I have not heard of the Coleman Outfitter before. The reviews here give 41kg for the Odyssey (17ft5in) and 38kg for the Journey (15ft6in). Most manufacturers would make their ‘Outfitter’ more robust than their standard model, so if Coleman have followed that pattern, the Outfitter could be 40kg; if it’s just a name, I’d expect it to be a bit less than the Journey, maybe 36kg?

How to repair a small hole in a plastic kayak?
- Heat up the area around the hole with the plastic welder, this makes the plastic more malleable and able to bond to new plastic more easily. Move the welder over the hole and around the edges softening the plastic without fully melting.
- Melt then scoop a small amount of plastic off the spare plastic disc
- Run the plastic welder over the gouge allowing the new melted plastic to melt into place filling the gap.
- Repeat step 3 until the gouge is fully filled in, you may have to go back to heat the surrounding area several times as you work.
- Use the welder to smooth over your work, paying careful attention to the edges, if they are lifting, melt it back down and make sure you have a good bond.
Do not try using any sort of silicone in the crack before or after welding, any outside material will bubble up through the plastic as you melt new plastic in place and create a messy sticky unbonded patch.
And that is all there is to it, so if you are as accident prone as our Field Staff apparently is, you know you are covered, and your kayak investment will live to adventure on!
What is the best repair for polyethylene?
Our favourite is Loctite Super Glue All Plastics. This specialty super glue is designed for plastics, including the hard-to-bond-to polypropylene and polyethylene. It comes with an activator which you apply first and need to allow to dry for 60 seconds. This allows the adhesive to bond in seconds and dries transparent for close to invisible repairs!
If it’s an epoxy you’re after, Loctite Epoxy Plastic Bonder will do the trick. This formula bonds to most common plastics, including polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Delrin, and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). It hardens to a rigid, high-strength bond in about 20 minutes and is resistant to most solvents. It makes quick work of most repairs.

Aluminum is similarly indestructible but often lighter than plastic. Both materials are heavy compared to modern composite boats that come in at a fraction of the weight. Colemans are therefore heavier than most other canoes of similar lengths, with 15-foot canoes weighing more than 80 pounds.
Coleman canoe weight capacity. The weight capacity of a Coleman canoe depends on the canoe’s dimensions, and some canoe manufacturers caution against strictly looking at the capacity numbers. Instead, consider the water conditions, weight distribution and overall feeling of the canoe when determining if it is overloaded or not.
You want to pack the canoe in a manner that keeps the weight as low as possible, rather than stacking gear high in thecenter.
