The number of yacht owners in the world is difficult to determine, but it is estimated that there are around 10,000 luxury yachts over 79 feet in length globally. However, this number does not include smaller yachts and boats. There has been an increase in the demand for motor yachts over the last couple of years, with sales reaching a 13-year high. The ownership of superyachts is generally private, so the exact answer to who owns which superyacht is not always publicly available.
The US, Italy, Spain, France, and Greece were the top five countries with the most superyachts on their coastlines. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and the world’s richest man, has seen his personal wealth roughly double since 2017, thanks to his wallet ballooning last year as more people than ever turned to yachts.
In 2016, it was estimated that there were about 10,000 luxury yachts 79 feet in length in the world, with 20% of them being sailing yachts. At the bottom of the list of boaters are the Chinese, who own only 116,475 boats with a population of nearly 1,400,000,000 (1.4 billion).
The world’s largest superyacht database contains more than 12000 yachts with detailed information, specifications, images, and much more. Recent reports have estimated approximately 10,000 to 15,000 active yachts worldwide. Commercial large yachts may carry no more than 12 passengers, while private yachts are solely for the pleasure of the owner and guests do not carry the yacht.
