Will Cruise Ships Go To Cuba?

Cuba cruises may soon resume due to the Biden administration’s eased restrictions on the country. Cruise ships owned by non-American companies have been traveling to Cuba for years, with the only current line being Marella Cruises, a UK-owned company. However, there are no US government regulations forbidding cruise ships from Americans from visiting Cuba. As of June 5, the Commerce Department prohibited cruise ships from departing the US on temporary sojourn to Cuba. Cruise ships and recreational and pleasure vessels are prohibited from departing the US on temporary sojourn to Cuba. Cruise ships can be compared by price, size, and amenities to find the best fit for your next cruise. As of 652019, cruises to Cuba are no longer available due to travel restrictions imposed by the United States. However, you can still visit Cuba with Land Tour operators. Cruising to Cuba takes place throughout the year, with the prime time being December through March when it is less humid.

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • RC “For all 2019 sailings on both Majesty of the Seas and Empress of the Seas, we have secured alternative ports and we are in the process of communicating the new itineraries to our guests and travel partners. For these guests, they will have the option of remaining on their sailing with the new itinerary and receiving a 50% refund or they may cancel their cruise and receive a full refund.”

  • We had a back to back booked for October. Carnival changed the Cuba leg to the same as our first leg. When I called they booked me on a different itinerary and allowed me to cancel both legs and apply all paid funds to my new cruise with no penalty on either leg. We also got the 50 per person obc as promised. I was very pleased with the outcome. I had expected a penalty on the non_Cuba booking. I totally agree Carnival has gone above and beyond my expectations. This was no fault of theirs and I agreed to terms where ports are not guaranteed. So I am very appreciative of how quickly they responded in putting out new itineraries and allowed changes!

  • I just got off of the Sensation. I’m extremely unpleased with Carnival. The June 3rd sailing had no option to change our cruise or itinerary, as we were notified the night before we were to arrive in Cuba. A $100 OBC does not even cover the premium price we paid to cruise to Cuba. It’s not even inline with the cost of a Mexican cruise. I’m hoping Carnival will offer those on the June 3rd sailing a 50% off the cruise we sailed.

  • I’ve seen people’s reactions online and I don’t know why some folks are mad at the cruiselines themselves. It’s not their fault. RC is actually doing a pretty good job considering and we’re staying on our cruise for half the price, just a different port. Plus with all these people rage-cancelling their trips without thinking things through, the buffet lines are gonna be a lot shorter and the pools less crowded at least 😅

  • I think regardless of how one feels about this decision, the cruise lines seem to be stepping up and trying to make things as right as they can considering they had no part in the decision. I’m sure it’s extremely frustrating for those who have already scheduled cruises. I would not be a happy camper.

  • MSC “Guests currently on board MSC Armonia and their travel agents have already been informed and will receive: \r \r $400 USD per stateroom as onboard credit. If this credit is not fully used during the cruise, MSC Cruises will refund the difference upon check-out from the ship. Any shore excursions in Havana that were pre-purchased before the cruise, or which are included in the ticket, will be automatically refunded to the Guest’s onboard account.\r Guests on future MSC Armonia sailings that was scheduled to visit Cuba will be offered:\r The possibility to change ship and itinerary. MSC Cruises will waive cancellation fees and transfer already paid funds to the new booking.”
