📹 PACK WITH ME FOR A 5 NIGHT CARNIVAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE | November 2023 | WHAT TO PACK FOR A CRUISE
Today I wanted to show you what I am packing for a 5 night Caribbean cruise onboard the Carnival Freedom. I will also be sharing …
What clothes do I need for a Caribbean cruise?
The most important items to pack include clothing, footwear, documents, toiletries, and accessories. Everything else will comprise extras that offer additional convenience on your trip. Start by laying everything you need across your bed and sort your bag items from there. The wardrobe essentials will be such items as a few swimsuits, undergarments, casual shoes, dress shoes, shorts, T-shirts, casual skirts, slacks, sundresses, pajamas, formal wear for fine dining, workout clothes, and cover-ups for the pool or beach. When it comes to other essentials, sunscreen is important, as is a camera or camcorder. A Caribbean cruise isn’t something you can do every day — so capture as many memories as you can!
If you want to pack some fun items for your trip, consider your address book (make your friends jealous with a postcard!), a good book, a traveler’s guide to the places you’ll visit, and a journal to record all of your experiences. And before you pack your laptop or tablet, just keep in mind: This is your time to truly enjoy your cruise vacation, so you’ll want to avoid distractions that will prevent you from luxuriating in the Caribbean sights and sounds right in front of you!
When you’re thinking about what to pack for your Caribbean cruise, remember to leave room in your luggage for the souvenirs you’re sure to find along your cruise to the Caribbean. You may want to take home authentic Caribbean crafts, spices, Caribbean-inspired paintings, and all sorts of unique treasures.
Is it cold at night on Caribbean cruise?
While you’re cruising to a Caribbean island, you might not think you will get chilly, but it can get downright cold on the open water at night. Restaurants and the casino can also be a bit chilly, and you’ll want a lightweight sweater or pashmina to keep you warm.
When you leave the ship for a beach-day shore excursion, you’ll want something to carry your beach items in. Bring a tote bag or back pack from home so that you aren’t stuck juggling towels, sunscreen and your book!
A tote bag also comes in handy if you want to do a little shopping at the cruise port. It’s much easier to throw everything you purchase into a tote bag than struggle to carry around several shopping bags.
Can you swim on a cruise ship in November?
I’ve cruised during Thanksgiving to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Beautiful, warm waters…great for swimming. I’ve also found the pool temps very comfortable and inviting.
I live in New England, and we are lucky if the water temps hit 70 degrees by the end of the summer!

How many times a day do you change clothes on a cruise?
- Dress Code: Check your cruise liner’s dress code for casual and formal wear expectations. Most cruises no longer ask guests to dress in black tie, though there are rules about what not to wear to certain venues. Typical dress codes on a cruise ship are “relaxed luxury,” “smart casual,” and “evening chic.”
- Destinations: Dressing for a trip to the Bahamas in mid-summer looks totally different from an Alaskan cruise vacation. You may need to dress for various situations and climates, from breezy beach clothes to hiking outfits. Check the ship’s itinerary and onboard activities when planning your wardrobe.
- Duration of Cruise: Whether you’re going for a weekend getaway or a luxury week-long stay at sea, the types of clothes you’ll wear on a cruise are generally the same. Pack two outfits per day of your trip, including casual day wear and evening wear. Repeating outfits is also perfectly acceptable!
Packing for a cruise typically requires more clothing than your average vacation. Also, most cruise liners do not offer self-service laundry, though you may be able to add dry cleaning or laundry services to your package for an additional fee.

How much money should I take on a 7 day cruise?
So what do things actually cost onboard? Which cruise lines include what? And how much cash should you take on your next cruise? We’re here to help you figure it out!
Experts say the average cruise passenger spends anywhere from $52 to $89 per day, but the amount you’ll spend will, of course, vary based on cruise line, ship, experience and your individual preferences.
Walking around with wads of cash is unwise while traveling in general, but cruise lines are in many ways considered a “cashless society” where your room key or ship ID is used to charge items to your cabin versus money. If preferred though, you can certainly choose to use cash in most situations on a cruise – bars, spa, casino, excursions, shops, etc.
Insider Tip: While onboard, we recommend leaving most of your cash in the safe inside your stateroom along with important documents, passports, credit cards, IDs and more.. What Do Things Cost on a Cruise?. If you plan on eating at specialty dining restaurants, sipping cocktails every day, enjoying spa services or taking excursions in every port, you’ll probably spend more.
Should I take a jacket on a Caribbean cruise?
Just as important as the clothes you pack are the shoes you wear. If you plan on exploring the ancient Mayan ruins in the Western Caribbean, consider comfortable sneakers to navigate the extensive grounds. You may want to pack water shoes for when you ride majestic horses through shallow waters or hike past cascading waterfalls. While lounging poolside or on the golden beaches, opt for sandals or flip flops that you can easily slide on when strolling to the bar for a refreshing cocktail. When it comes to what to pack for a Caribbean cruise, your checklist should keep you covered from head to toe.
The warmth of the Caribbean sun can be felt radiating through your body from head to toe. So, be sure to pack sunglasses and a hat to keep your eyes and face protected. If you aren’t as vigilant with sun protection, aloe vera can be a lifesaver. In addition, feel free to pack snorkel gear if you plan on floating through the luminous waters with wild sea turtles or friendly dolphins – although, many excursions will provide this equipment for you.
Grandiose remnants of Mayan palaces, limestone icicles embellishing the Conch Bar Caves and royal blue rivers weaving through balmy forests — your Caribbean adventure is brimming with postcard-worthy moments. Make sure to pack a camera so that your explorations can live on through awe-inspiring photos and the stories they spark. If you’re someone who uses their phone to snap pictures, don’t forget a charger for on board and a portable charger for when you’re on the go. To capture the underwater rainbow of fluttering fish, don’t forget to pack a waterproof camera and dive even deeper into all that the Caribbean has to offer.
How many outfits should I pack for a 7 day cruise?
Here’s what to pack for a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean. No matter where you sail to, clothing is going to take up the bulk of your suitcase. You should average two outfits per day, as you’ll wear one during the day and one at night for dinner.
I find that I like to re-wear at least two or three outfits at night to save space. Plus, I just don’t like having to plan seven different outfits for each night. This, however, is a personal preference.
In the Caribbean, daytime wear is equivalent to what you’d wear to the beach or when partaking in an active activity at home. On some days, a bathing suit and cover-up might be sufficient, especially if you’re going on an excursion and spending all day on the beach or by the ship’s pool while at sea.
On other days, you might opt for an excursion with a specific dress code. You cannot, for instance, go zip-lining through Jamaica wearing flip-flops and swim trunks.
Is it worth getting a balcony on a cruise?
Even on smaller, more luxurious ships that don’t feel crowded, a balcony is desirable; if the weather is such that you can spend a lot of time on your balcony, it’s like having an additional room.
What to Expect: The hottest new trend in expedition cruising—itineraries to the most remote destinations on earth—is vessels that have all the comforts of small luxury ships, including private balconies. Expedition vessels built since 2014 increasingly have more spacious accommodations that include verandas. Cruise lines whose newest expedition ships have private balconies include Ponant, Scenic, Seabourn, and Silversea. In other cases, lines such as Lindblad offer balconies only in top suite categories.
On Silversea’s Galapagos-based Silver Origin, a temperate climate offers lots of opportunities for enjoying your balcony; this one’s part of the Royal Suite. Photo: Silversea.
Is it OK to wear jeans on a cruise?
Casual. To most of us Brits, casual means one thing and one thing only– jeans! The good news is that denim in the form of jeans, jackets, shorts and skirts is generally a perfectly acceptable daytime casual cruise look, often combined with a T-shirt but check before you go for lunch – those designer jeans may cut it for a promenade on deck but some lines don’t allow jeans in their restaurants, however expensive they might have been!
Fitness freaks can feel free to lounge around in lycra during the day, and of course, no cruise suitcase is packed until it contains at least two swimsuits and cover-ups. Bear in mind swimwear and flip flops are almost always a big no-no at mealtimes unless you’re having a relaxed poolside snack.
Casual can be harder to get right for an evening look as it’s all about looking as if you haven’t tried too hard, but in general, the rule is to ditch the denim and t-shirts in favour of casual shirts and trousers/smart shorts for men and laid back skirts, sundresses and ‘dressy’ tops for ladies.
Are the seas rough in the Caribbean in November?
Caribbean Weather in September, October and November: Ocean temperatures stay around 83 degrees, but due to hurricane season, sea conditions be choppy and rough.
