Kayaking to Shell Island, Florida is a great scenic adventure and one of Crystal River’s best primitive island camping spots. The park and island are divided by the channel used by boats to get to the Gulf, so heavy boating traffic and large swells can occur at times. However, kayaking on the outskirts is possible.
Silk at Shell Island is well-known for its clear emerald waters that are warm for most of the year. You can swim on either the Gulf or visit Shell Island during your trip to Panama City. Shell Island is a beautiful barrier island located just off the coast of St. Andrews State Park, adjacent to Rosemary Beach and 30A.
To reach Shell Island, you can take a shuttle to the Shell Island Jetty, which is known as the children’s pool due to its calm and shallow waters. Kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes are the best ways to explore Shell Key, as human-powered vessels are allowed throughout the entire aquatic preserve. A kayaking tour will allow you to see Shell Island from the best angle, taking you to the mangroves on the north side of Shell Island, where you can go beach.
Kayak rentals are available, and you can paddle along the shorelines of St. Andrews State Park, explore the Lower Grand Lagoon, and the beaches of Sandy Point. Kayaking in the shallow waters around the Shell Island Jetty is safe and easy, and exploring the island’s shallow inland shoreline on St. Andrews is also fun.
You can bring your own kayak to the park, launch it from the parking lot to the water, and there are many ways to launch it. Kayaking is an enjoyable way to burn calories while enjoying a solid upper body and ab workout. Guided kayak tours of the Shell Key Preserve are approximately 3 hours long and provide a great way to explore the coastal environment and spend time on Shell Island.
