The Dominican Republic is a popular destination for cruise travelers, offering a variety of departure ports and dates to choose from. However, due to new regulations, prices have not been adjusted for the country due to the violence in Haiti. Cruise travelers with sailings to any of the ports on Royal Caribbean ships are still visiting Labadee, the cruise company’s day-use property located on a peninsula more than six hours drive from Port-au-Prince. Carnival, the source of cruises in the Dominican Republic, has announced the readiness of the Port of Cabo Rojos first phase, featuring a 200-meter dock and a mooring knot.
Carnival Cruise Line, Princess, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises are some major cruise lines that sail to the Dominican Republic. They operate three wholly owned subsidiaries: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, making them the third-largest cruise operator in the world.
Cruise ship itineraries sailing out of the Dominican Republic include Carnival Cruise Line’s week of April 12 through the 21st to Amber Cove and Romania Dominican Republic. The cruise ship port calendar displays all scheduled arrival and departure dates in a timetable format.
Guests can enjoy an ATV Adventure tour through the undiscovered Dominican Republic backcountry, swim with dolphins and stingrays, and explore the shopping and dining opportunities at Amber Cove Cruise Center. As of July 1st, no cruise line has adjusted itineraries for the Dominican Republic due to new regulations.

Exercise increased caution in the Dominican Republic due to crime.
Country Summary:Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide, and sexual assault, is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic. The development of a professional tourist police corps, institution of a 911 system in many parts of the country, and a concentration of resources in resort areas means these tend to be better policed than urban areas like Santo Domingo. The wide availability of weapons, the use and trade of illicit drugs, and a weak criminal justice system contribute to the high level of criminality on the broader scale.
