The yacht charter season is a highly anticipated time of year for boaters and luxury travelers alike. It can last from September to October and April to May in some countries. The summer season, popular in destinations like the Mediterranean, runs from late April to mid-September, while the winter season, favored by yacht owners, lasts around six months.
The duration of a yacht charter typically lasts one week, with 7 nights and eight days. Shorter charters are acceptable, but they incur a short charter penalty. To determine the cost, divide the weekly price by six and multiply by the number of nights you wish to charter. The average yacht charter is around one week, and many companies have minimum stays of at least five days.
On average, a week-long private yacht charter costs anywhere from 10,000 on luxurious sailing yachts and catamarans, and up to 150,000 for superyachts. Factors affecting charter yacht prices include the type of vessel, charter destination, and the length of stay on board. Most charter companies operate in week-long blocks, but the average is about ten days. A yacht broker can negotiate the length of your stay.
Both seasons last around six months. The summer season is a time for exploring the entire global luxury Yacht Charter Fleet (3000 yachts) and finding the best crewed superyachts megayachts to rent for your dream private yacht vacation. The average booking rate for renting a yachtboat in 2024 is 47.4% weeks per year (24 weeks), based on 4268 yachts from our offer.
The cost of renting a yacht for a week can vary depending on factors like the size and luxury level of the yacht, the duration of the charter, and the time of year. On average, chartering a yacht in Croatia can range from around 15,000 EUR per week for smaller vessels, while larger luxury yachts or megayachts can cost up to 150,000 EUR per week.

How long is a typical yacht charter?
What is the minimum length of charter and how are the rates calculated?. Charter rates are quoted per week for the hire of the yacht. Seven days is generally the minimum charter period accepted by yachts, but charters can be for any duration under or over seven days. Charters over seven days are calculated pro-rata against the weekly rate divided by seven and multiplied by the number of charter days. During low season periods and for a number of smaller yachts charters of less than seven days may be considered in which case the weekly rate is divided by six and multiplied by the number of days. Charters commence from noon onwards on the first day and terminate by noon on the last day. For example, a charter contracted to commence at noon on 1st June and terminate at noon on 8th June constitutes a one week charter. A day charter would normally start in the morning and end either late afternoon or early evening.High season rates apply to the most popular charter periods, i.e. July/August and Christmas/New Year, and are also normally applicable to all major events such as the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival. Low season rates apply to all other periods unless otherwise stipulated. Please note that charter rates quoted are believed to be correct but may be subject to change.

Are the guests on Below Deck real?
1. Guests pay for the charter. The charter guests you see on the show are genuine charter guests. They pay their own money to secure a space within the six weeks of filming time each season.
It can cost tens of thousands of dollars to charter any of the superyachts featured in the series. The rate is discounted (up to 50%) compared to the standard price of chartering these yachts outside of Below Deck filming.
Below Deck executive producer Courtland Cox previously told Bravo, the production company behind the show, that the charter guests are usually seasoned charterers rather than individuals looking to appear on TV. This means the show isn’t staged or rigged by producers in advance of filming.
2. Guests pay tips. Similar to the charter fee, guests also fund the tip that gets handed to the crew at the end of each charter. It’s customary for this to be around 15-20% of the full amount for a week-long charter on the yacht in question (not the discounted rate), though some guests choose to pay less.
What is the 10% rule for yachts?
I’m sure most of us have heard of the “10% rule”: a boat costs about 10% of the purchase price to maintain per year. It’s usually said in the context of used boats, and it rings true to me. There’s another rule thrown around which suggests “2% of the price when new” is the rule.
Why are yachts limited to 12 guests?
The design and equipment of most yachts are optimized for a maximum of 12 guests. This includes the availability of life jackets, lifeboats, and other essential safety gear. Exceeding this limit could risk the availability of these safety measures.
Maintaining this limit is also essential for both comfort and safety. The layout and design of yachts are intended to provide a comfortable and spacious environment for up to 12 guests. Overcrowding can lead to unsafe conditions, including difficulties in evacuation during emergencies.
Insurance and Liability. Insurance and liability considerations also play a significant role in the 12-guest limit. Insurance policies for yachts are often structured around this guest limitation. Carrying more than 12 guests can significantly increase insurance premiums, which will have an impact on the yacht chartering cost.
More guests mean a higher potential for accidents and injuries, increasing the yacht owner’s legal liability. By limiting the number of guests, yacht owners and charter companies can better manage these risks and ensure that they are providing a safe environment for all passengers.
Why is charter season only 6 weeks?
Though the drama of Below Deck is already pretty juicy, it seems things heat up even more when the production crew leaves. The show is filmed for only six weeks because of the high-cost of chartering the yacht. Unfortunately, crew have said the seven or eight week mark of working a charter is when yachties really let loose.
Guests get a discount. Being filmed while enjoying a sailing trip isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time, so the rich and famous have the cost of their charter slashed by 50 per cent. Their airfare is also covered.
That sounds like a good deal for us regular folk, but even with a discount the price is about US$150 to $200,000 a week. The guests are also asked to tip generously but there is no requirement for them to.
How far can a yacht sail in 1 day?
Sailing Yacht. A sailing yacht will take you anywhere you want to go. With a capable skipper, a seaworthy, well-maintained yacht and the right sailing conditions, you can see the whole world. A fully stocked, seaworthy 30-foot sailing yacht will sail about 100 nautical miles in a day, and she can continue up to 90 days without needing to stop. Given the right wind conditions, a sailing yacht in good shape can sail around the clock at a steady pace of about 5 knots per hour. A longer yacht with a larger hull will have a faster average speed and cover more distance than a smaller vessel.
Motorized Yacht. It gets more complicated with motorized yachts since they rely heavily on a fuel source. If your parameters are how far a motorized yacht can go on a single tank of gas, this depends on the size of the boat and the fuel tank.
The general rule is the bigger the vessel, the larger the fuel tank. For instance, a 75-foot motorized vessel that can carry 11,000 litres of fuel can travel about 1500 nautical miles, depending on conditions, whereas a 35-45 foot motorized yacht with a 100-litre tank can travel about 400 nautical miles.

Can you have 100 people on a yacht?
Mega yacht charters are the ultimate on-the-water luxury travel experience. We offer a range of exceptional mega yachts that can accommodate 20 to 30 guests and even a few rare gems which can take up to 100 guests. Our large capacity mega yacht charters are an unrivaled option if you’re looking for a luxurious, exclusive and comfortable way to celebrate a milestone birthday, family reunion or multi-generational escape at sea.
What do we mean by “large capacity?” Most super yacht charters only accommodate a maximum of 12 guests overnight regardless of their size. That is due to international maritime regulations which classify luxury mega yacht charters that carry more than 12 guests as passenger ships and passenger ships must adhere to a different set of regulations. Most super yacht charter owners prefer to operate under the simpler regulations and therefore limit the overnight guest capacity to 12.
Fortunately, we have a stellar fleet of stunning mega yacht charters that rival the size of a mini cruise ship yet have the intimacy and ten-star service that you expect on a yacht.

Does the rental include food and alcohol? How does fuel use work…is it like a rental car where you top it off when your done? 42 k might be doable for a group of people to afford. Heck we spent almost 25 k for 10 of us to goto Disney world for 6 days. Would you say it is a kid friendly experience? Or more for adults. Would be fun to scuba and fish as a family on a yacht.
I heard you say one of your stops was Fort Lauderdale, was that correct?? I am going to be there my 27th for my STCW basic training and PDSD blended course! I would love the chance to talk to you and learn what I need to take to get started working on a boat right away! I have been studying and perusal all of your articles and trying to learn as much as I can! Thank you for your time!
Just to put this in perspective of other high end luxury accommodations, this boat has 4 guest rooms so 47,500 / 4 rooms / seven days is $1696 a day, per room. For about that price I could stay at the Ritz Carlton Central Park in Manhattan in a King Suite with 2 bathrooms and a partial park view. Globally for high end hotels in premier cities, if you exclude ridiculous penthouses, a great room looks like it will cost you on average $400-800 US a night. One isn’t better than the other per se, but it’s interesting to look at comps.
you hardly showed what $47K a week gets you – how about showing all the rooms + bathrooms; what the meal service may look like other than a silly and uninformative close up of the table setting; all toys (aside from the one jet ski); # of staff etc – unless of course this is just an intro, then please label it so
