Can I Take A Blow Dryer On A Cruise?

The article discusses the importance of bringing a hair dryer on a cruise ship, including its policies, onboard availability, and packing tips. It highlights that most passengers will not need to pack a hair dryer due to its size and potential for taking up too much luggage space. However, if your hair requires careful styling, you may want to consider bringing your own hairdryer.

Cruise ships usually have hair dryers in their cabins, either in the bathroom, mounted to the wall, or in a closet or vanity drawer. Some hair dryers may blow a fuse due to not being adapted for cruise outlets. Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, and shavers are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

If you are concerned about styling your hair, you can bring your blow-dryer from home. All Royal Caribbean cabins are equipped with a hair dryer, so in most cases, there is no need to pack your own. For most passengers, a hair dryer is necessary, but it may be necessary to pack a hairdryer if it blows the circuit or causes some rooms to be without electricity for a couple of hours. A standard hair dryer is provided in your stateroom, and a hot pad mat is provided in one of the drawers to protect the vanity desktop.

Can you put your Dyson in your carry-on?

Welcome to the Dyson Community, and congratulations on your new Dyson Airstrait™straightener!

There shouldn’t be any problem with you storing your straightener in either your cabin or hold luggage. You may want to double-check with your airline for peace of mind, but as it’s mains-powered and doesn’t include a battery, we wouldn’t expect there to be an issue here.

Depending on your travel destination, please keep in mind that your Dyson Airstrait™ straightener is engineered torun on the voltage of the country you purchased it in. It won’t work at different voltages, and we’d advise against using it with an adaptor – we can’t guarantee this won’t cause damage to your machine. You can find some more information on this here:

Hope this helps, but let us know if you have any other questions!

I prefer to bring my own hair dryer on cruises. But on the last cruise we took, on NCL’s Breakaway in 2015, I couldn’t use my hair dryer because it kept blowing the circuit breaker. I tried it twice and both times that happened, and then the cabin steward advised me to use the one in the cabin. Luckily it was a good one on that cruise.

Anyone have power issues on a Royal ship when using their own hairdryer? Mine is 1875 watts if that makes a difference. We are going on Anthem in April.

Yes, on one ship only. I think it was the Liberty. Every time I used my hair dryer, they would call to see if I was OK (other way to put “are you smoking in your cabin” since sensors were detecting smoke in my cabin…..the alarm NEVER rang in my cabin, but the call certainly came. They came down to check twice. Looked inside drawers, closets, bathroom cabinets ( I believe they were searching for any evidence of smoking).

Disney Cruise Line provides a list of prohibited items for you to peruse before your cruise and make sure that you feel comfortable with all of the items you are packing. It states that hairdryers must be below 450 watts to bring onboard. Since the Dyson Airwrap comes in much higher than that at 1300 watts, I made the choice not to bring mine. Some people have reported bringing it successfully onboard but it did not end up working because the outlets can not handle the power of this device. To be safe and make sure you have an excellent styling tool I would not recommend bringing this Dyson and would opt for a lower-powered device that works for your hair type. I ordered a SpinStyler and took it with me because it is much less expensive and works quickly for those quick turns between an adventurous port day and a nice dinner.
