Who Built The Black Pearl Yacht?

The Black Pearl, a 106.7 m sailing yacht, was built by Oceanco in the Netherlands and delivered to its owner in 2018. It was designed to cross the Atlantic using only 20 liters of fuel, aided by regenerative technologies. The yacht took six years to build and was the second-largest sailing yacht in the world. Born in 1950, Burlakov sought to build one of the most technically advanced yachts on the ocean. The yacht, which measures 106m LOA, has a top speed of 17.5 kn and is powered by two MTU diesel engines. The yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests in six.

The yacht’s design was commissioned by Russian billionaire Oleg Burlakov, who passed away in June at age 72. Dykstra Naval Architects designed the hull and three 70 meter DynaRig carbon masts and sailing system for the yacht. The sail area is subdivided into four sections.

Black Pearl is one of the largest and most ecological sailing yachts in the world, capable of crossing the Atlantic without burning even a liter of fossil fuel. The 350-foot long yacht was commissioned by Burlakov’s family, who are fighting for their wealth. The Black Pearl is a testament to the power of innovation and sustainability in the yacht industry.

  • Any yacht of that size must have engines and probably bow thrusters. It’s necessary for control when approaching marinas and mooring generally. I saw this beautiful ship in Majorca, it was moored for a few days, it was a very cool ship to see in person. I’m pretty sure the sails are completely automated, so technically it could be sailed solo. Amazing really.

  • Sailing yatchs have bad reputation on the megatach world? XD Maybe they have bad reputation among those severely lacking on aesthetic taste. You only have to take a look to some of the sailing beauties out there. But yes, one thing may be certain: for those who like sailing, you usually don’t need such a big yatch, which can reduce the experiencie of being truly sailing and in control. There ate many sailing superyatchs in the 30-60 m range. Above that I think you start losing something on the sailing experiencie. But to be honest, 45 m saling yatch should be enough for most
