What To Pack For Summer Iceland Cruise?

In June, packing for Iceland is different from a typical summer trip, as it is common to experience various weather conditions in one day. To ensure a comfortable and stress-free visit, consider packing heavy items like jeans and jackets, as well as pants and tops that can be interchangeable. Down vests, fleece, and wool sweaters are essential, as are rainproof shoes (Goretex). A day-hike backpack with good support, lots of pockets, and a weatherproof shell is essential. Long pants are essential for a comfortable and warm summer Iceland packing list. Yoga pants, rain pants, Smartwool socks, a base layer for cold, a mid-layer zip jacket, sunglasses, a hat, scarf, gloves, bathing suit(s), and OTC medications like Ibuprofen are also essential. A waterproof outer layer, waterproof shoes, a couple of sweaters, gloves, and a fleece are also essential. Remember to grab a copy of the Iceland packing checklist for a comprehensive guide.

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • Very informative article! One of the best things about Iceland……no hot weather lol. I have a really great cell phone with epic camera (see my photo lol) and on trip #2 were bringing a GOPRO. We have a great camera, just trying to bring smaller things…hate bulky items, “oh be careful don’t get the camera wet” yipes.

  • Im Full hiker trash minimalist . What I pack : sunhoodie like a longsleeve with hood and thumbholes, alpaca wool thin sweater, mountain Hardwear ghostwhisperer down jacket, one hiking pants, one pair Patagonia Terrebonne joggers ( very lightweight ), 3 pairs socks, Patagonia shorts, ..long story short I’m like 2 pounds on extra clothes and that’s it add my 5.5oz rainjacket and 2oz rainwrap

  • We’re due to leave tonight, and are so excited! I have a question, that I understand I won’t necessarily get a answer in time (I should have posted MUCH EARLIER!): For religious reasons, I do not just wear pants (I would wear leggings under a skirt). Usually I live in denim, but I understand that it’s insane to wear denim if hiking as it never dries! What would your recommendations be for travel skirts that are at least below knee length?

  • Hey! My friend and i are going to be renting a camper for 4 days in iceland before heading off to mainland europe. Wondering how we should pack water. Should I buy bottled water there? (not a fan of one use plastic) or bring one of my backpacking water filter? Are there lot of options to fill up water on the loop? Somebody please help me out, thanks!

  • Thank you Jeannie! You have fed my planning compulsion in a wonderful way! We’ll be there bright and early on June 27, but can’t check into our Airbnb until 4pm. We’re renting a car, so we can do whatever we want, but after a quick stop for breakfast (!!!) at IKEA, I’m wondering how you would recommend 2 weary jet lagged travelers spend their time until check in? (No naps!) I’ve seen a hop, on hop off tour for about $30 per person (one of the airlines). What do you think of that? I know the walking tours are free, but I want to make it past dinner with NO NAP. Lol.
