The Scout Shop has compiled a list of five helpful tips to craft a winning sailboat for the Raingutter Regatta, a Cub Scout activity that involves building and racing miniature boats. The tips include using the official Raingutter Regatta racing kit, practicing blowing the sails, ensuring the boat doesn’t break the rules, using water-based paints, and having fun.
The Raingutter Regatta is a fun Cub Scout activity that involves building and racing miniature boats. The boat must be newly built for the current Cub Scouting year and substantially built by the Scout with parental supervision. The kit includes pool noodles, card stock, tape, and BBQ skewers. Scouts build over 30 minutes, using fans and practicing long, steady breaths.
To ensure the boat doesn’t break the rules, it is essential to avoid using water-based paints and to experiment with a tall, thin sail like a glider wing and blow across it to reach across the wind. By following these tips, parents and Cub Scouts can prepare for the fun-fueled boat racing event and ensure a successful outcome.
