Dangerous Cruise Ports You Should Stay Far Away From!. Experiences on my two last cruises reminded me that just because my cruise ship is calling into a port does not mean that I can assume it’s safe for me to get off and explore. In fact, even in the two most popular cruising regions, the Caribbean and Mediterranean, many of the most visited ports are amongst the riskiest. Let’s look at some of the most dangerous cruise ports.
Dangerous Cruise Ports In The Caribbean. Let’s start in the Caribbean. It’s the most popular cruising region and so it’s easy to get lulled into a sense of false security. But poverty is widespread across the islands and there’s increasing gang activity and political instability in many. Creating six risky ports that ships regularly call to. In fact, my two recent back-to-back cruises there called into all of them!
The first three I visited on my first cruise which was on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.

Mahogany Bay has plenty of ways to experience it all, starting with a visit to Gumbalimba Park, where you can take a zip-line Canopy Tour or a regular park tour to observe birds, insects and local creatures such as capuchin monkeys and capybaras. There are more birds at the Roatán Butterfly and Bird Park, and the region’s plant life is just as extraordinary: see exquisite orchids and other exotic varieties at Carambola’s Gardens.
Sure, there are marine parks where you can swim with dolphins but imagine playing with dolphins in their natural environment. You can, in Roatán, with a tour to Anthony’s Key and the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences. There are also shorter encounters available, where you can simply stand in the water and meet local dolphins as you learn more about their daily lives.
To see the full beauty of Roatán’s coastlines and coves, it’s best to hit the water. Take a catamaran sail tour and you’ll get to experience ocean breezes, up close glimpses of the coral reef, and postcard-worthy views of the island’s lush landscape. Catamaran cruises also include time for snorkeling and a buffet lunch onboard so you can refuel after your adventures.

I absolutely love getting up early to watch the sunrises on cruise ships, especially in Sea Days, perusal the sun rise in the middle of ocean is amazing and I have dozens of fantastic pictures and articles. I have been to Mahogany Bay four times on different Carnival Ships and absolutely love it there, I have never been on an excursion. I just love the relaxed and laid back environment there, I always take the walk to the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the walk through the woods and wetlands is awesome, I have lots of great pictures and articles of the ships from the dock in the nature trail and the big bridge that leads to the Beach, I love just getting lunch and a drink and enjoying sitting there either on the beach or at one of the bars/restaurants perusal people go by and meeting new people. And I also love that when you go through the shopping part that in the back is an open air market with lots of vendors that sell handmade items, I have purchased several different items that make wonderful gifts and reminders of my trips,
Yes, Carnival Glory is a nice ship. Never been to Mahogany Bay or to Honduras. Never have been to the other ports-of-call you went to. Not much of a beach person. Shopping could be interesting. Like butterflies. In the Honduras do they accept American money? No, I’ve seen beer prices higher. If I went there, probably shop, walk around, then go back to the ship. With most people off the ship could have some peace and quiet. Like to eat and practice at the craps table. Don’t like heights so going on that ride would be out. Carnival has good food. Did hit the like button. Also, am subscribed.
My wife and I are leaving July 4th week on carnival liberty and doing the same ports as you guys went to. Thanks so much for sharing this definitely given us some insight on the ports. We have the ultimate beach excursion planned for Roatan and the catamaran planned in Cozumel. We have decided to stay on the ship in Belize I have no desire to take a water taxi.
