of imperialism. Not being in Uncle Sam’s camp doesn’t give Russia the right to claim a place among such countries.
Since you were asking the big difference here’s the answer without any other commentary on the matter whether it’s right or wrong: Pogrom. Russians aren’t being hunted at the airports once their plane lands on the airstrip (in Russia) and their houses aren’t being marked by symbols so that others could break in and eradicate them (in France).
I think you nailed it when you said that the Israeli/Hamas situation more closely mirrors the Chechen wars. In both cases the aggressor was retaliating for terrorist acts. People tend to look the other way when atrocities are committed in the name of combating terrorism. That is why Russia was not cancelled after the Chechen wars. However, people tend not to look the other way when atrocities are committed for no apparent reason. Just an opinion.
I agree with every word you said. Well articulated, Roman. I’m 50 yrs old and have been perusal and wondering about the US’s relationship with Israel and the billions given and the double-standards..There’s always an agenda. It’s disgusting all of this. Peace to the Palestinians, Israelis, Ukrainians and Russians. And peace to my fellow Latvians that have put up with a lot that still seek some justices. The tension still lingers here for notable reasons after a few decades of “freedom”. It’s all a bag of crap. Thx as always, Roman.
Well spoken, Roman. At the age of 70 I realize I know less than ever. At your age, I protested the American involvement in Vietnam and we had a victory, of sorts. I thought peace was always the best choice. But then everyone forgot and the wars went on and on. I only recently discovered where Chechnya is located. And where I live is much more remote than Spassk, even.
As someone who currently lives in Israel, it’s horrifying for me to see innocent humans being carried off into Gaza by Hamas terrorists. Those people are mostly civilians – young and old, men and women, children and toddlers… I mean, imagine yourself in their position. And the young, happy, lively people massacred at the Re’im music festival… I mean, how do you react to that? Young, beautiful people being slaughtered when all they wanted was to celebrate love and freedom. And later, I was horrified when seeing the images from Gaza. The destruction, the crying faces, the screams… again, Gaza is bleeding. I am angry, the Hamas are bloodthirsty terrorists who aim to hurt innocent people in the most sadistic ways possible – I mean, if it were really about fighting for the freedom of Palestine, they’d be fighting the IDF. But the Re’im massacre had nothing to do with fighting for the freedom of Palestine and confronting the IDF, it was about causing as much grief and horror as possible. Freedom fighters don’t target civilians, terrorists do. But… amidst all the anger and humiliation overflowing Israel at the moment, it’s extremely easy to overlook and ignore the full picture. The truth is, the situation didn’t start on 7 October when the Hamas managed to enter Israel and slaughter innocent people, did it? One must be really, really foolish to overlook the bigger picture and Israel’s fault in this situation. And here is the bigger picture: occupation breeds terror. You can deny it all you want, you can blame it on religion (which does play a role here, and I’ll get to it later), you can blame it on mentality, you can go full bigot and blame it on the shade of one’s skin… ignorance is bliss.
I appreciate how you consistently check yourself when discussing delicate important topics like this and try to make sure you’re not being unclear, unfair, or close-minded. For the record, I always thought the travel bans based on where youre from were unfair and unnecessary. It would be nice if you were able to come to the US. I know nothing about the Israel-Palestine thing, but I applaud your presentation of your perspective
I’m part Cherokee (Native American), my ancestors were force relocated in an event called the Trail of Tears. I can’t go just back to my ancestral home of Georgia USA or whatever it was called back then and kick someone out of their house. There are some parallels. I don’t do the religion thing personally, I think its silly and mostly a stupid waste of time. To be honest I don’t see good on either of the sides now. When innocent people are killed just trying to escape the death and carnage leaders need to be held to account. A response to Oct 7th is only natural and is expected but Israel is by definition committing war crimes destroying a refugee camp, or the extreme death toll is not proportional as more innocent people are dead than Hamas terrorists. Putin is doing the same in those regards when he sends rockets into apartment buildings and schools in Ukraine. I don’t blame the average Russian, Israeli, Palestinian etc… The cowards like Putin and Netanyahu or Haniyeh are responsible but there does come a point where the citizens help their own destruction by inaction and fear while letting their horror become others. I feel you. No worries friend, not going anywhere.
Well there is one big difference between Israel and Russia. Israel is furious about the crimes Hamas has comitted at the beginning of this war and they are taking their revenge for it, not saying its justified, its still horrible. On the other hand, we have Russia, country which bombing the shit out of Ukrainin cities, just because their “special military operation” has virtually failed and they are trying to force ukraininan surrender by killing as many civilians as possible. So I dont really think comparing these two situations is fair, but again I have to repeat myself, war crimes are terrible anyway, regardless of the reason, the perpetrator came up with.
I think you make really good points. One big difference here though is what set off the current hostilities in both places. In the case of Russia-Ukraine, no attacks on Russia were launched from Ukrainian soil by the group that was last elected to lead Ukraine, like what happened in Gaza. Instead Russia basically said we think there are nazis running Ukraine so we’re going to surround it and invade it, and in many cases commit genocide against the people there, kidnap children to take back to Russia etc. If the Ukrainian government had last been elected in 2006 and had launched a massive cross border attack into Russia I think the world community would’ve been more understanding of Russia’s retaliation. Likewise if the current attacks on Gaza had started without the Hamas attack but instead had been the Israeli government surrounding Gaza, making statements that they don’t like the people running things in Gaza, and then launched a massive genocidal war against Gaza the world response would be a lot different. The US would be hard pressed to maintain its support of Israel and I think you would see similar sanctions being imposed against the state of Israel and its people as you see currently imposed on Russia. That doesn’t make what Israel is doing right, its not, and they’re paying a heavy diplomatic price for their heavy handed response, but the circumstances really are different. That being said I completely agree with you that I’m kind of in the middle shrugging my shoulders because there are very bad actors on both sides and innocent people caught in the middle on both sides so I’m mostly just hoping that things don’t spiral out of control and turn the whole middle east into a massive shitshow with the US military sucked into the middle of it.
This stream has taken a great deal of courage to make and I fully appreciate that. You are seeing what many see. I don’t know a great deal about how this aggression between Palestinian and Israel’s began from the start but it is awful. The world is boiling over like a pressure cooker whose valve has blown. Don’t give in to depression Roman, the world is a beautiful place and tiny kindnesses happen every day but don’t make the news. Wishing you health and happiness 😊
I’m glad you have a similar “Both sides are committing horrendous things therefore I don’t support either of them” mindset to me. It’s insane how readily people have been to “Pick a side” and or how quickly people have chosen which side they support with such a complex situation as the Israel-Palestine conflict. A conflict with decades of history behind it and one that isn’t as black and white as people treat it.
1956 the United States found itself on the same side of the USSR in the Suez Canal crisis. The United States realized that it could no simultaneously be against USSR Imperialism via putting down the Hungarian Revolution but be supportive of UK imperialism in Egypt. Would be nice to see the same desire for consistency today
The Israel palestine war is such a difficult topic. These boarders from the countries there changed 200 times in the last 500 years with world wars and colonialism which makes it really hard to say which lands belong to whom. In case of Ukraine and russia. Ukraine had been annexed by Russia gained its independence has contracts over it with russsia which clearly shows which is ukrainian terretory and which is the russian one. And there is a democratic goverment in power in Ukraine and not some islamic terror group like in Gaza. The Group who runs the autonomous west bank lands is a islamic group but way more peaceful than the hamas. Isreal also got the right to defend its terretorry from an attack some goes for every other country. How they conduct their ground offence can be critisiced
Both wars are not the same. You are right, what happened on October 7. is kinda comparable to the Chechen terror in Russia, especially the hijackings of the Dubrovka theatre and the school in Beslan, and if you combine all attacks and bombings by the Chechens from the 1990’s up to 2004 (or 2005, I honestly can’t remember when those asshats actually stopped their terror) you might actually reach (or slightly surpass) the number of civilians who have been killed on one single day in Israel by the Hamas. Civilians, I’d like to add, who at least in many cases at the rave, Hamas massacred, had very gladly shared a joint or bong, and then parleyed, with any Palestinian they could have met. Remember, they called it the “Peace Festival”. Here as well as in the Kibbuzzim, which should not be mistaken for the illegal settlements in the West Bank, Hamas acted like the Dirlewanger Brigade in the USSR or Warsaw, during the uprising – burning, slashing, stabbing, shooting and raping indiscriminately, old people, children, women, men, often after tying them up, burning down and looting houses, drinking Coke from their vicitm’s fridges and using their Playstations right next to the corpses of whole families. And they even filmed it and posted it on the social media. This is one of the rare cases where I have no issue with calling these bastards Nazis. After this and the abduction of additional 200 people, how would any government anywhere in the world react? Russia declared war on Chechnya after some houses had been blown up, with how many victims?
Massive respect to you my guy, I have loved your opinion on these dark situations for a long time and I believe most people, given the chance, would hold the same options.. keep doing what you are doing, hopefully things can get better eventually.. Everything seems dark at the moment… On a lighter note, I can’t help but notice when you say “lets be honest” I hear “lesbianas” made me chuckle 😂😅
Thank you for sharing your views Roman. I really appreciate how you always try to see the situation from various points of view and don’t jump to conclusions just based on what social media is focusing on. Fyi as a Pole I would be happy to see Russians, who had to leave their country because they don’t support what’s going on, joining us here, just as we welcomed the people of Ukraine. It is very sad to see how the world reacted to all of the recent conflicts.
The fact that Palestinians are weaker militarily doesn’t mean they are morally right. Supporting the weaker side just because it is weak is a complete fallacy and may stem from intellectual laziness. What matters is the intentions and the values of each side. While one side wants to live peacefully in its own sovereign liberal democratic state, the other wants to invade that state, purge it from all non-Muslims, and establish a caliphate state. Though both are weaker militarily compared to their opponents, Comparing Ukrainians to Palestinians is incorrect because they do not share the same values, morals, and goals. If any comparison is to be made, it is the Russians (Z supporters) who share more values with Palestinians, i.e.- opposition to democracy, dictatorship, anti-liberalism, corruption, racism, lack of freedom of speech and protest, self-victimization, sanctification of death etc. Ukrainians on the other hand are willing to live peacefully and in a liberal democratic state – same as Israelis. regarding sanctions – Russia is primarily criticized and sanctioned for starting an unprovoked invasion into a sovereign state. The same way as Hamas invaded Israel unprovoked on October 7th while performing all kinds of horrific atrocities to Israeli civilian population. So, if comparing both cases, it is Hamas and the Palestinians who support it that need to be sanctioned.
I think you are absolutely right to compare these situations, but from an analytical perspective, I think there are countless reasons why Israel gets away with it. Aside from the obvious stuff like the alignment many countries have with Israel, the Israelis also get a very handy boost from the huge number of English speakers in their country, who also use the same internet as western countries, at least significantly more so than Russia. Not to mention, most people in the west, if not partially Jewish themselves (including me), also tend to personally know someone from Israel or at least someone Jewish. This is made even more significant my the fact that many Americans literally don’t know the difference between the two things – something the Israeli government has often used to its advantage. Proof of this is in how readily many right-wing Americans support funding for Israel, only moments after laughing down the idea of further support for Ukraine. As well as this, Israel also benefits, along with Ukraine, from sharing a skin tone with most of the west, something Palestinians unfortunately lack, instead getting the combo of having darker skin and following Islam, two things a lot of westerners hate for literally no reason (especially since a certain orange guy was president of the USA). And lastly I’d add that, at least in my experience, a lot of people from Israel are actually more patriotic than their Russian counterparts. In Spain, I knew a family who wanted to send their daughter back to Israel to complete her military service, even though she was not required to.
I think there are some distinct differences that need to be addressed to sort of understand the issues surrounding Israel. First the founding documents of Hamas actually calls for the destruction of Israel and the eradication of Jews. So from the start there is no real negotiating. Second Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005 in an attempt to normalize relations then the rocket attacks started again. Second it has been shown that Hamas puts tunnels underneath Hospitals and Civilian targets to hide munitions. On top of that there is evidence Hamas purposely push civilians into areas where they fire their rockets and missiles from with the direct purpose of forcing Israel to fire at them killing civilians. The saddest part of all of this is that there is no good way to solve this problem. (edit) so after re reading my comment I wanted to make one more point, Hamas understands full well that it can not win in a conventional sense which is why they do such things with Civilian lives.
I think when it comes to a lot of European countries, especially those bordering russia, when it comes to attitudes about russian passports and stuff, it’s not as much about actually putting sanctions on russia because righteousness, but more actual fear that they’ll be next invaded, and letting russians freely cross the border when pretty much everyone is getting drafted to military in russia, risks the possibility of more spies and possible undercover military forces entering countries. …also a lot of European border countries kinda have some PERSONAL feelings and memories about russia as a military power, so they’re all kinda on edge. Actually I’m pretty sure nobody would care about ukraine unless they were against russia. I for example live in a border town in Finland, and I’d be lying if i said tensions weren’t hight after ukraine war started. My part of the town has like 3 pharmacies, and they ALL were out of iodine tablets for MONTHS after the war started. My grandma is legit still concerned for the possibility of war sparking out, even tho she doesn’t even usually really follow politics or anything. Military drills and trainings and stuff have increased a shit ton. Not to mention, before the war most finns were against nato, but after it started pretty much everyone wanted to join. It’s not that we think one war is morally more wrong or tragic than the other. It’s that when it’s russia doing the attack, it’s more personal. None of us fear israel or some other far away country targetting us, so it’s easier to ignore in day to day life.
There is one big difference between those two wars and that is that Russian and Ukraine lived in peace, everyone know what are international borders and respect them until Putin decide to take Crime and then whole Ukraine, that s one big difference. Izrael was never totally solved problem while Ukraine was.Russian Ukraine war is much bigger and it is literally changing world so reaction is not same. And I need to also tell that West is not perfect, we have our on problems, we have corruption,we have incompetent politicians, we dont have enough people or natural gas, we have many problems and I hope we get better. You will get upvote from me because you are right there are hypocrite reaction from West, and we need doing best to find best solution for peace in world.
As an American citizen I agree with you. Israel has had decades to reach some kind of humanitarian settlement with Palestine, instead, the citizens continue to reelect Netanyahu, a man who refuses every attempt at any kind of compromise, instead, only being more and more cruel to Palestine. I too abhor the attack by Hamas, but I can also understand how Palestine had reached a boiling point and now is relying on Iran. I have so many Jewish friends, yet very few will agree with me. The truth is that Israel has a lot of political power in the US government.
Just because you are young, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn a bit of history. First, Israel is not invading or attacking a free, independent country, like Russia did with Ukraine. Israel is responding to a terrorist attack, where over 1500 young people from across the whole world have been brutally killed. There’s no Palestinian state for a reason, they refused over 5 proposals for the creation of such a state in the last 30 years. Second, the US, the western Europeans and the East Europeans still remember the harm that the USSR – old Soviet union, currently known as Russia, did. Old Soviet union destroyed over 25 countries after the second world war. So don’t expect to ever be truly loved, trusted, or cherished as a Russian. You are the embodiment of the old Soviet union. Third, you keep mentioning the imperialist Israel. Perhaps google is broken, because it failed to show results for a search “Israel empire” or similar. Lastly, it’s a matter of perception, if I’m at a bar and 1 Israeli enters, I don’t feel threatened. If 10, or 100, or 5000 enter, same, I don’t mind. If 1 Russian enters, I’m in a state of alert. If 10 enter, I will be ready to force them out. This is how the world regards Russians today, because of the abuse that occurred in the past. Bottom line, Israel is similar to Ukraine and hamas is similar to Russia, not the other way around. Good luck explaining how you feel sorry about Ukrainians in the future after this crybaby post about how the world let’s Israel DEFEND ITSELF and not let Russia INVADE OTHER INDEPENDENT COUNTRIES.
The difference is. Israel could at least in theory rehabilitate itself through the democratic process. Ruzzia has lost that possibility so cannot be considered in the same way. And BTW it was the Russian people who allowed their democratic rights to be shredded in broad daylight.. Let that be a lesson to others not to allow their democracies to slip into a similar totalitarian purgatory. I’m looking at you Hungary.
Russian national idea was based for a long time on WW2 and “we are the winners against n—sm” which could give people a feeling that “we can do no wrong”. Israel’s national idea was based around “we were the victims of n–sm” and this could give them the same idea that they “could do no wrong”. When a person or a group start believing that they can do no wrong, they commit the worst crimes
10:10 It’s not that people don’t have values or need to stick to their side, it’s just that the media picks sides and has insane control over people’s opinions on things. It’s very easy to manipulate people when you intentionally remove context and present the views of one side only – you should be especially aware of that. People’s opinions get shaped and molded by the media they watch
I sat though this whole article. It was painful. It’s discouraging to see young people so ignorant of history. Even before we get to history, Russia invaded neighbors. Isreal was invaded by a neighbors and is acting in self defense. Then we get to history. There were no Arab nations or a Jewish nation prior to Mandated Palestine. There were Arab tribes and Jews that had always lived in, what was before the Romans renamed the area Palestine, Judea. Jews began returning to their homeland in the late 19th century, PURCHASING land (land was not given to them). When the Arabs didn’t like Jews moving back, the UN divided the territory. Arabs got nearly all the land and Jews got a sliver. Jews did not expel Arabs from their new state. Arab nations expelled Jews from theirs. Isreal took in Jewish refugees and made them citizens. Arab nations will not take in Arab refugees as citizens. Jews do not insist on a Right to Return, even though they had to leave everything behind, but because Arab nations won’t take in their brothers and sisters, they insist on Right of Return in Isreal, which would make the population of Isreal more Arab than Jew, which would change the nation because it’s a democracy and Arabs have the same rights, including the right to vote. If Palestinians dropped their arms, there would be peace. If Isreal dropped their arms, there would be no more Jews.
Ayo he spitting! As someone who is descended from Ukrainian’s who fled genocide I am profoundly disgusted by the double standard of west towards the conflicts of the global south and of the marginalized and colonized. As a Ukrainian Canadian I am ashamed at my country for not protecting the rights of Syrians, Palestinians, Ethiopians, Lebanese, Somali, Afghani etc… It’s gross at a time where we should be standing with all marginalized people. Allowing migrants fleeing from other nations into the west and not just from Ukraine or Israel
Israel was attacked by Gaza. Gaza elected Hamas. Hamas is responsible for the attack thus Gaza is Hamas. Hamas leaders have said they won’t quit fighting until Israel doesn’t exist. Gaza could surrender, give the hostages back and apologize for the attack but don’t see any of that happening. My suggestion is let them fight it out or it will likely happen down the road.
05:48 “Your average Westerner” does not exist in the Israel-Palestine discussion (or many others). Opinions are spread all across the board, and many, many people in Western countries support Palestine. And not just in private. There are journalists, newspapers, individual politicians, entire political parties, community groups, organizations, who openly support Palestine. I must say I felt you were off the mark on that one.
Romanian here. I dont understand why people criticize Roman for this article since all he does is ask some questions. You could try to answer it or not.Simple. In my personal opinion both Israel and the palestinians are pawns in a big geopolitical game that is played in the Middle east. Even if Israel is hated it is also needed as a scapegoat. For example if the economy of an arab state like Syria,Irak,Iran or Egypt has problems, its leaders will never blame themselves for incompetence but they will blame israel. Also the same arab states that say that are pro palestinian, will never help the palestinians. Nowadays with Iran having more influence in Irak,Yemen,Syria and with hamas, I doubt that Jordan,Egypt and saudi Arabia are pro palestinian anymore since they see palestinians today as iranian puppets. As for Russia, sadly for the russians, you are no longer relevant anymore. China is relevant today. Russia should have taken the example of China and improve its economy, infrastructure and made itself atractive for huge foreign investment. Also China made itself indispensable in making all type of cheap products( toys, mobile phones etc). We are all flooded by ”Made in China” products. On the other hand we are not flooded by “Made in Russia” products. And all of this is Putin fault. With the exception of Moscow and Petersburg, the rest of Russia is frozen in time in the year 1990. (by the way its a good setting for time travel movies). The only thing that Russia did is selling oil and gas and enriching Putin and its oligharchs.
Hey Roman. I’m following your website for couple of years since i saw a article of bald with you in russia. I am an Iranian living in Europ for more than 5 years . Iranians citizens have problems opening bank accounts in western world, no matter if they are students, long term residents, or Even Citizens, the reason is to control the money laundry websites between the state and its agents in the west. there is no access to world banking systems. the whole ‘sanction’ thing has been proved to be just harsh to ordinary people and the people which are in seek of power still have access to their resources. about your article, the ground base rule is, my boold is more red than your blood unfortunatly.
To be fair… As an American I’ve never heard an American say Russia was in the “wrong” during the Chechen wars. Even amongst those I know who are knowledgeable in history dont say that. Most of us to view it as a legitimate albeit bloody and awful conflict. But Russia had the right to act against those conducting terrorist operations against them. They also had the right to defend their sovereignty. So in the same vein many believe Israel has the right to stop Hamas. And it will probably be bloody and awful. The average American also doesn’t view Israel as an occupier. Many think the muslims of the area blew it. The Palestinians had their state. And every muslim country surrounding them invaded Israel. So they lost it for them themselves. Is that the right way to view it? Maybe not. Its a very simplistic way to view the issue. But thats why the nation views the two completely different. One is viewed as defense… the other is a “unprovoked” attack on a neighboring country who wanted nothing but to pursue its own foreign policy and make their own friends. Again I’m not saying its the correct view. Only offering a reason why the two situations are viewed completely differently by a large portion of the United States. I actually agree that by punishing Russia as a whole we’ve actually strengthened Putins regime. The dumbest was not allowing Russians to travel. You would think the West would want every Russian male who doesnt want to fight to be able to travel… but Im just a lowly peasant.
Were Israel imperialists when they gave a piece of land that’s bigger than the whole of Israel today (the Sinai peninsula) to Egypt? They did it for peace and it worked. Ask Egypt why they won’t take the Palestinians as refugees. When has Israel ever invaded and occupied another sovereign land? For Russia, there are too many examples to count.
I’m really glad to see you say this, because seemingly almost no other reasonable person will. I’ve been deeply saddened and disillusioned by my country’s (USA) continuing to provide arms and support to Israel as it commits more and more brutal war crimes (I would have expected that from a fascist like trump, but even the Democrats are largely on board), but I hadn’t thought of it in relation to Russia’s war in Ukraine. The hypocrisy is shameful. Calling out imperialism and what is essentially borderline genocide is not antisemitic, nor is it in any way supporting Hamas (obviously).
Everyone here who thinks that Palestinians invaded Israel, just ask yourself this question. How do you make a thriving nation and its people disappear to make room for an entirely new nation? Surely it’s done by holding flower bouquets and peacefully telling the original inhabitants to disappear right? What happened during the years leading up to 1948 and how did Palestine and its people magically disappear? And no, Palestine was not a barren desert during that time. It was a thriving nation with it’s own culture, history and currency.
All I can say as a “Westerner” is that all we want is peace and freedom, and will do what can be done – preferably peacefully without harm of any kind – and we hold regret for any time that our governments haven’t and don’t act in a good way. Nobody’s innocent but governments have picked their side and are scared to backdown. People understand that the general polulations of Russia etc. just want normal lives without any of this shit. Just hope we can all get past this one day.
I’ll give my two cents here as an Israeli. There is no “Genocide” in gaza, it is incorrect and completely unreasonable to blame Israel of being blatantly bloodthirsty. You gonna take into account that Hamas has this tendency to use their own civilians as a shield, which creates unnintentional gazan civilian casualities. And another thing, a majority of Palestinians in the west bank are Pro-Hamas. Since many people are uneducated on Israel politics, they should know that the Israeli citizens do condemn and protest againt bibi for being a corrupted dictatorship. And in my opinion, the whole thing of withdrawing of all companies from Russia just so Russian citizens suffer too as if It’s their fault is too wrong and blatant Russophobia, just because someone lives in Russia does not mean they are responsible for the war that the Goverment initiated and It’s unfair that they should be black-listed for simply living in Russia. For the Russian-Ukrainina war, it would have been went better for Russia if they simply finished the war fast rather than dragging it out for such an extremely long time, they only made themselves look bad on the world stage.
Haven’t left comments on YouTube since the start of the Ukrainian war but now I think it’s about a right time to do so. As a russian passport-holder (unfortunately) and half-russian ethnically, I have to disagree with you on the point that we can compare Israel’s actions in Gaza to russian’s in Ukraine. Both cases are a huge tragedy and I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings – but the difference is that there ACTUALLY was a fact of military/terroristic aggression from Palestine towards Israel. 8th of October if I remember correctly (if we’re not taking an amount of conflicts in the past into a consideration either). Can we justify bombing 8k+ people by this? NO. But at least, the provocation actually took place (as well as hundreds of Israel’s civilian deaths on that day). Again: I’m not justifying what Israel is doing by saying that. But we have a fact of both-sides aggression in this case. But if we’ll take russian-Ukrainian situation, there was NO a single attack from Ukraine towards russia. Like, never in a modern history. There’s literally no point how we can justify russian aggression towards Ukraine. So.. yeah, I think that’s probably the case why we got such a different attitude towards russians and Israels. Both situations are f*cked regardless, and I wish all of it ends asap. Piece to peaceful people🕊️
I agree with you, Roman. We live in a fucking hell. Innocent people are dying and we should stand against wars. There are no victors in wars only loses, innocent blood is spilled while great leaders sit in their chair, counting money, making stupid decisons, drawing borders over other countries. Im sick of this world. Im from Croatia and my county was in Yugoslav wars during 1991-1995 and it was disgusting bloodshed, no winners in that war (some Croats may hate me because I said this but comon look at our stupid goverment) I would say, some politicians got millions from stealing people’s propety in that wars, and they are still stealing money from its people to this day. Dying in war is like dying for some rich-man ideology who doesnt even care about you. I hope that both of this wars will end soon amd that Roman and other people that are far away from home can return back to their homes again ❤
As an American who’s staunchly against blaming average Israelis, Arabs, Jews, and Muslims for what is happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza, I am happy to see that a lot of the world and a lot of fellow Americans can see that what the Israeli government is doing to civilians in Gaza is wrong since I wouldn’t have imagined this type of reaction back with the bombings on the Strip a few years back. That being said, I also think that western countries taking such measures against average Russians to undermine Putin and the Kremlin was a pretty stupid way to cut into their resources cuz all it does is hurt civilians and not the people with their hands on the levers of power. Also just want to say, thank you for being super based again, Roman. Peace and love, brother
Israel offered to the palastinian people a two-state solution 5 times, they rejected it. In 2005 the Israeli government forcibly removed the 8,600 residents of Gush Katif from their homes, which these days this place is Gaza, And what the palastinian did? Did they build a new country with thriving economy, society and medical care? No. They choose to take that money for terror attackes(which every terrorist gets money for every attack they do) Yes,I don’t believe any side should suffer, but Israel keep suffering. Don’t let the media fool you.
These companies are not leaving because the war crimes commited in that conflict are done by both sides and the whole situation is very gray, meanwhile russia ukraine war is black and white, russia was the one who attacked, russia is the one commiting war crimes and not as any retaliation for terrorist attacks but purely for more power
I agree with you. I find it hard to support Israel knowing their history, and the fact that israel has a fascist goverment. (This coming from a friend of mine who lives in Israel), and when politicians cut off electricity and water in Palestine and calling them sub humans and throwing innocent palestinians out of caves. Yeah I find it hard to support Israel in this case. And as you menioned Let’s face it Hammas is pretty shitt too but so is The Israeli Goverment. That is my view. I want it to be clear that like Roman I don’t consider myself an anti Semite in any way. I find it sad that innocent Jews suffer of Anti Semitism because of something a goverment that they has nothing to do with suffer the consequenses. Especially for jews who hasn’t even lived or been to Israel, or even support Israel. And same with innocenr Palestinians who now suffer the consequenses because of Hammas action.
Maybe review the order of events. Russia invaded Ukraine and started slaughtering civilian population. Israel has been invaded, suffered a number of casualties, and then started killing fairly indiscriminantly… These two scenarios are NOT the same and at some point, people are responsible, for what happens from in/from thier nations. Stuff that happens in actual retaliation is justified, as hard it is to swallow.
Actually, that dictatorship vs. democracy argument makes a lot of sense. The people of Israel are responsible for their goverment to a higher extend than Russian people cuz. Israel is more of a democracy. However, as mentioned correctly, Irael’s war is more comparable with the Chenian war than with the war in UA, and there were not heavy sanctions on Russia after the Chenian war. Down to the point: I always argue, I am against the “special military operation”, I am not against Russia as a country or Russian people. Russian people who dont want to fight in UA should absolutely be granted asylum in Europe — though that right on asylum should be nullified if they engange in any kind of criminal activity beyond a traffic offense or petty theaft, but that should be applied equaly to any asylum seeker.
Nothing wrong with a little criticism. As a westerner I am not angry at you. But I am a bit surprised that you would compare Israel with Russia. I know you’re an intelligent person so you must know how different those two situations are. Calling “Hamas” an animal is most definitely not the same as Russia constantly dehumanizing Ukrainian citizens. And the history of Russia vs Israel are extremely different. I agree that we need to call out anything we feel is morally wrong no matter who it is and the Israeli government does deserve some serious criticism in the way they choose to deal with the other people from that area. I just hope that you can see the big differences between those two governments you are comparing. All in all I admire you for speaking up about what you believe in regardless of how popular or unpopular it may be. I might disagree with some of your opinions but you are a decent human being and I have great respect for that!
Unfortunately in our world being morally consistent is one of the most sure ways of getting cancelled while people who actually deserve to get cancelled enjoy all of their power and luxury… If you say something nuanced on issue A they will call you X and if you say something nuanced on issue B they will call you Y because people cannot think beyond simple statements like “X is good but Y is bad” Thank you Roman for being what the word based should actually mean, that is standing for what you believe in even (or especially) when it makes other people hate you
I agree with you, I have been critical of Israel for years for the way they have treated the Palestinians. No, not anti-semitic, just because you criticize Israel does not make you and anti-semitic, although they like to try and make it so in order to avoid valid criticism of Israel and its treatment of Palestinians.
I think you make a lot of good points and raise some good questions about the problem of collective responsibility. That said, I think the comparison breaks down in two ways. Firstly, the civilian areas that are routinely hit all across Ukraine are not as problematically intertwined with military targets, as they are in Gaza. International law requires that civilians not be hit, but where the other army uses those civilian areas to operate the international rules require only a warning (which still seems inadequate, but thats what the rule is). Thus Russia’s targeting in the first few weeks of the ‘SMO’ is less defendably according to international law. The 2nd reason it breaks down is also because western nations have also criticized Israel and urged care. Yes, the UN votes go the way they go, but that’s different from what they are pushing for. See Blinken’s comments. There is a lot of back and forth that arguably was not present in the Russian sphere of allies.
beside the fact, that the whole israel-palestine situation is way to complex to put in any comparison you ofc are still right. the real problem is that world diplomacy is interesting if its actual relevant to a country. Russia brought the war to europe and beside the violence and death we also deal with the economic fallout (im german) while in reality the situation in the middle east doesnt really concerns us. Its a double standart cause whatever happens in ukraine will shape our collective future for atleast a generation to come, while from the middle east nothing will change, like nothing changed in the last 50 years.
It seems you clearly have no clue about Zionism nor about the currant conflict. You’re not radical with your opinion, from what I assume you’re a reasonable person, nevertheless, you’re fed with lot of misinformation. I just think that people around the world are in a rush to judge every conflict that happens in the world, even though they’re not related to it in any way. When citizens get caught in the range of fire intentionally by Hamas, is Israel is to blame? Or the fact that Hamas uses highly populated areas to launch their attacks gives them immunity (not even considering that Hamas brought the war on intention)? Or is it just a trend to condemn Israel, as any other political view in the west that comes and goes as a trend? I don’t remember anyone talking so much about Syria nor Yemen, countries where about a MILLION people where KILLED, though not by Jews as retaliation for a terror attack, but by other ARABS in the name of god. That’s some hypocrisy by itself, don’t you think?
Let’s look at the history. Russia historically was an invader, which invaded many countries. First was Russian Empire, it collapsed and Soviet Union, the communist Russian Empire started soon. After it collapsed too in 1991, Russia immediately invaded Georgia in 1992. After that they have bombed our territories several times. Then we started rapid development and Russia got crazy about it. They have invaded Georgia in 2008 too and as in 1992, they occupied more territories and declared them as “independent countries” (which are recognized by 5 countries and those 5 recognized it mostly because they needed money and Russia paid for it). Then came Ukraine in 2014 and later in 2022. Now look at the history of Israel. First of all, jewish people lived there for a long time and when they were kicked out, arabs took over. After that it was a British territory and it was going to be divided in half for both people. Jews agreed but Arabs declined it. Then they have started a war and lost many territories. Okay, let’s move to the modern day. Hamas started bombing Jewish territories and that was the reason of Israel starting a war against Gaza sector. Why did Russia started the war in Ukraine? Because of literally nothing but Russian imperialism. Russia claims that it started war because they “didn’t want NATO bases near its borders” and the second reason is that jewish president of Ukraine, Volodimer Zelensky is a nazi. The first reason is literally poking nose into a sovereign country’s politics, and the second reason is pure lie.
For the most part here in the U.S. if you say ANYTHING critical of Israel or zionism, or ANYTHING remotely supportive of the Palestinian people you’re going to be shouted down and quickly labeled as an anti-Semite or Nazi, or you’ll be called a supporter of terrorism for your actual support of the Palestinian people and basic human rights. This is a BASIC tenet of American politics and has been for decades. It’s also been getting more extreme in recent years, along with most other things. The right wing fundamentalists in America have long held extremist views on the Palestine issue, lots of it rooted in a fundamentalist interpretation of Christianity that looks at Jews as God’s “chosen people” who therefore can do no wrong. Of course the huge Israeli political lobby in the U.S. supports these fundamentalist interpretations because it cloaks the Zionist cause in the robes of God himself and come on… What political cause wouldn’t want that? Then it goes even further into biblical prophecy, where the right wing fundamentalists do things like support the rebuilding of Solomon’s temple on the Temple Mount and other acts that will fulfill the apocalyptic prophecies and bring about the second coming of Jesus Christ and Armageddon and all that madness. Why? Because of that happens they and all their families past and present will float up into the sky and hang out with Jesus on golden streets in eternal paradise. That’s got a whole lot more to do with this WHOLE thing from the American point of view than ANYONE who’s not American would believe.
I think you really captured how most rational people feel. There is a lot of hypocrisy out there and things aren’t so black and white. I’ve noticed even the US govt who usually always 100% supports Israel is kinda walking back the support from what they are doing. Thanks for saying what we are all feeling.
This complex issue can’t be encapsulated in a few lines or minutes. For the moment, how about these points: Does Israel have a right to wage war against Hamas? Would Israel be killing children if Hamas weapons weren’t stationed in residential areas? How do you come to terms with an adversary whose stated aim isn’t a negotiated settlement but to kill you? How do you deal with an enemy that venerates every death of their own as a holy martyrdom and every killing of a Jew not as a murder but as a virtue?
I want to thank you for your statement.I’m living in Western Europe and i agree to your point of view according to double standards.Politicians and media try to form a perspective according to their political agenda. This is horrifying because populations could not trust their political leaders but they will pay or are already paying the price for their leaders actions.
All of them, Putin, Xi, Kim, Netanjahu, and all other little guys with complexes and certain IQ issues, shall go to hell. Why can’t we all be ruled by smart people and live in peace and understanding. I honestly don’t understand why it’s so difficult to achieve. Go to London. They have all nationalities of people there. No issues with that. Why are there issues everywhere else.
I believe it’s important to be able to disagree and yet still remain in dialogue. Your perspective is important and well articulated. I do think there are a few false equivalencies between Israel (a small country in the middle east) and Russia (1.7 times the size of the USA, super power, and with ability to destroy the world). Still, that is not to say that there are not double standards.
💯 this. As of today there’s been 26-27000 Palestinian deaths in less than a year, in the other hand ~18000 Ukrainian civilians injured/killed. But somehow the US has vetoed a cease-fire yet AGAIN. How can the US on one hand completely (and rightly) condemn Russia for its unprovoked aggression (like all things, there’s shades of grey in here), but when one of our largest military-industrial partners does it, we not only stay silent, we actively support the same kinds of acts we on the other hand vehemently decry Russia for. Have consistency, or have none at all… especially if we claim to be the “moral center of the modern world”. But as I’m sure everyone has already guessed, we have zero strategic reason to support russia, even though we tried to (poorly) integrate them into the modern Western world after the wall fell, whereas Israel buys our weapons and sells us theirs… so we can then continue to punish our historic enemies wherever they lay. To think that most Americans either prescribe to this hypocrisy, or at least are ambivalent, is in my opinion even worse then just saying “yes, we will back Israel because they are our historical allies militarily and are needed for middle eastern stability in OUR favor”. None of the sides are correct; US, Russian, Israeli, Hamas… all any of them have done is bring the world that much closer to a hair-trigger response that leads to WWIII. The ONLY good thing (even though it is an ABSOLUTE tragedy), is that Navalny is dead, and there has NEVER been more support against unchecked Russian aggression, despite his sometimes unsavory opinions on world affairs.
That civilians are being killed in Gaza is obviously bad but honestly what is Israel supposed to do? If they just stop they look weak and if Hamas sees it as a victory the next attack is only a matter of time . In my opinion, Israel unfortunately has no other choice but to fight (if anyone has another solution I would love to hear it), and are therefore not even remotely comparable to Russia, which started the war in Ukraine itself.
I don’t agree with all that you said but I have so much respect for you using your platform like this and a lot of the things you said. So many people with an audience are scared to make this comparison BUT IT’S TRUE. And I hate that you had to clarify about the nazi thing because it says so much about where western media and far-right internet culture is at right now but it was the responsible thing to do. Good on you Roman.
You went too far, there is nothing to compare. I will give you three answers. But in advance I say the third answer is more important. 1. We didn’t wake up one morning and decide to de-Nazify our neighbors because they got closer to NATO. We are in a war that we did not start. And in fact this is a proxy war with Iran, not a great friend of NATO countries. 2. Unlike Russia, we are not a gas station with an army. Exports, especially our technological exports, are critical to the world. And now we also supply some of the gas to Europe that previously came from Russia. 3. The world is on the brink of another world war. NATO armies are partly based on Israeli technology. Mainly in coastal defense and air defense, but not only. * Bonus answer, a very large number of Israelis are eligible or have European citizenship. I will soon receive a Hungarian passport, my wife has a German one. So that such sanctions were very problematic to implement.
Thanks for such an insightful article. I appreciate your take and it is very similar to my own. The hypocrisy is unbearable and unending. Thankfully, most regular citizens have seen the atrocities perpetuated by Israel thanks to social media (just like they did with Russia) and they are heavily leaning towards backing a ceasefire. There are many protests around NA.
Why are people comparing two wars that are nothing alike? How is Israel being an “imperialist”? Do you know how many times Israel gave up land? Even Egypt occupied Gaza until 67. Any land Israel gained after being attacked and winning, it gave back, and some rejected the offer(West Bank is a good example). Palestine and other Arab countries are the ones that continue to reject the deal because they will not recognize Israel. Palestine was given 80% in 37-9 and rejected it. What Russia did to Chechnya was illegal, and prevented a country gaining its independence. Russia invaded Ukraine based on lies.
You’re saying what a lot of us are feeling but struggle to articulate. You hit the nail on the head brother. On a more personal note, I know it’s easy to sucked in to all the infuriating bullshit in the world, and just walk around fuming inside. But seriously, take time to unplug for a while and go for a walk regularly or just focus on yourself, if it’ll help you decompress. I have to do the same thing or else I’m in a constant state of disgust. It really takes a toll on mental health, and I see that happening to you. There’s no shame in it, but please put yourself first if it gets to be too much making articles about this shit. The real one’s will understand and support you in it.
Even if you’re cancelled I’ll still watch. Also good job on being fair and criticising both sides. Many seem unable to do this. On another point, I’ve noticed something about the Israeli government. Now, I’m not pro-hamas or anything, I take no sides as I don’t know a lot about the history, but I noticed when the Israeli government are called out on excessive bombings or war crime type stuff, they don’t address the point and instead deflect and use whataboutism. I recall perusal a press conference clip where one of the Israeli representatives basically said “but what about what hamas did, you talk about war crimes, they did a war crime, look over there!!!!”. Like, no, stop deflecting. Yes, hamas committed a terror attack, but that doesn’t give you free reign to commit your own war crimes. Answer the questions. On the other side, hamas are criminals and scum for committing a terror attack, sparking a heating up of tensions and conflict, then hiding amongst civilians, thereby weaponizing them as part of the war. Finally, you make a great point about treatment of Russia vs Israel, but I think the difference is Israel doesn’t have intentions to take over half of Europe. Also since the cold war Russia has been the west’s adversary so we already have a negative stance towards the state and see it as worse than Israel. It does seem like a double standard still though. On the front of companies not leaving Israel, it’s simply because there aren’t sanctions or social pressures to do so.
Whether you believe it or not, there are massive differences here in both 1) the perception of need (necessity) – the recent Hamas attacks revealing a very real perceived threat and 2) the appropriateness of the methods used (proportionality) – many people simply don’t believe the accusations against Israeli when it comes to targeting, and genuinely believe it is acting in as restrained a manner as possible to focus on very real security threats. Perception becomes reality when it comes to sanctions, and various Palestinian groups have a long history of staging fake atrocities and blaming Israeli actions.
Roman, you are entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts. Ukraine did not attack the Russian Federation before Russia attacked Ukraine. But Hamas murdered 3,000 Israelis and kidnapped hundreds more before Israel attacked Hamas in Gaza. Ukranians do not use their own civilians including women and children as human shields. But Hamas does do this. A recent poll in Gaza showed that, even with all the death and destruction in Gaza, 70% of those polled still approve of Hamas’ attrocities against the Jews. Among the 40% of those who don’t approve of attrocities against Jewish civilians, many Gazans deny the attrocities ever happened. But on one point, Jews and Arabs in the land agree. They agree that they cannot live side-by-side in peace. It has taken Israelies nearly three generations to come around to the Arabs’ way of thinking on this point, but noe, finally, they get it. The only quedtion remaining to be resolved is who stays and who leaves.
Thank You for your opinion and comments. I always look forward to your content. We should absolutely separate the people of a country from the government of a country. Though Russia is an authoritarian dictatorship you were able to walk away with your life, having the ability to start again. The way I see this Israeli -Hamas situation or any fundamental Islamic State is that only the men have a say in anything. 18 years ago Israel pulled completely out of the Gaza Strip. Hamas was voted in as the ruling government party. Since then the government of the Gaza Strip, Hamas, has poured much of its funding into offense not defense. As Women and children are not allowed to leave the home without permission from, and in many cases the supervisor of a man, making it hard to evaluate civilians. Even though Israel has provided a way Out for anyone prior to this horrible war. Women and children are not allowed to leave their homes as per the men/government/culture, it is not allowed. Hamas knowingly and willingly holds as Human Shields the Women and Children of their population to hide behind after making strike after strike into Israel over the past 18 years. My heart breaks for everyone affected by any war anywhere. This unrest between Israel and Hamas must come to an end. Not just for this attack but for every attack that will happen in the future. Hamas continues to willingly put their Women and Children at risk and then wants the world to make Israel stop!!!!! So Hamas can regroup for the next attack.
Roman, you are comparing apples to oranges – i mean both conflicts. Ukraine did not attack Russia by any means. Besides, for seven years the war has been raging in Ukraine and the west did almost nothing. On the other hand, Israel was provoked, brutally attacked. Fact is – the answer was disproportionate and civil casualties are mounting but I cannot help but think you are mostly concerned about your own problems.
Thanks for your nuanced article on this topic, Roman: I agree with your take on the issue, so you aren’t alone. (When you live in countries like the US, if you criticize the government of Israel, you are painted as antisemitic, in an attempt to stifle debate: It’s as if nuance isn’t wanted or even allowed…)
As an American, I’m frustrated with the double standard that our country has stood for when it comes to Israel. While I agree that our country should support Israel, we have done so in such a way that we have effectively condoned all of the horrible things that the Israeli government has done to the Palestinians. The modern state of Israel is effectively an apartheid state and the US government has not done nearly enough to call out the Israeli government on their mistreatment of Palestinians. If our country actually had the balls to that, then maybe terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah wouldn’t exist, let alone there being large scale war crimes taking place. For all I know there very well could have finally been true peace between Israel and Palestine. But here we are with this mess.
Interesting article. I do agree what Israel is doing now and have been doing for the past decades to the Palestinians is disgusting. However, I always wonder what the solution has to be? It is true that it was unfair that the land was given to the Israelies and that the Palestinians had to give up their land. However, we cannot deny that many Jews and Israelies are living in Israël so giving the land back to the Palestinians is not a solution either. Ideally they would share the land, but I am unsure if this will work. I also want to emphasize that I hate that there are two camps that downplay the actions of their own camp. Pro-Palestinians downplay the actions of Hamas which clearly constitute to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Pro-Israëlis on the other hand they downplay the decades of mistreatement, human rights abuses against the Palestinians. I think it would be better if both sides recognizes this because there is no justification for killing innocent civilians (wether they are born in Israël or Palestina).
Thank you for speaking the truth we are all humans before belonging to nations or ideologies, I was also shocked seeing Ukrainians standing up with Israel while plenty of innocent Ukrainians endured almost the same oppression as Palestinians can’t u feel empathy anymore?, as Roman said in the article you’re not alone the west is definitely a double standard hypocrite and there is no longer a good side of history, at this point i want peace and to protect humanity
this is exactly what i’m thinking about.. I’m as Russian (not living in Russia who never voted for Putin) facing problems – bank cards, visas ect. i lost job because of cancel culture. i’m tired of this bloody “collective responsibility” of all double standards of all this nonsence. thank you for this article.
I just want to say that i don’t really agree with the title you’ve chosen because it makes it seem like the Russian-Ukranian conflict and war is the same as Israeli-palestinian conflict and war. These issues are not the same and have a lot of differences, so I believe this title is not really the correct way to put it…
I’m very late to this, I realise that, but there’s an aftermath that I’d like to highlight now. What he’s saying about Israelis being treated “fairly” compared to Russians is not always true. I’ve been following the H3 podcast for a while now, and well, the backlash they’ve got for just being Israeli (Hila) or somewhat connected with Israel (Ethan) is insane. Apparently, they were never allowed to voice their feelings on the 7/10 attack on Israel because that just meant, to people, that they automatically agreed with the Israel government’s treatment of Palestinian people. The general public is simply missing nuances. Being Russian or Israeli never never makes one individual automatically right or wrong about everything they say or do
