Where Are Hylas Yachts Built?

Hylas Yachts is a brand of fiberglass, center-cockpit sailboats and luxury power yachts built in Taiwan by Queen Long Marine Ltd. The company was introduced by Joseph Huang in 1984 and has since produced over 520 yachts to designs by world-renowned naval architects such as German Frers, Bill Dixon, Sparkman Stephens, and Dean Salthouse. Located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the shipyard is home to a 32,000 sq ft main construction hall, a laminating hall, a large paint facility, extensive design and administration offices, and the famous full-sized Hylas Yachts.

The Hylas brand was created by Joseph Huang of Queen Long Marine Ltd., located in Our Heritage. The brand has been creating innovative yachts under the Hylas brand for over 40 years, with designs from Sparkman Stephens, Germán Frers, Bill Dixon, and Salthouse of New Zealand. The first boat was the SS designed STEVENS 47, which were sold mostly to charter clients.

The Hylas Yard at Queen Long Marine has been dedicated to the exclusive production of Hylas Yachts for over 40 years. The history of Hylas Yachts began in the late 1970s in Taiwan, where Joseph Huang opened the yard and successfully built sailing yachts, mainly for charter. Dean Salthouse visited the builders of the Salthouse Corsair and Hylas Yachts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in March.

The Hylas H57 was designed by Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design and built by Hylas. The company’s unofficial origins can be traced back to the late 1980s when Joseph Huang founded the company in 1978. The company’s reputation for producing luxurious, ocean sailing-capable yachts has earned it a strong presence in the yacht industry.
