Why Is My Jet Ski Taking On Water?

Jet skis can sink due to various reasons, including missing or damaged drain plugs, damaged parts, improper towing on land and in the water, inappropriate use and collisions, and improper use and collisions. Some common reasons for jet skis to take on water include clogging of the jet propulsion system by seaweed, rope, rocks, or debris, and not taking care of the craft.

After-ride care on a jet ski is crucial, as flushing the systems with running water is essential. If your jet ski is cooled with an open-loop cooling system, it is necessary to remove the chair when it is filling up with water. If the jet ski is filling up while running or stationary, it is important to determine if it is filling up when running or stationary.

Water leaks into jet skis during rides, regardless of their make and model. External water finds its way through the air vents next to the seat or through the front hood. To address these issues, it is essential to determine if the jet ski is filling up when running or stationary. If the jet ski is filling up when running, it is usually due to a bad seal on the main shaft or a loose compression fitting on a hose that needs tightening.

Other typical sources of leaks include loose or cracked cooling hose, through hull driveshaft bearing, drain plugs, and crackholes in the hull. To minimize water intrusion, store the watercraft on the trailer with drain plugs loose and the bow slightly elevated to prevent rain water from collecting.

Leaving the drain plugs loose is another common reason for water accumulating in the hull of jet skis. These plugs are intended to drain water from the thru hull for the drive shaft. To address these issues, it is essential to dry the hull completely before setting it in the water or fill it above the drive shaft.
