How To Read A Cruiser Yacht Serial?

The Hull Identification Number (HIN), also known as the boat serial number, is a unique 12-digit number that uniquely identifies a boat. It serves as the boat’s unique identifier, similar to a VIN or vehicle serial number of a car. The first three characters are the boat manufacturer, followed by the next five characters: 18656, the boat’s serial number, and the Manufacturers Identification Code (e.g., Sea Ray, Meridian). The last four digits are the certification date for the boat, not the date of manufacture. The middle four digits are the Mfg.S hull serial number.

To determine whether a boat hull identification number is valid, break it up into three main parts: the boat manufacturer, the next digits are the boat serial number, and the two-digit HIN. The first three characters represent the boat manufacturer, while the next five characters are the boat serial number. The manufacturer’s identification code is the first three digits, followed by the manufacturers’ identification code.

To decode a boat’s HIN, follow these steps:

1. Look up and decode Cruisers VINs Hull ID Numbers to get information on a boat you want to buy. Sample HINs and company contact information can be found in this video.

In summary, the HIN is a 12-digit serial number that uniquely identifies a boat, similar to a VIN on a motor vehicle registration. It is typically used during the build date and certification date. If the boat does not have a transom, the HIN must be displayed on the right side at the rear of the hull.

  • Working on a alpha one Gen. 1. That I am currently going down the rabbit hole of LS, swapping. Need to know? The measurement Of the transome Plate Mount. Gen. One, Gen 2. And Bravo. Trying to figure out a bellhousing that will clear a 14 inch. Fly wheel… I have a 04, LS, 4.8 Stand alone computer on the way, I Just need to know the difference of the different platform.

  • Do you have alpha maintenance articles? Curious because I’ve heard there are zerk grease fittings that could be greased at intervals and I’d love to learn more about my alpha one gen 2 now confirmed thanks to your article. Is it normal when going into gear forward or reverse to have some clicking sounds until fully in gear?

  • Can you explain if Alpha 1 Gen 2 drives from differing serial number ranges are interchangeable? For example, I have a 2007 that needs a whole drive assembly due to an accident, including the gimbal mount and bell housing. I know the gear ratios are different but are the housings the same? Could I use an older gen 2 and install the correct gears?
