What Is A Balcony Cabin On A Cruise Ship?

Balcony cabins are a popular type of cruise ship accommodation, offering a private outdoor space with a small table and chairs. They are similar in size to regular inside or oceanview cabins but with an infinite balcony style, making the balcony and cabin one space. The basics of a balcony cabin are the same, whether located midship or aft. All have twin beds convertible to queen- or king-sized beds, a deskvanity combo, and a private verandah.

Both types of cabins include a place to sleep, clean up, store belongings, and enjoy a break from the lively vibes elsewhere. Balcony cabins are usually larger and have a private outdoor balcony space. They often have both a floor-to-ceiling glass door leading to the outside and floor-to-ceiling windows that create an outward-facing wall made entirely of glass. Ocean-view cabins without balconies often have just a single window.

Balcony cabins are typically smaller than inside cabins, with no view to the outside. Obstructed view balcony cabins are typically located where parts of the ship’s structure, such as lifeboats or equipment, block the view. Balcony rooms are usually some of the priciest on the ship, with pricing varying between cruises. Balconies are easier to snag and are a better value, especially on larger vessels like Celebrity, Holland America, and Oceania. Balcony cabins range from those that barely hold two chairs to huge ones.
