How Can I Tell Whether The Trip I Took Was Made Up?

A Ford VIN is a unique identifier code that contains vital information about a car, including its manufacturer, year of production, and engine type. It is found on the door jamb label on the driver’s side front or rear door panel, labeled as “DATE”. If the label is missing, you can request a Build Date.

To determine the manufacture date of your Ford car and engine using the VIN number and engine number, look for a large sticker inside the door jam. The 2nd and 3rd numbers indicate the month of manufacture. If the product was manufactured 2014 or before, the serial number format will always be: 3 numbers + 4.

The build date of your Ford vehicle can be found on the door jamb label on the driver’s side front or rear door panel. The VIN plate behind the windshield on the driver’s side dashboard can be used to locate the VIN. The manufacture date of the car is defined by the last two letters in the VIN number. For example, an early chassis number like BBATRD13749 will have a manufacture date of 3 years + 4.

Ford Expedition vehicles come with a new trim called Excursion starting for the 2025 model, offering beefier options for more towing capacity. It is important to check all markings on the car when buying a used one, as discrepancies between the manufacturing date on some components and the vehicle certificate can lead to issues.

📹 Here’s why the Ford Excursion was the right truck at the wrong time

In this episode I provide the history of the Ford Excursion, considered the largest mass-produced SUV at the time. It was based on …

What year was the Ford Excursion made?

The Ford Excursion, introduced in 2000, was a new model in the Ford truck line, with no direct predecessor. It shares many body and chassis assemblies with its F-250 pickup truck counterpart, but differs in front suspension and rear suspension components. The Excursion has a distinct frame, making it taller and wider than its pickup truck counterpart. The rear axle for all Excurions was a Sterling 10. 5 axle, while four-wheel-drive models had an NV273 transfer case and Dana 50 front axle. Rear axle ratios of 3. 73:1 and 4. 30:1 were offered.

When did they stop making excursions?

The Excursion, a short-lived Ford vehicle, was replaced by a MAX version using the F-150 chassis in 2005. Despite its short existence, the Excursion gained a strong following, with some people scouring the used-car market for one and others spending a fortune to have a rebuilt one. Custom Autos, a tuning shop in Oklahoma, has been producing new Ford Excurions by combining the front and rear sections with the 2016 Ford Super Duty pickup chassis, producing around 40 units per year.

How to check manufacturing date by serial number?

The Serial Number Date Code Reference Chart provides date information for a given model, with the initial two characters representing the year and month of manufacture. The remaining serial number is a sequential production number, comprising seven digits prior to December 2007 (DM) and eight digits subsequent to this date.

How to check Ford manufacturing date?

Ford cars’ manufacturing dates are indicated by the 11th and 12th positions of the VIN, including the month of manufacture. Identifying the manufacturing date is crucial before buying a used car, as it can reveal potential defects not mentioned by the seller and increase confidence in the car’s selection. Ford is the only remaining American automaker to continue producing gasoline-powered muscle cars after 2024, with the 2024 Mustang featuring a new Dark Horse variant that outperforms its GT counterpart.

What was the last year of the 7.3 Excursion?

The Excursion boasts a powerful 7. 3-litre Navistar-built Power Stroke Diesel engine, which was last used in 2003. It was replaced by the higher-output but unreliable Power Stroke 6. 0 in mid-year to meet competition and smog standards. The 7. 3 turbo diesel V8 has 275 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque, making it a reliable choice for its class. Well-maintained, the 7. 3 can do half a million miles without blinking an eye, with the 7. 3 showing over 300K on the clock. The odo is the only place where these miles are evident.

How can I check manufacture date?

The initial three digits of the serial number indicate the date of manufacture. The first digit represents the year, while the second and third digits indicate the month.

Does the VIN number tell the manufacture date?

Every automobile is assigned a unique vehicle identification number (VIN), which serves to indicate the year and month of its manufacture. Nevertheless, the process of decoding it is not as simple as it may appear.

What is the year of manufacture?

The year of manufacture is defined as the calendar year in which a unit was produced. It should be noted that this may differ from the unit’s model year.

What’s the difference between an Excursion and an Expedition?

An excursion can be defined as a brief, leisurely journey that can be undertaken while on holiday.

Does VIN tell you build date?

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a crucial piece of information that identifies a car’s manufacturer, year, make, model, and trim level. It is used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts, and insurance coverage. The VIN was first used in the United States in 1954, as the U. S. government requested a standardized numbering system for vehicles. Previously, manufacturers used engine numbers to register and title vehicles, but this became problematic when the motor was replaced.

From 1954 to 1981, there was no universal standard for these numbers, leading to different formats used by auto and motorcycle manufacturers. In 1981, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standardized the format, requiring all on-road vehicles to have a 17-character VIN, which does not include the letters O, I, and Q to avoid confusion with numerals 0, 1, and 9.

Why are Ford excursions so expensive?

Ford’s Excursion model, produced for five years, saw less than 200, 000 vehicles on public roads. Many were exported to the Middle East, where they have a popular following. Despite being discontinued nearly 20 years ago, these trucks still command top dollar, especially in the post-COVID, post-DEF era, and with low mileage and well-maintained vehicles. The initial cost of purchasing a Ford Excursion is not the only factor in their high cost.

Maintaining these SUVs is also an expensive endeavor, as OPTIMA Jim found out when he attempted to bring his 2003 Ford Excursion on the 2011 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. Despite initial planning, various delays and unanticipated setbacks led to the truck’s eventual completion at the last minute.

  • Top of the line in utility sports, Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts! I remember in around 1992, my dad was talking to the guy who sold him his 1989 F150 he bought new and he said that Ford was coming out with a Suburban rivaling SUV based off the Bronco. Centurion Conversions was building basically those already along with crew cab half-tons, but it is interesting to think buyers would eventually shift to that very type of truck. The salesman was sort of right in his prediction or rumors. I never understood why Ford didn’t jump into the full-size 4 door SUV market sooner.

  • IT’S on my bucket list for 2024, I always love & admire these ( I am a Ford Fan Boy ) lol-I, love all American trucks, from the big three, I AM GETTING ME AN EXCURSION this year 2024- ( lol all things being equal ) love your article reviews, you do a magnificent job, they re entertaining & enjoyable, but insanely informative throughout-thanks for for website & sharing. Keep them coming. Michael J. looking forward to your next upload. Take care now.

  • The diesel engine Ford Excursion became a mainstay of fire departments all over North America for Command vehicles. When Ford discontinued the Excursion, they left fire departments in the lurch – much like their discontinuance of the Crown Vic earlier did to police departments. All fire and rescue apparatus runs on diesel fuel, and fire departments need command vehicles which run on diesel fuel too for safety and in order to avoid storing gasoline at fire stations. Fire departments were forced to adopt a workaround by switching to crew cab pickup trucks with caps over the cargo bed. While that sort of works, it is less than optimal compared to a diesel Excursion or a Diesel Suburban.
