Totem Bight State Park is located approximately 2.5 miles from Ketchikan International Airport, making it a reasonable walking distance for individuals. The park is easily accessible by bus, with some bus drivers offering tours and information about the area. The Totem Pole Park is a short walk westward, approximately 20 minutes. The cruise ship terminal is also within walking distance, with a bus stop near a coffee shop in downtown Ketchikan.
Totem Bight State Historical Park is 10 miles north of Ketchikan, but there are two buses that take you up or a cab for about $10. The park is within easy walking distance from the cruise port and downtown Sitka, with a 15-20 minute walk. The Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary, a private reserve home to abundant animal life, is just eight miles from Ketchikan along a scenic coastal drive. Eagle Park is a 5-to-10 minute walk from your cruise ship. If you’re on a cruise ship docking in downtown Ketchikan, Eagle Park is a 5-to-10 minute walk.
To visit Ketchikan, ride a local bus to Saxman Native Village or Totem Bight, then self-guide to Creek St, Cape Fox Hotel, and Totem Heritage Center. Alaska specialists recommend visiting Ketchikan from 7am – 1pm, as it is one of the ports on their September sailing to Alaska. In 2012, they walked to Saxman Village from the dock, which was about a 60-minute walk (3 miles).
