The Dolphin Cay is the only place where you can snorkel alongside dolphins with a hand-held underwater scooter as you swim together in a deep-water lagoon. With its crystal-clear waters, beginners and advanced snorkelers alike will find it easy to spot marine life including blue marlins, sea turtles, barracudas, eels, and even nurse sharks. Resort guests can snorkel to discover sunken artifacts of the lost city of Atlantis in the Ruins Lagoon. Once returned, masks and snorkels are separated from fins and bags. The mask and snorkels are placed in a large sink, where they are soaked in a mixture of dish soap and hospital grade sanitizer for one hour. They are then individually scrubbed by hand, rinsed and hung to dry before returning to the rack for rental. This ensures that all of the gear going out is safe and germ free. It also aids in reducing mask fog while snorkeling.

The biggests threats to sharks and rays, categorized as the scientific term elasmobranchs (cartilaginous fishes), comes from humans. Sharks are targeted and/or captured as bycatch in commercial gillnets and longlines, as well as sport fishing and coral reef degradation.

In The Bahamas, longline fishing was banned in 1993, and peak elasmobranch export occurred the same year. The export steadily declined until the last export of any elasmobranch product from The Bahamas occurred in 2004.

Atlantis doesn’t do “free” well, so by “free” I really mean, you can enter for free, but it’s assumed you’ll spend money while you are there. Don’t expect to access much of the property. Marina Village. Marina Village is located next to the hotel on the edge of the marina. It is full of colorful shops, restaurants, and street vendors. Though it is open to the public and looks separate, it is an extension of the Atlantis property, so reservations to restaurants will be more difficult to get since guests of the hotel take priority.
