What To Wear For Your Beach Holiday?

A stylish swim cover-up is a versatile two-piece outfit that can be worn as a set or pulled apart, taking you from the beach to town. There are many ways to put together a cute and versatile outfit, such as wearing dresses, all-black to color, or a cute sarong over your bikini. A beach vacation capsule wardrobe is a capsule wardrobe specifically designed for a beach vacation, including swimsuits, beach cover-ups, and sandals that can be paired together.

Beach season is upon us, so it’s time to find outfit ideas to beat the heat while still looking cool. Accessories like oversized sunglasses, straw hats, gold jewelry, and more can elevate beach vacation clothes. When dressing for a beach vacation, it’s tempting to wear your most casual items, but a swimsuit that can double as a top, paired with shorts, is essential. Throwing a sweater over your shoulders can elevate any look.

To feel pretty on a tropical beach vacation, embrace color, white, and looser, cool fabrics like cotton. Opt for lightweight, flowy maxi dresses in breathable fabric like regenerative cotton or linen, and add a woven bag or clutch for a chic look. Beach vacation outfits can include cute suits, chic cover-ups, stylish straw hats, denim shorts, one-and-done rompers, and wide leg pants. To achieve a beach-ready look, choose a non-stick, sand-proof SPF sunscreen that glides on smoothly and works for all skin types. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Sun Drops SPF50 has a matte, non-tacky finish, while Noble Panacea’s The Energist Multi-Defence Lotion SPF30 uses only mineral sun filters for a creamy finish. Transparent and oil-free formulas are ideal for avoiding sand-streaked sunscreen smears.

To prevent residual stickiness, refresh your skin between applications with a hydrating toner like Augustinus Bader’s The Mist or a salicylic acid or willow bark extract for oily skin. After misting, use a reusable cleansing pad or muslin cloth to reset your complexion and tap a hyaluronic acid serum over skin to hydrate before reapplying your SPF.

A successful beach look involves feeling pulled together, and a subtle, fluttery lash adds a hint of polish. Long-wearing formulas that lengthen and separate lashes for instant definition are recommended. For dark lashes, use jewel-toned colored mascara like Hermès Beauty’s Trait d’Hermès Volume Mascara in Violet Indigo or Sisley’s So Intense Mascara in Deep Blue. Blend a balm formula like Westman Atelier’s multitasking Baby Cheeks Blush Sticks over both cheeks and lips for a glowing finish. For combination or oily skin types, Charlotte Tilbury’s Beauty Blush Wand in Pillow Talk or U Beauty’s The Plasma tinted Lip Compound is perfect for beachy coral.

Ill-fitting beachwear can cause discomfort and self-confidence, as it can cause the bottoms to ride up or the top to slip. Leather bags, especially those with metal details, should not be taken to the beach as they can be scratched by sand, salt water, suntan lotion, and strong sunlight. Instead, opt for raffia, wicker, or fabric bags for a more sensitive and less sensitive option.

In summary, jewelry, swimwear, and leather bags should be left at home when going to the beach due to their sensitivity to salt water, sunlight, and sand. Instead, opt for raffia, wicker, or fabric bags for a more comfortable and less sensitive experience.

Debbie Green

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • Anna, thank you for educating me on linen years ago. The majority of my summer wardrobe is linen and it is fantastic for keeping me cool and looking a bit elevated (much classier than a cotton t-shirt). I also find it very disrespectful when tourists wear inappropriate attire in places of worship. We should think of ourselves as representatives of the country, city or town we are from when traveling, so dress well.

  • Ladies, wear modest clothes and do not be afraid of the heat. The more you cover the body, the more it will be protected from the direct heat of the sun. And she’s right, the choice of material is the most important. This is a sincere advice of a veiled girl from a country where the temperature in the summer rises to 45 degrees. Your speech is very wonderful and sane Anna.

  • I think linen is seen differently in different cultures, because I was raving about how posh linen looks to my friend from Indonesia and she said in her culture linen is mostly worn by the servants and help staff of rich families. I was a little bit surprised, but it makes sense as it’s a hardy, rough and cooling material that’s perfect for work attires in the tropics.

  • It’s such a myth that wearing less clothing in the heat makes you cooler! Recently amidst the NYC heat wave I began to wear longer sleeves, pants, and maxi skirts in breathable fabrics (for modesty & sun/ pollution protection)— I’ve actually been more comfortable and cooler than I ever was wearing shorts and tanks.

  • These are all great tips, Anna. I have “touristed” a lot in Europe in summer and usually manage to look so much like a local that tourists ask me for directions and locals speak in their own language to me. Looking “expensive” is not the goal though. There are many expensive clothes and accessories that look less than ideal. We want to look classy, elegant, timeless, at-ease, quality, elevated.

  • Your advice is always so refreshing! Do you have any advice for younger ladies? Say between the ages of 14-18? It’s so hard to be classy as a teenager while retaining that youthful teenage look. How do I find that balance? As an 18 year old I do find myself dressing in a manner that ages me which is a shame because I would like to look young while I am young if that makes sense

  • Love the point about churches, unfortunately this common sense and courtesy is not so common! It’s also important to note that in many of the bigger cathedrals in Europe, the staff will not let you enter if you are wearing inappropriate clothing and they may ask you to buy a covering for the duration of your visit – i’ve seen this many times. So it’s better to be respectful and prepared rather than be embarrassed at the entrance!

  • I love perusal Anna as everything she says is exactly what my mom taught me when growing up. And now that I follow my moms tips, I feel really awkward and out of place as …most people don´t dress like this. So it´s really nice to see her talking about these things as I´m not alone anymore, others do wear things like this too!

  • “Anna Bey approved”…! You are delightfully witty, dear friend. Most of the time I watch and listen without commenting – sometimes I approve, sometimes less. I must say, however, that I’ve been following you (from time to time) for let’s say 2 or 3 years, now, and despite your young age you give common sense, practical advice and I can see that you’ve been constantly trying to improve your appearance, your manners etc. Of course: you have a brain that works, a lot of stubbornness and you know very well what you want. Bravo Anna: keep it up. Love from Rome/Italy

  • Dear Anna, excellent advice, classy and chick. Thank you. I truly wish more women in this world would understand certain basic rules for dressing. Too often the answer is: ” Elegant? Why? I want to feel comfortable.” One can be comfy in any outfit as long as it is the right size and the right material. Have a wonderful summer.

  • I don’t wear sneakers unless I’m at the gym. I prefer sandals. When my man and I travel, or are in Boston on the weekends, I always wear my linen, summer, or maxi dresses with sandals and I feel so comfortable. I also love admiring other ladies’ outfits while we walk-so many different styles-classy, simple, comfortable, and beautiful all at once.

  • When I’m in Europe I love wearing linen palazzo pants with a wide band sleeveless linen top in the same color. I always have a long scarf in my bag and when I go into churches that scarf turns into a shawl to cover my shoulders! If I go out to a nice dinner, that scarf is around my neck and ups my outfit tremendously!

  • Anna, I have been perusal your articles for around four years now and you always have great advice. I love your modest take on elegant dressing as there is a misconception that you cannot look good unless you are showing a lot of skin. I was able to understand my body type and style personality and also was able to narrow down my style (for me it’s vintage inspired while still looking modern and classic) and I have never felt so confident in my clothes. I absolutely love my wardrobe! Thank you!

  • I try not to dress up or look “expensive” as a tourist. I try to blend in with the locals as much as possible. Many places I visit are impoverished (but very beautiful) countries. As such, the people are poor and need only an excuse to mug you or worse. Leave jewellery at home and don’t look “expensive” unless you want to be a target. PS pants and leggings are harder to remove if someone attacks or attempts to r*pe you. Function over fashion unless you’re vacationing on a private yacht! Please

  • Thank you Anna for pointing out the disrespectful attire at churches. When I was a kid, most churches did not allow tourists or anyone for that matter, who was wearing sleeveless shirt. We had to put a jacket or shawl over us. Now time has changed. I would say that okay, sleeveless is maybe okay, but still, some outfits these tourists wear are so appalling and too bad that church no longer refuses them.

  • Thank you! I am so tired of women wearing work out gear literally everywhere! I agree, wearing revealing clothes in churches and cathedrals just make you look ignorant! Your advice about elevated warm weather looks was spot on. To a summer festival I recently attended, I wore a sleeveless white blouse (tip: wear it buttoned lower than the right button, use a small 🧷 safety pin to secure the low cut look) and high wasted skirt in a beautiful red and gold print fabric…giving leg, carrying a fabulous bag and well chosen jewelry, and my big shades. I stood out from the booty shorts, tank top wearing women. My upscale look pulled a fine looking well-heeled Man. We had a great afternoon listening to the live performances and talking. We have been spending time ever since. First impressions! 😉

  • Anna you may not know me or read my comment but I wanted to tell you that you are an amazing woman that turned me from rags to riches if you know what I mean, i elevated myself and i still am elevating, I’m quite young though, thanks you for making me realise the value of small efforts, if some day Im able to enroll in your course I’ll consider that day to be the luckiest day of my life lv your articlees you personality and especially you, keep inspiring us!

  • Thank you for yet more wonderful advice, Anna! I especially loved how your emphasize wearing appropriate clothes for places of worship. I agree that linen and A-line dresses are a fabulous summer choice. I’m not so keen on sneakers with dresses–flats or canvas shoes with foot support tend to be a more flattering and upscale combination, especially for those of us who are not long-legged. Thank you again for helping to make the world a more graceful place!

  • Thank you. This article is exactly what I’ve been waiting for years from you Anna. Living in Bali where it’s “summer” everyday and moving around on two wheels everywhere.. I don’t have any problem with dresses to wear to stay neat & classy around Bali. Besides the culture prefers anyone to dress modestly anyway, so I’m comfortable with that. Footwear; now that’s tricky for me. Riding scooter, walking on uneven pavement, going to somebody’s house which only access is the dirt road, buying groceries in pasar (local market).. Heels sometimes won’t do

  • It took over 20 years but I literally cleared out all my clothes and bought more things that fit a capsule wardrobe. So more high-end pieces that mix and match in more neutral colours, silks, satins, mohair for Winter and all Linen for Summer! I avoid fast fashion now if possible just as it clogs up my wardrobe and I only usual get a few wears before it starts to fade and fall apart! YES it took time to get a good wardrobe, swapping that £40 H&M dress for a £130 one from Ghost, but now I have invested in it, I rarely need anything else. I swear by the brand Ghost London!

  • I pack golf and Eddie Bauer travel collection type high performance wrinkle free tailored clothes (skirt or dress, 2 pants 5 tops) a big silk scarf and a cashmere cardigan. To sleep -a slip. Polished leather loafers and hotel room slides/slippers. A paperback book. Can look put together for a couple of weeks with just one carry on bag. In my cosmetics bag is an 1″ square of laundry bar soap. My travel wear core, is mostly a dedicated collection. Handbag = tote with VIP stuff pinned in. Often hear, ‘that’s all you brought?’ Organized simplicity beats chaos! Besides most destinations do have stores.

  • I agree with every point you’re making here except the footwear. Many of us have bad feet and need supportive shoes. I will be bringing my linen, cotton, and modal clothing but also my Brooks running shoes on my next European vacation. If we are spending lots of money to go on vacation it’s not worth it to have sore feet.

  • What a refreshing outlook! Feminine, classy appropriate for occasions, quality fabrics, respectful of other cultures and the way they live, worship, etc…AND you always look beautiful! It’s funny, but today I was looking at backpacks and fanny packs for future travel, and I immediately thought “Would Anna term these as classy?” the answer was NO, and I kept on walking,LOL. Besides they were far from being attractive. Although young moms do carry them when they have little ones because it leaves both their arms free, understandable. I am always thinking, wallet, phone, comb, lipstick, compact, and wonder if it all fits in the small bags? I love the look of linen. The blue linen dress looked stunning on you. Thank You Anna. And please keep expounding on NO leggings and athletic and athleisure wear, and running, shoes, It looks boring, everyone and their aunt is wearing them, looks unoriginal, all look the same, and plain, NO one, dressed like that stands out for looking beautiful and classy in a sea of leggings. I am thankful for young women like yourself who care about themselves!

  • Finally! I think you are the only one that ever tackle this .Do not wear clothes like you are going to a club when you go sight seeing and respect cathedrals, churches, holy and sacred places, chances are you won’t be allowed to come in anyway or you will be ask to wear skirts just like in Thailand when you visit the temples and those that are provided are not the best when you do picture and selfies. You are the best!!

  • Anna my deaar ! I was waiting for this article for three weeks now. I came to turkey few days ago, couldn’t do any major shopping untill i watch your article . Thank you veery much ! I actually got my leather sneakers and slightly oversized brown sunglasses for the summer ! I can say i am pretty much a good student of yours. Thank you again 💗 sending you loads of 💕😘

  • Anna, I am so happy that I found your website! As a 16-year-old who loves dressing elegantly and just elegance in general, I really appreciate your tips. Ever since I’m perusal your articles, I pay even more attention to small details. Whenever I walk into a fast fashion store, I feel like I am a quality controller 😅 and most of the times I walk out of the store disappointed mainly because of the quality of the garments, but at least I’m not spending my money on something that’s not worth it. I feel very confident and refined in elegant clothes, however, I didn’t really have the courage to wear them on regular school days because I felt like I would look so different from others. I did it like twice though, (I was like: “I don’t care, I don’t need to fit in, I’m gonna put on an elegant outfit today because I’m in the mood for it and won’t care about what others think”) and guess what? I got quite a few compliments from my classmates (and even from some of my teachers) about my outfit and how much it suits me. Also, once I was wearing an elegant outfit when I was shopping with my mom, and at some point she asked: Do you notice how many people take a look at you? I had no idea. This does not mean though that I’m gonna give up on wearing regular everyday clothes, but I’m gonna dress elegantly if I feel like it. 🤍 This shows how outstanding elegant people are, so ladies, wear those clothes if you want because you’ll shine in them! (and I’m not saying this negatively, I don’t want to be rude by any means, you can be outstanding in any outfit if you are being yourself, by outstanding I mean that nowadays not so many people dress this way, therefore it might stand out a little 🤍 + elegance is more about personality, being kind to others and handling every situation with class, but I really do like the way elegant people dress as well!

  • I will wear backpack when I take on Everest Base Camp Trek. I love your suggestions: bright colored small bags. Shorts are good for beach strolls. I think denim shorts are okay when you hike up Santorini or cruise on catamaran on Santorini caldera. When you take off your denim shorts, you still have your bikini swimsuit. So jump right off into the caldera.

  • I agree with your tips. I think it’s about time travelers start dressing like adults and not overgrown children. People need to stop saying they will be hot and uncomfortable if one dresses with dignity. Thank you for the plug about the shorts and tanks in places of worship. It’s totally inappropriate. 💕💕

  • Hi Elegant Anna Bey, Thank you for the article! I love all the rules. I have a vintage Billabong bucket bag that I’ve used sightseeing for years. I get compliments 8 out of 10 uses. Hey, what about rules or tips for how to level up,.. how a lady reacts emotionally when upset or triggered by another…um, like, tips on how to react like a classy lady when you really want to scream, yell and cry out loud in an airport, on a group tour, at a crowded holiday event… Have you done that already. 💖

  • Could you please give us a few tips on how to style sneakers in as many as ways possible cause owning those Jordan’s and Yeezy’s have become an extremely popular trend. Like style them with dresses, sports wear, with casual outfits, work wear and evening dresses/outfits as well. And also recommend a few of your favourite sneakers.

  • I love Anna’s vids and this is all good guidance. I’m in Monaco right now and tourists are easy to spot by the amount of makeup ladies wear. It is so they look good in pictures of course. But it is very noticeable. The amount of makeup on already pretty girls is out of control. Show your beautiful skin💐

  • Thank you for pointing out about dressing modestly. One thing I do is bring a scarf. You can use it as a skirt wrap, over the shoulders or as a dress, for those times when you enter churches or places where shorts and sleeveless pieces may seem disrespectful. Anna, could you feature ways to wear scarves in this way?

  • i agree with everything except choice of bag=s.. It will look good in pics. But when travelling its necessary to have a spacious bag. The bags that mention here cannot even hold a water bottle.. There are super cute medium size bag packs out there which hold travel essential. Chanel,Fendi, prada backpacks are my favorite out of them all.. These bags are not so bulky as a school bags. perfect size

  • I agree with everything except the back pack. There are really nice back packs that can go with elevated outfits. Also, it has to fit your life and stage of life. not using a back pack when you don’t have children will work for you, but when you have kids and vacationing back pack is a must, because you need to have hands free and pack things for the children. I would love to see you do an updated article on these types of things after you have children and try to strike a balance between classy and being practical.

  • Thank you ever so much Anna for this article! It could not have been said better. It is so important to dress appropriately and respectfully to the environment you are in. Thank you for sharing and showing the feminine community how to be an elegant lady in all circumstances. May the Lord bless you and keep you always!!!

  • I wish this article was out last month when I was getting ready to travel to Mexico on vacation for two weeks. 😅 I love all these looks you shared and would’ve definitely considered all these options as I struggled taking comfortable, cool fabrics, and stylish clothing. I could’ve used all these tips. lol 😅 Thanks for sharing, Anna! By the way, can you please make a article on what to wear when we go to theme parks and still look elevated and comfortable when getting on intense rides? Thanks in advance! Hugs from LA! – A u r o r a ♥️♥️♥️ P.S. Can you please share where we can find reasonable priced A-line dresses and those leather sneakers you mentioned? I need some in my wardrobe soon! 😄Thanks! 🙏♥️

  • Amazing as always, dear Anna! Would you consider sharing tips on staying elegant and feminine while chronically ill? I experience extreme joint pain and swelling as well as bloating from my conditions. Additionally, I cannot keep my arms up for long so tedious makeup and hair styling are out of the question. People suggest wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants everywhere, everyday. However, I cannot stand appearing unkept. I wear many looser dresses that still have a defined silhouette paired with a sleek bun and tinted moisturizer, but I was curious how you would style someone in my situation. Thank you in advance!

  • I agree on everything except the backpack. Don’t use your hiking backpack of course, get something like a clean and simple leather one that matches your outfit. But there is no way I am going to spend all day outside in the heat without carrying a big water bottle. If I can wear sneakers with a dress, I can wear a backpack 😉

  • I love linen shirts. It’s a fantastic suggestion. If we visit the countries like Turkey, Morocco and other Muslim countries, we will have chances of visiting mosques and the local villages. We had better respect these countries by wearing appropriate outfits. Shirts cover the shoulders, the collar and the chest, so I think shirts and pants are the most appropriate outfits to cover up.

  • Anna, as ALWAYS I LOVE your articles! Thank you so much for all of the information that you’re teaching us! ❤💐 And, Would you please do a article about hair colour and age. How to have a classy hair colour as we age and have grey hair? Should we go for lighter hair colours as we age? Or, should we stick to our natural hair colour? Pleeeeeeeease help!

  • I agree with every point, especially the linen. I found that having long linen dress or throusers on is more cooling than those heavy, sweathy jean shorts. However as a mom i can not live without a backpack, because I just have to carry around too much and still have free hands to grab my toddler. Also big shoulder bags make my back hurt and make me have a bad and inbalaced posture. I think a nice leather or canvas or straw backpack can look good if it is clean and minimal looking

  • I never understood why people think they are going to be hotter and sweating more when covering up – it’s actually the very contrary! Its when you’re UN-covered that the sun shines directly in your skin, that’s what makes you actually be hot! Instead, when you wear the fabrics Anna mentioned and use patterns that fit but are not too tight, you will survive summer without being awfully sweaty and hot all summer PLUS show off your elegance…

  • Hi Anna. I love you website. I discovered it few monthes ago – love the content – thanks. I agree with everything you have suggested here, except the following. Sneakers – I find that sneekers are as frumpy as running shoes. Instead of sneakers, I wear comefortable an inch to an inch half heel leather sandals. The sandals go well with summer dresses, summer skirts and linnen pants. This way I always look put together. It makes me sad to see how some women have neglected their appearance. The society has become way too casual, to my view. One more thing that I don’t fully agree with you Anna is, your hate for leggings. I believe, leggings can be worn in a very classy way – with a pair of knee high boots and a beautiful top, long enough to cover your bottom – looks lovely. I, personally, would not wear a shorts either when I travel – not appropriate for number places – for instance, visiting basilicas and even going to restaurants. Please, please ladies, do not carry back pack. Back packs are for little school boys and girls😊

  • I have a few questions after perusal the whole article. – How can you pack a hat into your luggage without it getting ruined along the way? I’m not really knowledgeable in summer hats department so I might not be aware of hats that could be crumpled left and right and still maintain their usual form. – While travelling to hot regions you might want to have water bottle with you at all times. Is there any bag that you could recommend that looks classy and isn’t too big to make it look bulky and uncomfortable to have on your shoulder. (My biggest problem is having my hands occupied or having a bag that slips off my shoulder so I have to adjust it ever so often)?

  • I agree with the small crossbody bag. That was what I had with me when I didn’t have kids. But now that I have kids, I either bring 2 separate bags (one for my personal stuff and one for my kids’ needs) or a mid size structured leather backpack that is convertible to crossbody or top handle purse. The latter may not be Anna-approved. 😬

  • Might I recommend cotton seersucker fabric for summer travel? It was designed for hot weather wear, you can skip ironing and because it is woven with little puckers, it doesn’t look obviously creased. And it is perfect for any garment, even including gentlemen’s suits. I have a classic striped shirt, shorts, sleeveless shirt and a jacket in it. It is a staple alongside my linen.

  • Anna, you are such a fan of hats! Could you give more direction on how a hat should be chosen. I struggle to find one with medium length hair, and with or without a pony tail. What styles are classy? Which are not? Maybe designers you prefer? Different price ranges? How do you travel with such hats? Whats the best way if there is a wire brim to position? it ok to tie it to your bag? And how do you avoid hat hair? Questions, questions, questions? I struggle with this. Thank you in advance?

  • I am travelling through southern europe and i see tourists going into shops and even Restaurants wearing nothing but a dripping wet bathing suit all the time… it seems so rude to me and you can see how uncomfortable the Shop owners and waiters are, asking this tourists to please get dressed properly. I wonder if this tourists would behave the same way in their hometown?

  • Thank you for the tips. I do, however, believe that it is better to wear whatever you have to visit a locale, even a religious one. Judge not…. “Class” is not everybody’s goal when dressing and is not defined the same way by everyone. I am older. I tend to dress more modestly. Still, I am happy to see younger people, even those clad in booty shorts, in various religious and cultural locations because it indicates interest in a diverse world.

  • When I was younger and visited churches in Europe and forgot a wrap for my shoulders I took out two baby wipes and put them under my straps and worked and I got inside !! Id be mortified now dressing like i did in 2004 /5 in my first few backpacking trips.. now locals stop me and ask for directions .. I’m queen of carryon luggage style !!

  • I was in Italy this month of May and we visited the Vatican – prior going there I checked the dress code. Everywhere it says you should follow some basic rules – no spaghetti straps, no short shorts and skirts, chest should be covered. When we went there I was a bit surprised at how many people were almost naked, wearing crop tops that look almost like bikini top, shorts, open backs… Yes, it was 30 degrees, but this is basic rule following – I am also not religious, but I think we should show some respect when visiting such places. I was also surprised they let everyone go in, but I guess it’s all about profit in the end, if they turn away the inappropriately dressed people the sales of tickets will drop with 60%-70%…

  • Anna, I have been perusal your articles for a couple of years now and I truly value all the knowledge and advice you have shared with us. But I must say, in the past year your personality and fantastic sense of humor has indeed come through the articles and I enjoy them more and more each time. You always manage to make me laugh and keep me in check with my femininity. I admire how you are a confident woman who knows herself and is not afraid to express her opinion in a respectful manner. Something I believe we all should strive for. God bless you and your loved ones. Thank you for helping us become the best version of ourselves.

  • One thing you forget is that a lot of tourist sites have pick pockets and maybe it is not a great thing to want to look very rich. I think fanny packs, especially the ones that go over the chest, are perfectly fine. Bringing a Chanel bag with the big CC logo on it is a bit tacky and makes you a target imo. You also dont want to have to worry about scratching the delicate leather if you are going to be walking around all day, possibly using public toilets, etc.

  • Good recommendations, though for many points it definitely depends where you are going. For example, I often mix city walk with a hike in a near by park/trail. Having hiking sandals or sneakers is simply safer in such case as it limits sliding. Also, small purse indeed looks nice, but again for many is not practical, in the summer you will really risk dehydration, especially when it is really warm and you are faced with mid-day closing times and lack of water in close proximity 😅. And if you are with a kid, for sure small purses are out of scope 🙈

  • I loved the winter article you did a few years back, please can you do a new one?! With any new ideas. I love how you put the pictures in the articles to give us the style inspiration, I find this so helpful. The winter one I would love to see what winter hats and accessories would look good especially when it rains/cold etc thank you Anna for another fab article! ❤️

  • Took a trip to Paris with a classy “expensive” wardrobe. As an elevated tourist I was a TARGET and ended up pickpocketed (nothing valuable since I’m street smart and they were hidden away) and unknowingly involved in a police sting operation. It was crazy! I couldn’t wait to leave Paris. Next year, I dressed down, blended in and had a GREAT TIME!!

  • As a former United Airlines International flight attendant, it is important to know before you go, how the locals dress. I remember being shocked yet flattered when people thought I was a local in Paris and Munich and even asked me for directions. It can also be a safety issue. If teenagers are being killed over designer, American sneakers in the foreign country you are traveling to, doesn’t it make sense to avoid flashy, status symbols that may get you killed? I could always tell the Italian business men on my flights by the quality of the fabrics they wore and rhe timeless styles.

  • It just blows my mind that so many people wear denim shorts. They are the most uncomfortable item of clothing you could wear, especially in summer. I live in Australia and this is a staple piece of clothing in society, so much so that everyone looks the same. I used to own a few pairs myself, but they never looked or felt right on me. It was an important lesson for me in that if something does not suit your body, you need to let it go as you are not doing any favours for yourself. You will always look at your wardrobe and think, I have nothing to wear, and it is true, you do not have anything to wear that suits you. Now I know how to dress for my body type and I always feel comfortable and of course elegant.

  • I live near Venice. When we go into the centre what can I say we know immediately who the tourists are!!! Hot pants, short shorts and crop tops and of course flip flops. This is not Venice beach I’m talking Venice the city!! And these people you see them dressed this way in churches. Believe me it’s frowned upon so true what you sayx

  • As I am perusal this article I am in Switzerland spending my vacation & noticed locals ” Swiss residents” were the ones wearing flip flops, training shoes, leggings, distressed jeans the top part barely hanging to the lower one by threads also women in bodysuits in shorts & nothing else literally everything you mentioned not to wear as tourists to blend in . Nowadays everyone locals or tourists are wearing the same thing . My husband & I could not blend in either the locals or tourists we are still old fashion people who like to ” dress up” 😁

  • Hi Anna, I love your website 💕 I do have something to add. When I go back home to visit friends and family, for my own safety, I have to dress down. My style of clothing has changed over the years so my friends remark that I look “chic” and “expensive” (its good dupes to match my pocket). I can’t walk around looking fabulous on holiday unfortunately as I would be a target for criminals who are already “scanning” for tourists at the arrivals in the airport.

  • I’m glad I found you! I agree with everything you said, I wish I always had the pocket book to match my tastes but, I do the best I can. I’ve noticed the under women, obviously not all but many think dressing up is club wear. I’ve seen this at three funeral homes I have attended. It makes me sad to think that dressing up means taking it off to so many.

  • Ana, Im a heterosexual man that have been your followers for a while now! I don’t agree with some of your views but I do understand that men and women want different things in life! I was still able to learn and ajuste, especially when it comes to etiquette and the importance of buying the right clothes! I would like to ask you to either create a website for man or to recommend something like yours! Most of websites for man, “only” low-key sell a bunch of products, and don’t really teach as much as you do! Thanks for your time!

  • I will wear a hat or cap until the sun goes down., and if it’s cold even when it’s dark. Direct sun on my head or direct cold are massive migraine triggers. I’ll be a bit less stylish but pain free. I would add a lightweight shawl. When you wear a nice sleeveless blouse you can cover your shoulders in church.

  • To confirm what Anna says about wearing more or less fabric during heat waves, just have a look at warm countries people. They don’t wear shorts, pants or sleeveless tops. On the contrary they are fully covered with relevant fabric and appropriate colors ( for example: Touaregs or desert inhabitants).

  • Lovely article! Also, I find it funny how you mentioned that sleeveless shirts and knee- length dresses for example may be too covering for people, considering some people don’t even show that much due to personal or religious beliefs (myself included). 😄 I live in a mostly hot & humid climate, so I’ve stocked up on linen everything! It’s way more cooling when you wear the right fabric, than to just show more skin and allow direct sun/heat to hit your skin and burn you up more.

  • You are amazing!❤ Not only the outfits you put together look sheek, comfy, colorful and awesome…your thought process of how to choose your dresses is mind blowing! 👏 I will take it from this article to pack dresses according to occasion on my next vacation and not just what I feel like packing at the moment 😊😊
