To use a countdown bezel, one simply turns it until the desired time period aligns with the minute hand. For example, in order to measure 10 remaining minutes, one would turn the bezel until the ‘10′ index aligns with the watch’s minute hand, wherever it happens to be. If it’s pointing to, say, 32 minutes, the bezel would thus show the”0″pip at 42 minutes, indicating that 10 minutes have passed.

This type of bezel incorporates a 24-hour scale that’s used in conjunction with a 24-hour hand on the watch dial; generally bidirectional, it allows the user to quickly and easily track the time in a second time zone, effectively turning a single watch into two. The Rolex GMT-Master, with its blue and red color scheme, features perhaps the best example of this type of bezel — though the system has since been adopted by myriad other brands and models.

A GMT bezel features indices 1-24, often with the top half of the bezel in one color and the bottom in a second in order to differentiate day and night hours. (The split occurs at indices 6 and 18.) Using this bezel is slightly more complicated than using a count-up or countdown, but not by a long shot. How long does a regatta take?

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A REGATTA?. Regattas take a long time and you will most likely be there all day. Keep in mind that while a race is anywhere from 6 to 20 minutes, you will only see about 1 minute of the race in front of you! In cooler months, bring more layers than you think you need – you will be sitting there for a long time and it is easy to get cold. Check the weather and bring rain gear, if needed. Are races ever canceled due to inclement weather?. Yes, but it is highly unusual. Generally, a regatta will proceed unless and until the officials determine that it is unsafe. Sometimes a decision will be made that it is not safe for middle school ornovice rowers, but is okay for more experienced rowers. We have all been at regattas in the rain and the cold – so remember, bring clothes appropriate to the weather and bring more layers than you think you will need.

How do I know if my ROWERis going to compete in the regatta?. First, not all teams, and not all boats within teams, go to all regattas. Some regattas are for everyone, and some are by selection or qualification only. This is indicated on the schedule. Second, only a certain number of boats will be entered in regattas.
