The River Tern originates in the Staffordshire moors and flows through the midlands and most of the ‘shires before joining the River Ouse and entering the North Sea via the River Ouse. Rudyard Lake, located in the Staffordshire Moorlands, attracts over 500,000 visitors annually. The Lake covers 168 acres and is over 2.5 meters deep.

The Stafford Canoeing and Watersports Club is one of the largest canoe clubs in Staffordshire, offering opportunities for children and adults of all abilities in fun, recreational canoeing, competitive kayaking, paddle-ability, and crew boat sessions. The club’s aims are to promote and pursue canoeing and kayaking activities, explore the River Tern with Shrewsbury Canoe Hire, and provide cruising excursions.

Titlesworth Water Sports and Activity Centre, Stanley Head Outdoor Education Centre, and Hollywood Bowl Wolverhampton are some of the best sailing and kayaking destinations in Staffordshire. The Stoke-on-Trents Heritage Canoe Trail is a governing body affiliated paddling club that offers canoeing, kayaking, or SUP services near you. Can you canoe on the River Dart?

The River Dart offers some of the best white water canoeing in the country, but please be aware that the river can rise very quickly after rain and so is only suitable for experienced canoeists.

Access Points. Within the National Park, the permitted access and egress points for the River Dart are at Dartmeet, Newbridge, Holne Weir and the Dartbridge cafe.Do not disembark at other points unless in an emergency.

Did You Know?. If you want to canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard on many of our rivers and canals you will need a licence to do so. Purchased individually, licences in Paddle UK membership would cost you £150!

Can I take my canoe on the canal?

Do I need a licence?. Yes! The best way to get a licence is to become a member of Paddle UK or Canoe Wales. Not only will you get access to our network of inland waterways, you’ll get a host of other benefits too.

Alternatively you can buy a short term visitor licence from our boat licensing pages. Please note that a licence allows you to paddle on our canals and rivers, but not our reservoirs. Some reservoirs have sailing clubs which you may be able to join to paddle on them.

Can you swim in River Trent?

However, the River Trent is a fast flowing river and there are no supervised swim locations along the Nottingham stretch of the Trent. Therefore, you should only swim here if you are a strong, experienced swimmer and you have good knowledge of the river and its condition before getting in. We strongly recommend having someone on the riverside to spot you in the water so if you get into difficulty, they can call for help. We also recommend wearing atow floatordry bagto reduce the risks.

If you do decide to swim in the River Trent despite its risks, some of the best places to go for a dip are off Victoria Embankment, at the Ferry Boat Inn Pub at Burton Joyce, in the river next to Attenborough Nature Reserve, and where the river passes through Holme Pierrepont.

Is Pigeon River safe to swim in?

Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have put in great effort to help with the Little Pigeon River clean-up. Now, thanks to clean-up crews, officials and volunteer organizations, visitors and locals can enjoy a safe and clean place to fish and swim with their families.

The area of the Little Pigeon River in Sevierville that has now declared clean and open to the public is north of downtown along Highway 66 (Winfield Dunn Parkway). The connecting streams and rivers in that section have been declared safe as well including Gnatty Branch, Baskins Creek, King Branch, Roaring Fork and Holy Branch.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation plans to continue testing other areas of the river as quickly as possible. Within the next year, they plan to have the river completely cleaned up, so that fishing will be allowed throughout Sevier County into Pigeon Forge.

Is it safe to swim in the River Dart?

Swimmers are requested to avoid the main channel and busy mooring areas, and to follow the advice below. Never dive or jump into water of an unknown depth. Never swim near moving boats, boats running their engines or boats which may depart their moorings. Never swim in strong currents and/or tides.

Swimming on the Dart.. The River Dart and Dart Estuary is a truly stunning place to swim. The waters from Totnes, heading to downstream to Dartmouth have swooping bends, steep wooded banks, in peaceful surroundings. Further downriver, in the mouth of the estuary, there are gentle, sloped beaches, already labelled as designated bathing areas.

Dart Harbour understand the benefits that outdoor swimming brings, and instead of restricting or banning swimming, we try to follow a more pragmatic approach, such as providing recognised areas and information for all harbour users.

Safety.. Whilst the Dart is a beautiful place to swim, it, like any other port or harbour has risks associated with being in or near the water. These risks can vary depending on the ability of the individual. If you have concerns about your ability, try to find a lifeguarded beach, outdoor swimming instructor or group prior to swimming on the Dart.

Can I canoe on the River Trent?
