Does Everyone On A Princess Cruise Get A Medallion?

Princess Cruises offers a Medallion, a free wearable device that replaces the traditional cruise ship key card. The Medallion is personalized with your name and sail date and makes for a great keepsake. The Princess Cruises app is currently available in English and Japanese. Every ship in the Princess Cruises fleet is MedallionClass, meaning you can use the Medallion on every ship.

As part of the MedallionClass™ service, guests can enjoy benefits like expedited boarding, the best Wi-Fi, and the ability to ship your Medallion® to home (for a fee or included with Princess Plus and Princess Premier). International guests can pick up their Medallion® at the port for free.

The Medallion is included in the price of your Ocean Medallion Class cruise. All U.S. guests receive their free Medallion device either in the mail before leaving home or when they arrive at the terminal. International guests can pick up their Medallion device at the port.

People are expected to have the Medallion on them at all times as it is one of the ways that the ships crew knows that everyone returned. The Medallion is free, and you don’t have to pay for it. Both the Medallion itself and the companion app are completely free.

The Medallion is currently only available on Medallion Class ships, which began with the Regal Princess in November 2017. The rest of the fleet is being expanded to include other cruise classes.

The main amenity that all Medallion-class ships have in common is the OceanMedallion itself a wearable casino chip-sized disc that enables an array of futuristic services. There are also thousands of sensors installed throughout the ships to interact with the Medallions.

Cruises wearing a Medallion (either as a necklace, bracelet or clip-on) can unlock their doors without touching anything, pay for purchases without reaching for a keycard, track their children wherever they are onboard, or order a snacks to be delivered anywhere on the ship.

But you right, that medallions with white backgrounds indicated that it was for the inaugural 1st year of a ship’s service.

IN November everyone was given a white one on the Discovery. We were told it was for the first year the ship was in service. (that would have been accurate for that cruise).

In April, on the Ruby – repositioning cruise from Galveston to San Francisco-, at the Captain’s Circle meeting, they mentioned that they white medallions are replacing the formerly Blue medallions.

I also heard that you can go to guest services and they would give you a sticker with the correct color.
