Does Mark Zuckerberg own a yacht?
Mark Zuckerberg’s new yacht, Launchpad, is enjoying its summer debut. The megayacht recently stopped in Mallorca and has since ventured further into the Mediterranean. It looks like Zuckerberg may dethrone Jeff Bezos as king of this year’s superyacht season.
While the Amazon founder made waves last year with the debut of his megayacht Koru, Zuckerberg is the name on the yacht world’s lips this season.
By May, the transaction seemed all but confirmed when both the yacht and Zuckerberg made their way to Panama to celebrate his 40th birthday with a fete that included a few spins on his infamous hydrofoil.
Now that summer is here, Zuckerberg has debuted Launchpad —and her support superyacht Wingman — on the biggest stage in the yachting world: the Mediterranean.
Does the royal family still have a yacht?
There are yachts, and there are superyachts, but royal yachts tend to be something else again. The United Kingdom hasn’t had a royal yacht for almost 25 years, but the British government just announced its intention to replace Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia.
No firm details have been released of what this replacement could be, but design proposals were recently invited. Time is of the essence, given that the official policy statement came with a proposed launch date just three years away.
The open brief suggests that what is needed now is less yacht, more national ship—a world-first build. Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he sees the vessel as more of a floating embassy to support royals and government ministers alike.
That concept is broadly familiar. During its 44-year service life as a ship of state, Britannia racked up more than 1 million nautical miles and 696 foreign visits. Every itinerary was about promoting the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and trade promotion was always a part of the job description. For instance, Britannia made several trips to the United States, including both coasts and Chicago via the St. Lawrence Seaway. Various presidents and their wives were guests aboard, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton.

Who did Steven Spielberg sell his yacht to?
The original Seven Seas – whose name is inspired by Spielberg’s seven children – measured 282 feet and boasted an expansive spa, gym, beauty salon, and, of course, movie theatre. But the four-time Academy Award winner sold the ship to Canadian billionaire Barry Zekelman in 2021 for a cool $151m (the ship has since been renamed Man of Steel).
It seems Spielberg has caught the superyacht bug; the new Seven Seas is even bigger and more lavish than her predecessor. So, what do we know about the director’s latest ship? While Oceanco has remained relatively tight-lipped on the project, a few key details have emerged which we’ll dive into here.

The superyacht – previously known as project Y720 – was commissioned back in 2022 for a whopping $250m. She was built by Oceanco – the same shipyard that made Spielberg’s old boat in Alblasserdam, a town in the western Netherlands around 12 miles from Rotterdam. Omani billionaire businessman Mohammed al Barwani bought the luxury shipyard back in 2010 (he also owns Turquoise Yachts in Istanbul).

Does the Pope own a yacht?
On Monday, Liguria Nautica stated that digging into the private life of Pope Francis revealed he was the owner of a Sunseeker 34 Metre Yacht, a megayacht that measures 111’3″. The name of this megayacht should have been Clue #1 that the story was all a big joke: Vatican Fish. Just in case that didn’t give them pause, though, they should have started laughing at the very next sentence. It stated that the megayacht was registered with a Cayman Islands company called Joke Inc.
Despite that, some readers and news outlets truly believed the rest of the article’s claims, such as this eyebrow-raising quote from Pope Francis: “I use it rarely, to bring to fish the bodies of the Swiss Guard.” Perhaps for extra measure, the website added that the Sunseeker megayacht was registered in the Cayman Islands to evade taxes and charters to avoid paying duty on fuel. The story goes on to say that while the Pope was still a Cardinal, he charged “hundreds of thousands of euros for ‘fenders, marine accessories and dock fees’ to the Pontifical budget, and even wrote a letter to an Argentinian newspaper (named El Pescado of Domingo, no less) harshly criticizing the exorbitant docking fees in Italy.
Liguria Nautica published a story explaining the prank the next day, expressing surprise at how many people and news outlets fell for it. Several readers shared the news on their Facebook pages, “accompanied by comments sometimes funny, sometimes bawdy,” the website states. One newspaper even picked up on the story, running it under the headline “the Pope is a ‘Vatican Fish.'”
