The Indian government has issued new guidelines for domestic commercial passenger flights, effective from May 25th. These guidelines were announced following a high-level meeting to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation and travel industry. The ban on domestic air travel for nearly two months in late March last year and suspension of scheduled international air services to and from India as a result of health guidelines was lifted on May 7th.
The new guidelines for domestic flights in India 2023 aim to provide a smoother and more streamlined air travel process for passengers. Airlines operations across airports, which were impacted by a global IT outage, returned to normalcy on Saturday with all services from ticket sales. The aviation and travel industry has welcomed the government’s decision to restart domestic flights from May 25th. Ankur Bhatia, Executive Director of the airline industry, said that airlines are expected to see a full recovery to their ridership levels by 2025, but it could be 18 to 24 months before travel picks up again. Air travel in particular will be slow to recover.
In the meantime, passengers can check flights operating at T1 starting on September 2, 2024, using IndiGo’s menu to book hotels, group bookings, hotels check-in, and manage.

What will India look like in 2050?
India is predicted to reach a GDP per capita of USD 21, 000 by 2050, boosting its purchasing power and making it a dominant global force. However, the rising population poses a challenge, with reports suggesting a peak of 1. 65-1. 7 billion by 2050. The life expectancy for Indian men and women is expected to be 69. 5 and 75. 2 years, respectively, with both groups expected to live over 75 and 80 years in 2050. The population is expected to decline beyond this point.
What will travel be like in 2040?
By the year 2040, facial pattern recognition systems will have become a commonplace feature of airport, train station, and shipping terminal security procedures, effectively superseding the use of traditional passports and boarding passes. Such systems are currently undergoing experimental trials at airports.
How long will it take for flights to get back to normal?
Aviation is recovering well from the 2020-2022 pandemic, with passenger volumes expected to recover in most regions by the end of 2023. Private aviation has seen faster recovery, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in all regions by the end of 2022. The industry has shifted towards sustainability and green thinking, with a commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The pandemic severely impacted the aviation sector, with travel restrictions and limited operations. However, commercial air travel globally rebounded quickly after travel restrictions were released, often faster than anticipated by analysts and airlines.
What are the formalities for domestic departure?
To ensure a smooth and comfortable flight, passengers should bring valid identification documents, such as an ID card or passport, and a hard or soft copy of their air ticket. A boarding pass is also essential for seamless boarding and can be printed at check-in kiosks at Delhi Airport. Comfort essentials such as neck pillows, headphones, chargers, eye masks, medications, sanitizers, and travel-sized toiletries can be helpful. Mobile apps like DigiYatra and Live Flight Status Tracker can be helpful for a hassle-free journey.
Arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international departures is recommended. Electronics should be kept silent and headphones used when listening to music or watching videos. Maintain orderly lines at check-in, security, and boarding gates and follow airport signage for directions to various services and facilities.
What is the future of traveling?
The majority of travel spending is domestic, with the US being the largest domestic market. China is expected to surpass the US in the coming years, highlighting the importance of capturing domestic travelers before focusing on international markets. New markets like India, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe are also growing as outbound tourism sources. Indians’ travel spending is expected to grow by 9% per year between now and 2030, while Southeast Asians and Eastern Europeans are projected to grow by around 7%.
Unexpected destinations are also attracting travelers, such as Rwanda, which has capitalized on sustainable tourism by limiting gorilla trekking permits and directing revenue towards conservation. AI is also transforming the travel industry, using advances in generative AI, machine learning, and deep learning to reimagine travel planning, booking, and experience.
What are the new rules for airports in India?
Starting July 31, 2024, Indian airports will require all passengers to have a barcoded ticket or boarding pass for entry into the departure terminal. This rule aims to enhance airport security and efficiency. Alternatively, passengers can use Digi Yatra, a biometric-based travel process, to bypass the barcode requirement. Airport security will verify the authenticity of the travel document and the passenger before allowing entry.
To ensure a smoother travel experience, passengers should confirm their ticket or boarding pass has a barcode. If traveling domestically, Digi Yatra may be an alternative. It is recommended that clients arrive at the airport early to avoid delays.
How will we travel in 2040?
By 2040, cross-border train journeys will be smoother and improved due to computer networks and the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing trains to run faster and closer together. High-speed trains will run at above 125 mph, with HS1 planning a new direct train route from London to Bordeaux.
Cruise ships of 2040 will be more environmentally friendly than today’s giant ocean liners, with ship operators building vessels powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). The first LNG-powered ship, Carnival’s AIDAnova, was launched in 2018, and a new fleet of LNG-powered cruise liners will come into service over the next ten years. These advancements will transform cruise vacations into one of the greenest ways to travel the world.
Why are flights back quicker?
Jet streams, which flow from west to east, can significantly speed up or slow down a flight, depending on the direction. This can be seen in shorter transcontinental flights between cities like New York and Los Angeles, which can impact flight times by up to an hour. However, on long-haul transpacific routes, these streams can be beneficial for both passengers and airlines. For example, following the polar stream can reduce flight time from Tokyo to Los Angeles by just ten hours and five minutes.
However, jet streams also have a drawback: clear air turbulence (CAT), which occurs when a slow jet stream interacts with a fast jet stream, causing violent shaking of the aircraft. CAT is impossible to detect visually or by aircraft radar.

📹 THIS FLIGHT WILL NEVER FLY AGAIN! Most Unique Inaugural Flight?

I know how you felt. During the Bears one and only Super Bowl winning season, they lost only one regular season game, against the Miami Dolphins. I was in a Ft. Lauderdale bar decked out in full Bears regalia for the game. Oh, Lord, did I get a boatload of grief from the local Dolphins fans. It truly sucked. 🤣
Some flight attendants set up your midflight snacks up front instead of on the counter at 2L/2R because, when placing them there for you, they get raided by Premium Economy. Glad you had a pretty nice flight and a great crew. That crew was likely very senior. Our charter operated from GRB to GRU was staffed by an ORD-based inflight crew with 52 to 60 years seniority among them. Each!
Theres a reason the snacks arent placed at the bar you spoke of. We recognize that the snacks are for Business Class and by placing them at that spot, Main Cabin and Premium Economy would take them all. Also, flights after 9 pm get the one shot. Anything before that has a standard BC service you are use to. Lastly, PHL crews probably didnt have Portuguese speakers as it isnt a normal flight and because it was a charter flight would have no need for such.
Always love your articles Patrick, also love the NFL which we have had in the UK on TV since the 80’s in a limited way, and which I now have a subscription for and have had for a few years. My teams are the Lions and the Falcons in no particular order, and for two completely different reasons. Fun fact – there are about 70 men’s teams playing in the UK which are split into two conferences, so not everyone is hating on it and the games’ popularity has increased for sure since we have had the games which are played in London. As for American Airlines, the jury is still out on them. Much love to you from Yorkshire, look forward to your articles every week ❤
I think PHL deserves a nonstop flight to Tokyo (Narita). I mean, just like Boston, a nonstop PHL-NRT route could be a catalyst for other nonstop international flights out of Philly, including Hong Kong, Amman, Taipei, Abu Dhabi, etc. Even Hainan (Airlines) could have nonstop flights out of Philly towards both Beijing and Shanghai.
I like how you still went to Sao Paulo where you got robbed the first time you went just to experience something unique looks like you overcame your fear of SP! The US and Brazil market was big with the American using 757s serving more smaller cities along with the big 2 (Sao Paulo and Rio) but once they left the market got SIGNIFICANTLY smaller only serving the big 2 nowadays but I can see the XLR changing that. Colombia on the other hand is much bigger probably from the bigger demand and shorter distance from the US. American alone operates to 6 cities with Delta and United only operating to 2 and 1 respectively (although UA is starting MDE service soon) It got so popular that AA through September 2021 and Spring 2022 starting sending Boeing 777-200ERs to Bogota 787-8s to Medellin and Cali from Miami, I was fortunate enough to travel to Cali during this time on the B788!
Phoenix, Charlotte and Philadelphia…yes, in all of my years flying American post-merger, there was a common denominator among those three hubs yet I couldn’t put my finger on it. And now you nailed it! And I think the smallest Admirals Club I’ve been in was at PHX. Makes that one you went to at PHL look like a cathedral LOL!
PHL had the QR DOH flight for 9 years until AA decided to swap with PHL. I don’t think that PHL-DOH is all connecting passengers on the domestic side. Even with the B6 NEA ended, AA could have double down on JFK just didn’t dedicate enough resources to JFK either because of slots or pilot shortage. AA had the opportunity to turn PHL into a focus city and make JFK the main hub. Right now, PHL is a slow growing city it is not JFK and not EWR. But it does have a sizeable metro area. So is ATL, DTW, DFW, IAH. All fortress hubs and somewhat known internationally. Anyways GO BIRDS! Yes we are jerks
Looks like you got a Safran Concept D seat by the way they are also found on B777-223/ER fleets. Looking at your seat it turns out it’s the airbag Style seat up you’re missing a 3-point belt. By the way your crew are Brazilians/Chilean former Latam or moved from Brazil to US. Even rare Japanese/Taiwanese/Filipino/South Korean AA flight attendants. If you have to choose between SFO-EWR-GRU Star Alliance UA Skyteam Alliance DL SFO-JFK-GRU and Oneworld Alliance AA/AS SFO-PHL-GRU which one is going to be your pick? The first choice if you couldn’t make EWR-SFO from GRU-EWR the good news is United Airlines has two South American Partners Panama Copa and the Colombian Avianca which means if GRU-EWR is missed you’re going to do via PTY CM or AV. Which means entry to the United States is San Francisco alternatively UA GRU-IAH-SFO.
Wouldn’t Charlotte seem to have the same problem you described with Philadelphia (not enough O&D passengers)? If not why is it different? Do you see Philadelphia and/or Charlotte getting a nonstop flight to Asia in the future, especially with Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific being part of the One World Alliance?
Since this was a one-time deal, how did you and the others on the flight learn of it? I am an old guy who has been flying since the age of 4. It may be rose-colored glasses syndrome, but I remember flying being so much more unique. It has been dumbed down over the last two decades, but then I suspect the sparkle has dimmed for the flight attendants having to deal with so much idiocy. Or perhaps greed is intruding into the experience. Nonetheless, it was a very well-presented review. Thanks.
Great article Patrick! Love it as a unique flight however I’m no Eagles fan! 😂 I’m with you SF49ERS! 🎉 Cheers my friend 🥂 it certainly looks like an incredible experience for a one time only flight and certainly seems unique that’s to be sure! 😂 Also Brazil is always a fun place to visit, I recently visited São Paulo in March on a flight with Delta from Atlanta and then the reverse back with Delta too. My review of Delta Comfort Plus back from GRU-ATL it Lete if you’d like to check it out: youtu.be/d-ctarcRl5g -Caleb’s Aviation
15:35. The quality of THAT?!!? 👀?!!? Patrick??? It looks awful. Plus who on earth would consider it sensible to pair lobster mac and cheese with beef 🤮?!!? Oh that’s right ;only American Airlines 🤷🏼♂️. American have long lost their way as an airline, and I sadly don’t think they are even in the ball park of rediscovering it 😕.
