How To Cruise For Guys?

The park in Shutterstock is a popular destination for gay cruising, offering ample space for exploration and connecting with potential partners. For first-timers, there are numerous options available for gay cruises, including companies like GayNudeSail, which offers clothing-optional cruises with a clothing-optional atmosphere. Some popular destinations include Greece and Croatia.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it is essential to trust your instincts, stay anonymous, know your emergency exit in case of turbulence, and be aware of the potential for sexual encounters. Men who surreptitiously search for other men in hopes of a sexual encounter should take condoms and lube, wear suitable clothing, leave valuables at home, and get to know the area clearly.

When cruising for gay sex, it is important to be in the know, stay alert, and keep your eyes open. Men use signals like foot tapping when cruising for gay sex in public, such as sitting down next to the guy you’re interested in and lightly touching him on his thigh or arm. If he responds positively, they may be able to connect with them.

In summary, cruising is a popular way for gay men to meet potential partners in public, with various companies offering options for those looking to explore the gay community. It is crucial to be aware of safety precautions, trust instincts, and be prepared to engage in sexual activities.

Does cottaging still happen?

While it is generally accepted that cottaging, cruising, and dogging take place less often now than in their heyday before gay rights were mainstream, it still exists if you know where to look.

Anonymous, vaguely public sex between men has probably been part and parcel of the city’s fabric since it was called Londinium. Historian Rictor Norton traces it back to at least the 1600s in his book Mother Clap’s Molly House.

We use numerous terms to refer to it— it can be cottaging, cruising, or dogging. The first two differ mainly in locale—be it a public lavatory or public lands. Cottaging and cruising refer to actively seeking sexual encounters, whereas dogging is the voyeuristic seeking out of public sex as a spectator.

While, strictly speaking, this activity is not illegal, “it is often considered taboo, and there are few dedicated spaces for cruising”, Anup Kayastha, owner of 5LetterWords.org, told The Roost. “Instead, practitioners often rely on ambiguous locations that can be difficult to identify”. Indeed, the Human Rights Act’s article 8 has been interpreted to enshrine the right to engage in sex outdoors. In the UK, the potential illegality comes into play when others witness the goings on and there is sufficient evidence to prove in court that a third party saw—or that there was a high likelihood of them seeing—the public sex.

Is it safe to go cruising?

Are cruise ships safe?. Let’s cut right to the chase: Yes, cruise ships are generally safe as long as you use common sense and remember that vessels are not impervious to accidents, illness or people who just don’t know how to behave. As with any place you might live or visit ashore, there are risks, but those risks can be mitigated if you keep a few simple tenets top of mind.

The key thing to recognize is that you should maintain the same level of awareness, self-control and vigilance as you would anywhere else. When you’re in your hometown, would you invite a complete stranger into your bedroom, leave your wallet unattended in plain sight or allow your very young child to run around unsupervised? If the answer is no, you shouldn’t be doing those things on a cruise ship, either. (And if the answer is yes, I have questions.)

Although you have power over the above, sometimes circumstances are beyond your control. Perhaps the weather is bad, or something mechanical goes wrong with the vessel. Cruise ships are equipped with advanced navigational equipment to avoid storms, and engine room contingencies allow onboard operations to continue, even if the ship’s speed or propulsion is affected.

Is cruising illegal in the UK?

Cruising is not illegal; however, any act that may follow successful cruising may be outlawed depending on where it takes place – having sex in a public lavatory, for example.

Closely linked to cottaging is the act of voyeurism. This is a criminal offence under SOA 2003. It means to deliberately observe a private act such as sex (this may involve in the case of cottaging, for example, the use of a hole in a toilet cubicle wall) for one’s own sexual gratification without the consent of the participating parties.

It is also an offence for the voyeur to record the private act, operate equipment with the intention of enabling another person to observe it, or to install equipment, or construct or adapt a structure or part of a structure, with the intention of enabling himself or another person to watch it. This offence is punishable with up to two years in prison and/or a fine.

Are you a rule follower or do you like to cross the line when it suits you? Some travelers are good at doing what they’re told, while others see vacation as the time to live it up how they see fit, regardless of any official policies. On a cruise ship, rules are plentiful – spanning from what you can bring on board to how and where you can enjoy yourself. Some rules will feel constraining, and you’ll be tempted to break them.

Please don’t. Most cruise ship rules were created with your health and safety in mind. Flouting them could put you and your shipmates in danger or ruin your cruise with steep fines and possibly a forced debarkation.

If you’re tempted to be a little naughty, first familiarize yourself with the ramifications of your actions. Here are 15 cruise ship rules you shouldn’t break — and what might happen if you do.

How do you know if a guy is cruising?

Once you have found an area you would like to visit and arrived there, what do you need to do? You will often spot other people walking around on their own, maybe looking at their phones, or just slowly looking about. It is unlikely that someone will just walk up to you and announce what they are there for, so it is important to keep a look out for signals, such as eye contact, a nod of the head, or something along those lines. If this happens, it generally means that they are interested and you can approach them.

Making sure you are safe at all times is of the utmost importance. Due to the types of areas you are visiting, it is very unlikely that there will be CCTV in operation, or even lighting. It is advisable to keep all your personal items, such as mobile phones, wallets, and keys, well hidden on your person at all times, or leave them at home if you can. You may not want to tell people that you are going to meet somebody for sex, but it is advisable to tell someone that you are going out and check back in with them when you are home, so that they know you are safe.

People can often be worried that if they go cruising, the police will be patrolling. This isn’t the case. The police would only tend to visit cruising grounds if someone has reported an annoyance complaint, or if there had been reports of an attack or offence there. The police DO NOT have the right to stop and search you just for being at a cruising ground, unless they have reason to believe you have or are about to commit a crime.

For starters, you only have to unpack once, even as you travel from place to place. You also don’t have to go hunting for a restaurant every night. There usually are a bunch just steps away from your cabin with tables waiting for you. You’ll also have no trouble finding entertainment.

But even in its simplicity, cruising still can be daunting for a first-timer. What should you bring? What should you plan on doing in ports? What is the best way to book?

What does cruising mean on Grindr?

Cruising for sex or cruising is walking or driving about a locality, called a cruising ground, in search of a sex partner, usually of the anonymous, casual, one-time variety. The term is also used when technology is used to find casual sex, such as using an Internet site or a telephone service.

According to historian and author Tim Blanning, the term cruising originates from the Dutch equivalent kruisen.

In a specifically sexual context, the term “cruising” originally emerged as an argot “code word” in gay slang, by which those “in the know” would understand the speaker’s unstated sexual intent, whereas most heterosexuals, on hearing the same word in the same context, would normally misread the speaker’s intended meaning in the word’s more common nonsexual sense. This served (and in some contexts, still serves) as a protective sociolinguistic mechanism for gay men to recognize each other, and avoid being recognized by those who may wish to do them harm in broader societies noted for their homophobia.

Debbie Green

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • Dressing up and/or at least to impress even just a little is one of my favorite parts of cruising since it gives me an excuse to do something I don’t do enough of or to really make the whole trip feel like an event worth dressing up for. Plus in my experience, I do notice sometimes that looking extra presentable in general can often get some special attention in regards to service or perks and just being treated with more care especially when paired up with genuine kindness and appreciation. So i know it’s not everyone’s vibe to do so but i like how it can contribute to the aesthetics and environment of the ship and crowd.

  • This article is filling a huge gap on this platform. Before I went on my first cruise this month, I spent a lot of time searching “what to wear on a cruise,” but 99% of the results were tips for women, so thank you from men everywhere for this! One suggestion I would like to add is to bring a Navy blue blazer. It can be dressed up or down. It can be worn with a collared shirt or even a t-shirt. That’s what I brought to save space. P.S. Your article on cruise essentials was a game changer . There was no way I would have thought of the magnetic clips & hooks without your article. Thanks again for your informative articles!

  • This is great! As a guy it is easier to pack for a cruise, but playing dress up is fun! I usually go with a light pair of slacks, (Walmart Ben Hogan golf pants no wrinkle!) and a short sleeve Hawaiian or Guyabera button down shirt. Shoes that pack down small are great, canvas Lugz or Vans, driving mocs, huaraches, espadrilles, all work! Pro tip to avoid wrinkles: use tissue paper in between folds!

  • We will be on the Celebrity Eclipse on May 8th sailing from Honolulu to Vancouver. In cooler climates, I always travel with a Gore-Tex light weight parka (gloves and stocking cap). While we cruise mainly on Celebrity and Royal, I no longer bring a suit or sport coat. I just wear a nice long sleeve dress shirt. Over the past five years, cruising has really become more casual. Since it is so easy to forget a critical item (gym shoes, dress belt, dress shoes, bathing suit, pool sandals, prescriptions, etc), I developed a one-page packing list that includes all items that I want to be sure to pack. I use and update the list every time we travel for a cruise. Another tip that I have found very helpful is that about two weeks before you cruise start organizing and evaluating the items that you will be packing for your cruise. This allows you time to replace any items that are not up to your standard. For example, for our upcoming cruise, I replaced a black dress belt, two casual shirts, luggage straps, and had to request a refill on two critical prescriptions. Regarding critical prescriptions, be sure two take at least double the amount that you will need for the cruise. You never know when your trip may be extended for a variety of reasons. We always cary the extra medications in a different bag that is part of our carry-on luggage. When packing, we always mix our clothes in our two checked bags just in case a bag is late arriving or lost – at least you will have some of your and your partner’s clothes.

  • I just got back from a 10 day cruise. Royal Caribbean. I packed too many t-shirts, too many dress pants and dress long sleeve shirts. The exact right amount of socks, shorts and underwear. Figure for 1-2 formal nights, the rest is casual. I wore mostly nice pool type shirts for casual. I also only used 1 swim shorts, even know we snorkled twice and swam. I only wore a t-shirt one dinner. I wore a suit once. I did not need a coat, sweatshirt, or jacket the entire trip. Pack rain coats or a rain parka. It started to sprinkle in St. Maarten waiting to zipline, and we were the only people prepared. I suggest under packing t shirts. You will have ample opportunity in each port to buy new t shirts. Pack one hat, your favorite. Pack 2 pair of sunglasses. My wife’s broke on the 2nd day.

  • I have a navy ‘suit’ similar to your son and hubby, but it consists of my $15 navy blue greg norman pants from costco and my $50 navy blazer from JC Penney. And they look good together! But I rarely bring the blazer anywhere. I mostly wear khaki/olive/gray tracker pants from costco and collared shirts with either nice sneakers or maybe some lightweight driving loafers. And that’s about as formal as I get…

  • A very helpful article Illana. Lots of very good ideas. I pack a sweater vest for evening dining as sometimes the AC is cranking and need that little bit of a layer. The non surge power bar or one on an extension cord are must hsve items. Even the newer ships don’t have enough outlets in the room. Glad for that tip on another article for our last cruise . Happy cruising Illana and hsve a great weekend.

  • Thank you so very much for the list. I had a lot these already covered but I went back and checked off to make sure. And also a suggestion on the shoes, Hey Dude shoes are great for beach wear and some styles can be paired with khakis and a dress shirt. And I also bring along a small over the shoulder back for excursions for my wife and I’s papers, money, phones, and sunscreen it helps her feel a little safer knowing I have all of that in a secure spot.

  • On formal nights I wear a dress shirt and a tie, a nice pair of dress slacks and dress shoes, and a nice V-Neck sweater. I don’t do suits on cruises anymore. It’s so much easier to pack and much more comfortable. Btw, one night at the show in the ship’s theater I was horrified to see a guy wearing his pajama pants and bedroom slippers. Ridiculous

  • Ok so I watched hours of your articles. With that said, thank you sooooo much. Our room Attendant though we were well seasoned cruisers. When we told him it was our first ever cruise he was very surprised with all the stuff we had. I think we bought almost every one of your must haves. Made for such a well organized room and was just great. We have already booked two more cruises. :-). Thank you again.

  • When the crew stops wearing tux shirts and bow ties, and the officers don’t wear their dress whites, we won’t dress up for formal night. My husband does alternate between a tux shirt & bow tie, and a dress shirt and regular tie with his dark blue suit. So he’s not totally in a tux, and only bri gs one suit.

  • You forgot the most important thing about married couples and Packing for men…..ask the WIFE. You might not want to dress but, the wife wants to dress. Silly to see a women lookingvery chic but not their partner. Also remember gentlemen, a happy wife is a great life! wifes like to be corrdinated with there mate.
