Can You Take Oxygen Tanks On A Cruise Ship?

Travelers who use supplemental oxygen are welcome aboard most cruise ships, but currently, there are no cruise lines that supply oxygen on-board for those who require it. However, wearable portable oxygen concentrators (POCs) allow passengers to cruise with their medical condition. All major cruise lines welcome oxygen concentrators on board, but oxygen tanks are no longer allowed.

To travel with oxygen on a cruise ship, passengers must ensure they have adequate supplies to last the entire trip. If using an oxygen tank, passengers must bring enough oxygen for the full trip, which can be unwieldy. Hand carrying oxygen is strictly prohibited, and packing oxygen cylinders and/or tanks in luggage is strictly prohibited. If dependent on oxygen or require oxygen therapy, passengers must supply their own oxygen and meet certain requirements prior to boarding the ship.

Oxygen tanks are generally accepted, but passengers must arrange for the delivery, set up, and return of the equipment. Lines have specific rules regarding oxygen tanks delivered by third-party suppliers, so guests should verify their rules ahead of time.

Guests must organize their own oxygen supplies, as there is only one company permitted to deliver and supply oxygen to their ships. Modern cruise ships have AC outlets, but plug adapters or the appropriate power cord should be carried.
