❤ Alaska remains my favorite cruise. Year 2000 and we were on a Princess ship the forst week of July. The sum never sets, Don. It just hovers above the horizon. Sitka was charming and made me want to move to Alaska. There was a glacier we walked on after a long hike. It was massive. I wish I remember the name. My mom returned 10 years later and the glacier was mostly gone. Thats when she believed in climate change.
We just returned on JUNE 1, 2024, on the Enchanted Princess. We had a lovely time.On May 31, we 2 of our 4 group began feeling I’ll. On the 1st, we went to Urgent Care with no result. The next day, Urgent Care again was sent to the hospital.After CT, I was told I have multifocal pneumonia. The bloodwork showed the flu and Co I’d. The other 3 have been diagnosed with Covid. We spent many hours on the casino with way too much smoke circulating. We are guilty of looking for fun on the cruise. I believe the final responsibility is on Princess. Most land casinos no longer allow smoking as it carries diseases. You are a great voice in the cruising community. Please speak out to protect us cruisers.
Hi Don, Chris and Val from Melbourne, Australia. In response to your vlog about P&O Australia, we have booked a cruise 11th June, 2025 . We have received an e-mail from P&O Australia confirming our cruise will be unimpacted by the merge with Carnival. The ships will be renamed. “Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter will be taken out of service for 2 weeks in March 2025 to undergo technology and system upgrades, and when they return they will be rebranded and sail as part of the Carnival Cruise Line Fleet. Post -Intergration, the Carnival year round fleet in Australia will include Carnival Splendor, Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter, as well as Carnival Luminosa which will sail from Brisbane seasonally, all the ships will feature Carnivals popular Hub App onboard technology to enhance the cruise experience, and POA guests will be invited to participate in the Carnival Loyalty Programme, among other benefits. Don always princess and why Alaska Boring” snow, ice, cold, and fish, go on other ships there are so many wonderful ships out there you could have a great time on show people a variety of ships not always Princess you get all the perks and fame from those ships and you get to play your game again ! I would never go to Alaska when there are nice warm places to go!
Wish I could do Alaska again but can not for health reasons! Last went to Alaska back in 82 on the original Island Princess. It was an Alaska repositioning cruise from Vancouver – Ketchikan – Juneau – Skagway – Glacier Bay – Sitka – Vancouver – Seattle – San Francisco – Los Angeles. I was also booked on one out of San Francisco on the original Royal Princess in 86 after my Mediterranean Mid East cruise on that ship was cancelled (Achilles Laurro Incident) but I ended up having to cancel that as well. Never got another chance which I always regretted!
Iv done Alaska, it was nice, no regrets, really enjoyed the cruise, but I don’t feel it’s worth the hype, and it’s definitely NOT an itinerary I would repeat. We went during the mudnight sun and that was probably the best oart of the cruise. I live in British Columbia and I see all these things and MORE daily. The big difference being the culture and lifestyle, and I like them both equally but fir different reasons.
Glad for all to be leaving from Seattle and seeing Glacier Bay. Left from Vancouver in May this year and we ended up being sick from day 2 until after getting home. Never got off the ship in Alaska. I’ve been living in Europe for 25 years now. I spent the first 9 years living in Nürnberg and Heidelberg. I’ve been to Christmas markets large and small all over Germany and other European countries. I think the Christmas market in Nürnberg which is called the Christstkindlesmarkt is the best Christmas market in the world. The Christlindlesmarkt is one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world. The main part of the market is located in the main market square in the city, the Hauptmarkt which is in the middle of the Altstadt or Old City of Nürnberg which is a very beatiful and historic city with an almost 1,000 year history. In addition to the main market there is a special children’s Christmas market on a side street off of the market square. The Altstadt is surrounded by an ancient wall about 3 miles in diameter. Inside the walls ar emany beautiful old buildings, 2 large Gothic style churches, many museums, restaurants, and other attractions. The Altstadt is divided in half by a river wich flows from east to west. Many of the streets in the Altstadt are for pedestrians only which makes it very nice to walk around there. Because the Altstadt is relatively small it’s easy to go from one attraction to another on foot. On a large sandstone hill in the northwest corner of the Altstadt is an imposing castle dating back to the 12th century overlooking the city. The castle looks like it has organically grown out of the sandstone which it was built on and all of the buildings of th ecastle compound are made of sandstone blocks which were quarried locally.
I wish I could afford that trip. I’ve never cruised before. The money I would want to spend would need to be equal to the entire trip. I bet those places will be filled with awesome things to buy. I’ll be perusal regardless and cheering people on. I would love to see you all book the entire ship. It would be a great trip because we all agree “don’t touch the food, use the serving utensils” 😂.
I like this website, but I can be critical of the content. Don isn’t always the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. But, this is a good idea. River cruising is great, and intimate. A Christmas market one, just with Don’s group is a fantastic idea. If you have never done a market or river cruise…..this may be for you. BTW…..this isn’t a Caribbean cruise, take real winter clothes.
Most well known Christmas Markets are in Germany but they do occur in other countries as well. Many river cruises visit more than 1 country depending on where they start and end the cruise. The last time I visited a Christmas Market (in the mid 1980s), many of the booths sold Christmas ornaments ranging in price from inexpensive to very expensive. Also there were lots of baked goods and hot spiced wine. Many cities in Europe are known for their candy and gingerbread, especially at Christmas time.
Sounds great Don. We have previously been on two Christmas market river cruises both with Viking the first along the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel which would be our preferred route as the cruise scenery gets better day by day. The second along the Danube from Regensburg to Budapest both were awesome and with excursions included worked out a cost-effective way of travelling.
That sounds amazing and I have a friend I would want to take because I know she would love it, too, but I’m pretty sure it would be out of my price range as I would need to pay for both of us. 😢 I’ve looked at some river cruises in the past and they are so pricey. I think this would be so much fun! Especially if you are able to book the entire cruise ship. A Christmas Market river cruise is on my bucket list. Unfortunately, I already have a cruise booked for April 2026, and a smaller trip (land-based) for October. No way I can do it in 2026. 😢 If you consider doing this again for 2027 or even 2028, I’d sign up. Have a couple friends who’d also be interested (they’re on both trips I have in 2026).
I am so interested, if I can pull off the finances. (Last November the band Blue Rodeo did one of these market cruises. They raised the prices over and above what a regular cruise would be – because fans would get to hear their favourite Canadian band play in an intimate setting – or I would have gone.)
