How To Dress For A Cruise Men?

Cruises are typically casual getaways during the day, with men typically wearing beige chinos, dark pants, or jeans, with a polo-style shirt. Casual lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean allow men to wear button-down, long-sleeve shirts, khakis, nice shoes, and no tie. Classic khakis are perfect for smart casual evenings on a cruise, especially worn in main dining rooms and restaurants. A minimum of three long-sleeve shirts are recommended for a 7-day cruise, with women wearing dress or comparable clothes.

For casual sea days, tank tops and t-shirts are suitable, but if possible, opt for flowy tops. Smart shirts can be dressed down with jeans or up with trousers, and short-sleeved shirts are fine in warmer weather. Smart casual attire for men on a cruise ship might include dress chinos or tailored trousers, a crisp button-down shirt, or ribbed hem polo shirt.

In summary, men on a cruise should pack and dress appropriately for various activities, including swimming, gym, and casual evenings. Dress shoes, dress socks, and a belt are essential for a comfortable and stylish cruise experience.

What is the dress code for men on cruise ships?

At dinner, particularly in the main and specialty restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and theater, most cruise lines prefer a dressier look for men, requesting passengers refrain from wearing shorts, sleeveless T-shirts, flip-flops, and baseball caps. Interestingly, many do not publish specific requirements for women, although it can be assumed the same attire for women is also discouraged. A good rule of thumb for cruisers is to always pack at least one pair of long pants that are not jeans, for dinners onboard.

As far as dress prohibitions, cruise lines tend to follow policies similar to airlines, disallowing guests from wearing clothing bearing messages that are distasteful or patently offensive.

Formal nights. Most cruise lines will host formal nights at least once on a weeklong voyage. In the past, this would have meant black tie, but today the expectations are generally more relaxed. Many cruise lines have even stopped using the word “formal” to describe these evenings because of the implication of formalwear—nowadays, that’s almost never the case.

Is it OK to wear jeans on a cruise?

Casual. To most of us Brits, casual means one thing and one thing only– jeans! The good news is that denim in the form of jeans, jackets, shorts and skirts is generally a perfectly acceptable daytime casual cruise look, often combined with a T-shirt but check before you go for lunch – those designer jeans may cut it for a promenade on deck but some lines don’t allow jeans in their restaurants, however expensive they might have been!

Fitness freaks can feel free to lounge around in lycra during the day, and of course, no cruise suitcase is packed until it contains at least two swimsuits and cover-ups. Bear in mind swimwear and flip flops are almost always a big no-no at mealtimes unless you’re having a relaxed poolside snack.

Casual can be harder to get right for an evening look as it’s all about looking as if you haven’t tried too hard, but in general, the rule is to ditch the denim and t-shirts in favour of casual shirts and trousers/smart shorts for men and laid back skirts, sundresses and ‘dressy’ tops for ladies.

Are condoms allowed on cruise ships?

6. Toiletries, Make-Up, Etc. While you shouldn’t plan on buying these items on the ship as they are heavily marked up, know that you don’t need to panic if you forget toothpaste. Bonus Perk: “Etc.” includes condoms (even on Azamara).

Suitcase space is a valuable commodity, so why waste it on items you can get on the ship? Here a few things you can remove when your bags refuse to close:

For such tiny people, babies need a mind-blowing amount of stuff. Even though most lines will rent out cribs and high chairs to parents, parents could be on the hook for bringing diapers, formula, and strollers. Add all of this up, and your baby could require more than five times his or her body weight in luggage. Thankfully, the more baby-friendly cruise lines have most of these items available for preorder and will be waiting for you in your stateroom when you board. It can be a tad pricey, but it’s worth not spending your vacation with an injured rotator cuff.

Do you need a dinner suit on a cruise?

Formal dress code. Formal nights on an Ambassador cruise are a wonderful chance to get glammed up and feel extra special for a night of celebration. Formal wear should be adopted on Ambassador planned ‘formal nights’ or gala nights as they are sometimes called. Depending on the length of your cruise, you can expect a couple of formal nights, and clothing is usually cocktail dresses for the ladies and dinner jackets or formal suits for the gentlemen. If you have booked to dine at the chef’s table, this is another great opportunity to get dressed up in your finery.

Please note: Jeans, t-shirts, shorts and open-neck shirts are not permitted in the main restaurant on Formal or Gala evenings.

Lynne Cantle was a guest on a recent Ambassador cruise and loved the formal evenings, explaining a little more in this statement: “I love the chance to dress up on a formal night. It gives me a chance to wear clothes I very rarely wear otherwise. I don’t do full ballgowns, just long dresses dressed up with jewellery. My husband loves to wear a dinner suit or white tuxedo in theCaribbean. There are alternatives for people who don’t want to dress up, and it absolutely has no impact on my enjoyment of what other people choose to wear. Lots of ladies wear black trousers and sparkly tops on formal nights, which are good, especially on long cruises to mix and match. One tip for the evening is that I’m a cold person and like to have a shawl/pashmina to put around my shoulders.”

How many outfits for a 7 day cruise?

Here’s what to pack for a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean. No matter where you sail to, clothing is going to take up the bulk of your suitcase. You should average two outfits per day, as you’ll wear one during the day and one at night for dinner.

I find that I like to re-wear at least two or three outfits at night to save space. Plus, I just don’t like having to plan seven different outfits for each night. This, however, is a personal preference.

In the Caribbean, daytime wear is equivalent to what you’d wear to the beach or when partaking in an active activity at home. On some days, a bathing suit and cover-up might be sufficient, especially if you’re going on an excursion and spending all day on the beach or by the ship’s pool while at sea.

On other days, you might opt for an excursion with a specific dress code. You cannot, for instance, go zip-lining through Jamaica wearing flip-flops and swim trunks.

How to look good on a cruise for men?

Formal nights on most lines don’t mean black tie. On casual lines, such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean, men can get away with a button-down, long-sleeve shirt, khakis, nice shoes and no tie. On more upscale lines, guys should pack a suit or at least a sports coat and slacks. Ties are usually optional.

When in doubt, pack a jacket you can always take off if no one else is wearing one.

Some cruise lines, however, skew a bit fancier. Cunard features black-tie galas on its sailings that are often themed (think Roaring ’20s and Masquerade Ball). P&O Cruises typically has signature black-tie evenings, and many smaller luxury lines (including Silversea, Seabourn and Regent) will host black-tie evenings throughout extended sailings.
