Cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean (RCL) and Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL), have strict policies regarding the consumption of cannabis on board. While weed is legal in Washington State and Alaska, it is not allowed on cruise ships. Even if leaving from a state where weed is legal, cruise ship operators often follow U.S. Federal Regulations.
Smoking weed or bringing it on a cruise is a big no-no, and there are plenty of questions about cruising and marijuana. Cruise lines clearly state that cannabis in any form is not allowed on board, regardless of whether medical marijuana is allowed in Florida or if you have a marijuana medical card.
Cruise lines are required to follow U.S. federal law, which strictly prohibits possession and use of marijuana and other illegal substances. Therefore, marijuana, including marijuana for medical purposes, is not allowed on board. No cannabis products or paraphernalia are currently allowed on board cruise ships, including CBD products.
Weed is still illegal at the federal level in the U.S., including smoking or transporting it across state or between states. If cruising from the USA, cruise lines are bound by federal laws that prohibit marijuana possession, even if legal in the home port’s state.
Some cruise ports offer legal cannabis and even have dispensaries close to where ships dock. However, no marijuana is allowed on cruise ships, even if it is for medicinal purposes or legally obtained on board.
