Is A Visa Required For Americans To Work In India?

The process for obtaining an employment visa in India is complex and may vary depending on the specific requirements and procedures. For US citizens with job offers, a work visa is required, which can be obtained through a sponsorship certificate, application, interview, or other necessary documents. Non-citizens also need a work visa or work permit in India.

For US citizens, a valid passport, Indian visa, or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card are required to enter and exit India for any purpose. Most westerners are required to get an e-TV (tourist visa) to enter India, while an employment visa is required. To apply for one, foreign nationals entering India must possess a valid international travel document in the form of a volunteer or work visa.

India has two types of visas issued by the country to foreigners for work-related visits. A US citizen can work in India, but they must first obtain a work visa. The exact type depends on the nature of their intended activities in the country.

For US citizens, a valid passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond intended stay and have at least two blank visa pages. Travelers must enter with a visa in their passport, valid for 10 years. E-tourist visas, which vary, can be used instead.

Employment visas may be issued from the country of origin or the country of domicile (except India) of the foreigner provided the period of permanent residence is not more than 180 days. If a US citizen or other foreign citizen has an OCI document, they do not need a visa.

To obtain an India travel visa, applicants must provide a valid passport, photographs, visa application form, original company letter, and additional information form.

  • So….let me get this right. You go to a country as a student & want to remain in the country forever. The government of the country that you’re not a citizen of makes policy changes inline with the demands of the people of the country & you go out to protest ? The sense of entitlement is mind blowing.

  • Where have all the domestic Canadians gone? Were they abducted by Aliens? Somehow got freeze dried? Doing hard time? Or all of the above? Seriously, I only see East Indian origin people wherever I go or visit stores. It is like a Twilight Zone or Outer Limits TV episode, “Where have all the domestic Canadians gone?” Just eerie. How are domestic Canadians making a living? I never see them out in the open anymore.

  • Thank you! I’m a Canadian and i havent been able to find a job since 2022. I confirm my citizenship with agencies for low level jobs, things like cleaning even and no one calls me. Help Canadians first. The rest should go back home and find work there. Most are spending 20-30k just to come here. I have never seen that sum of money in my life.

  • Great. Canada finally woke up after the UK. I am really thankful to the Canadian government for taking this initiative. I am sure it will deter the migrant traffickers. Thank you Canada. I am Tamil refugee victim by the LTTE people smugglers backed by the Indian External Intelligence RAW. Recently I am facing murder threats from unknown criminals in Jamaica. I believe that they were launched by the Indian RAW operatives in Jamaica. I reported everything to the UNHRC and sought the Chinese government help to save our Tamil people in Sri Lanka from Indian invasion. The Chinese War ships docked in Colombo near the Indian missile destroyer following my desperate call to protect our people from Indian RAW murderers. Now India is in panic and it’s security advisor Ajit Doval was running behind Colombo to sign security pacts with Sri Lanka. I am really happy to see that the Justice found its course towards victory with International support.

  • The truth they are not here for studies but for work…i dont even understand how they passed the English language assessment because some of them dont speak english properly. Its really hard time to communicate with them. When you go to the mall, fast food and wallmart you will notice 90% percent of them are from India . A friend and workmate of mine are complaining that their kids are having a hard time to find a job..

  • Canada needs to immediately tax them an additional 40% from the paychecks of all temporary non permanent foreign workers and international students who are currently working in Canada. Taxing the people who are non Canadian residents wirking in Canada with a much higher tax rate than is taxed on Canadian Citizens is a solution for Canada to make money to support rising numbers of unemployed Canadian born citizens.

  • What happened here, Wealth transferred from you to the Visa agent in the India, LMIA business owner gained wealth from you for providing a work permit, You worked hard at minimum wage jobs, who gained employer got a minimum worker, gov’t got Taxes, In the end of the day, India or Canada, you lost your wealth, in false hopes and dreams. Wealth lost to the system, now it’s not coming back. You were the product from top to bottom, now useless.

  • ✍️🤔🤔 Not sure why ppl aren’t talking about this but the area I live in! The Walmart, Wendy’s, Subways, Popeyes heck! Every fast food chain in my area “ONLY” hire Ppl from India. It’s actually very weird to see this. I’m starting to wonder if there’s some type of signed agreement between Canada and Foreign countries🤔? Maybe Canada and all the rest of these countries agreed to something deeper we don’t know about. There’s know way Globally this is an issue. Immigrants taking all the work, homes, loans etc. and it’s ok? It’s deeper than we think. It’s like Canada, US, Europe etc have been threatened to allow these things to happen. Not being negative but maybe the issue can’t be cleared up unless God steps in, other than that all these countries are now “In too deep” who knows what will happen if they say “We want out now”! “We sending everybody back home now”! I believe it then will be chaos 😭😔😩😩

  • India MUST stop issuing & repeal all OCI & stop giving citizenship back after 5 years which is the most mis-used thing. Indian Govt should strictly regulate & if needed ban agencies sending students abroad (especially, western bloc) under false narratives. Those who still wish to move out should be made to sign documents stating that they will not opt for citizenship of residing country. if not their citizenship should be permanently repealed through a new law structure. 2:04

  • More than the immigrants, the government is at fault. Their policy is at fault. I have votes Liberal for the first Trudeau government. I was not happy with the first Trudeau government. So I voted Conservative the next two times. I am not sure Conservatives would fix Canada. Conservatives are in power in Ontario. What have the Conservatives done for Ontario?

  • I know that some Iranian students are fraudulently obtaining visas to study in Canada. Despite not having sufficient funds in Iranian banks, they manage to secure degrees by paying money to certain banks, even when their accounts are empty. Lawyers may provide them with language test questions in advance, allowing them to pass without any real language skills. As a result, they are admitted to Canadian universities, even for master’s and doctoral programs. Additionally, some students arrive in Canada with children but without a spouse to increase their chances of getting a visa, and they rely on Canadian government assistance. After some time, their families also seek to immigrate, and they often depend on government aid. I agree with sending them back after they finish school because I’ve heard that many professors are Iranian and pass them through courses without proper study. They also work for cash, hiding their earnings from the Canadian government while continuing to receive government aid. They are bringing their problematic system into the Canadian education system, which could have serious negative consequences if it continues
