The Clipper 2023-24 Round of the World Yacht Race concluded at the Grand. Sailing terms and phrases refer to language specific to the sport of sailing, including boat parts and the Type 45 Royal Navy destroyer. A stealth ship is a ship that employs stealth technology construction techniques to make it harder to detect by radar, visual, or other means.
An anchor windlass is a mechanical device used to hoist and lower the anchor and its chain on a boat, typically with its own circuit breaker to protect it. A telltale is a small ribbon or piece of fabric attached to a sail or sailboat, helping sailors understand how the wind is flowing over the sail.
The Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony was described as ambitious, historic, and spectacular. Five boats are currently in Stealth Mode, meaning their position is hidden from the other yachts and the Race Viewer, allowing them to try out various tactical maneuvers. The boats are expected to be in Stealth Mode for 24 hours during the race, allowing them to trial various tactical manoeuvres.
A ship with stealth tech that has been detected is no longer stealthed to the ship that has detected it, until the stealthed ship. Some sailors may prefer to avoid places like the Gulf of Aden and the Straits of Malacca, as they want to get through there.

What is the stealth mode technique?
And in this content-riddled business landscape, company’s are struggling to create enough content to stay relevant, so they tend to share more than ever before. But there are benefits to being secretive too. Stealth mode allows businesses to temporarily conceal their product, brand, or any aspect of the business, as to not alert competitors of what they are working on until the last minute.
This tactic allows companies to be first to market, leave competitors trailing behind, and most importantly, doesn’t allow competitors to copy ideas or launch a similar product around the same time.
That’s why many startups are now going into stealth mode, initially flying under the radar and avoiding as much attention and publicity as possible. The idea is to develop products and services in secret, out of the sight of competitors. And then, enter the market when the product or service is advanced enough to stand on its own and hold an advantage against new market entrants.
What is meant by stealth?
Stealth means sneakiness. When you do something with stealth, you do it so quietly and carefully that no one notices. You might admire the stealth of your cat when she sneaks up on a mouse.
Stealth and steal come from the same root word and used to mean the same thing. Stealth is still certainly a quality useful in stealing, but the meaning has branched out. It can also be something quietly done in secret. For example, a stealth bomber is an aircraft that’s hard to detect by radar. Or if you plan a birthday party by stealth, then the guest of honor will be pleasantly surprised.

Can a U.S. aircraft carrier sail into the Black Sea?
Under Article 11, Black Sea states are permitted to transit capital ships of any tonnage through the straits, but Annex II specifically excludes aircraft carriers from the definition of capital ship. In 1936, it was common for battleships to carry observation aircraft. Therefore, aircraft carriers were defined as ships that were “designed or adapted primarily for the purpose of carrying and operating aircraft at sea”. The inclusion of aircraft on any other ship does not classify it as an aircraft carrier.
The Soviet Union designated its Kiev-class and Kuznetsov-class ships as “aircraft-carrying cruisers” because the ships were armed with P-500 and P-700 cruise missiles, which also form the main armament of the Slava-class cruiser and the Kirov-class battlecruiser. The result was that the Soviet Navy could send its aircraft-carrying cruisers through the Straits in compliance with the convention, but at the same time, the Convention denied access to NATO aircraft carriers, which exceeded the 15,000-ton limit. While the Soviet Union built its aircraft-carrying cruisers in the Black Sea, neither the Soviet Union nor Russia has ever based them in the Black Sea.
Turkey chose to accept the designation of the Soviet aircraft carrying cruisers as aircraft cruisers, as any revision of the convention could leave Turkey with less control over the Straits, and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea had already established a more liberal passage through other straits. By allowing the Soviet aircraft-carrying cruisers to transit the Straits, Turkey could leave the more restrictive Montreux Convention in place.
What is stealth shipping?
- Key Takeaways. Discreet shipping is used to protect customers’ privacy by not revealing the contents of the package. It is typically used for sensitive or personal items such as adult products, CBD products, medical products, beauty products, pharmaceuticals, vape products, high-value items, and subscription boxes.
- Discreet packaging typically looks plain and simple, often with no branding or identifying information on the outside. It may be a plain brown or white box or a plain envelope. The packaging may also be unmarked or have minimal labeling that does not reveal the contents of the package.
- Discreet packaging can affect the unboxing experience in several ways. It can make customers less excited to receive the package. However, brands can take the opportunity to spend money on the branding of the box’s contents instead of the packaging itself.
- Businesses may choose to use discreet shipping for various reasons, such as protecting their brand, protecting the privacy of their customers, and complying with legal requirements.
- The seller needs to communicate clearly and honestly with the customers about the discreet packaging policy and how it will affect the unboxing experience.
- Different types of discreet packaging are available, such as plain brown boxes, plain white boxes, plain mailing envelopes, Jiffy bags, bubble wrap envelopes, and custom-made plain packaging.
- The specific packaging used may vary depending on the item being shipped and the needs of the business or customer.
- It’s important to note that while the external packaging design may be plain and simple, it should still be sturdy and able to protect the contents of the package during transit.
Discreet Shipping FAQs. Is Amazon Discreet With Shipping?. The company ensures that no one can see what’s inside the package or even know to whom it’s addressed before it gets delivered. No labels on the outside of the box give away its contents. However, some items sold and shipped through third-party sellers may not be as well-packaged, so if you’re concerned about your privacy, check this before making a purchase.
How Do I Discreetly Receive a Package?. Most retailers and online stores offer discreet shipping during the checkout process. It is common for courier companies to provide this type of confidential shipping service at no extra charge to their customers. As a result, porch theft can be prevented, and customers’ privacy can be protected.
What is the point of stealth mode?
In business, stealth mode is a company’s temporary state of secretiveness, usually undertaken to avoid alerting competitors to a pending product launch or another business initiative.
When an entire company is in stealth mode it may attempt to mislead the public about its true company goals. For example, it may give code names to its pending products. It may operate a corporate website that does not disclose its personnel or location. New companies may operate under a temporary “stealth name” that does not disclose its field of business. To enforce stealthy behavior, companies often require employees to sign non-disclosure agreements, and strictly control who may speak with the media.
At the in-company level, a stealth mode can also refer to a new project or idea that is kept secret, not just from external parties, but also from internal stakeholders in order to avoid a (premature) dismissal of the idea. Key behaviors can include soliciting informal project sponsors, engaging in covert testing of the concept, freeing up extra resources and building a “cover story” for the project.
What does stealth mean mode?
Taking place in secret Taking place in secret. Stealth mode often refers to the policy of a startup when developing a unique product or that an established company takes when creating something new. Everyone is sworn to secrecy, and a low profile is kept until launch time.

What does stealth mean in jets?
The goal of stealth technology is to make an airplane invisible to radar. There are two different ways to create invisibility:
- The airplane can be shaped so that any radar signals it reflects are reflected away from the radar equipment.
- The airplane can be covered in materials that absorb radar signals.
Most conventional aircraft have a rounded shape. This shape makes them aerodynamic, but it also creates a very efficient radar reflector. The round shape means that no matter where the radar signal hits the plane, some of the signal gets reflected back:
A stealth aircraft, on the other hand, is made up of completely flat surfaces and very sharp edges. When a radar signal hits a stealth plane, the signal reflects away at an angle, like this:
What does stealth mode mean in Clipper Race?
Stealth Mode is a tactical card which each team can use to hide their position from the rest of the fleet for a period of 24 hours. Up to two stealth modes may be available depending on the length of the race and they can be used back to back.
Like all yacht racing there are a series of penalties for infringing the rules. Experience has shown that crews who are successful in the Clipper Race are those that are best able to combine the three elements of boat speed, preservation of equipment and effective repair of breakages.
The Clipper Race Committee’s normal method of penalising a yacht for an infringement of the race rules, or for being found guilty after a protest, is for a time or points penalty to be added to the result of that race. But we go beyond that and apply it to sail and also equipment damage. Thus, a penalty point system has been developed by the Clipper Race to encourage these three elements of good seamanship and safety.
Equipment DamageThe Clipper Race Committee keeps a running total of the costs of lost and damaged equipment and will impose 1 penalty point to the relevant Yacht when the running total reaches £500 and an additional 1 penalty point for every subsequent £500. The following is a list of typical examples, the list is not exhaustive:
What does stealth mode mean in sailing?
Stealth Mode is an option the teams can deploy to ‘disappear’ from view, hiding their position from the opposition. What is it? A team in Stealth Mode does not show up on the position reports sent to the other teams (and the public) for three consecutive position reports, giving nearly 24 hours of ‘invisibility’.

Does the US have stealth ships?
Reasons the primary reason is stealth. The unique angular hole reduces the Zumwalt radar cross section making it appear similar to a small fishing. Boat.
What does a stealth ship do?
A stealth ship is a ship that employs stealth technology construction techniques in an effort to make it harder to detect by one or more of radar, visual, sonar, and infrared methods. The Type 45 Royal Navy destroyer. Examples of stealthy ships.
A stealth ship is a ship that employs stealth technology construction techniques in an effort to make it harder to detect by one or more of radar, visual, sonar, and infrared methods.
These techniques borrow from stealth aircraft technology, although some aspects such as wake and acoustic signature reduction (acoustic quieting) are unique to stealth ships’ design. Although radar cross-section (RCS) reduction is a fairly new concept, many other forms of masking a ship have existed for centuries or even millennia.
In designing a ship with a reduced radar signature, the main concerns are radar beams originating near or slightly above the horizon (as seen from the ship) coming from distant patrol aircraft, other ships, or sea-skimming anti-ship missiles with active radar seekers. Therefore, the shape of the ship avoids vertical surfaces, which are effective at reflecting such beams directly back to the emitter. Retro-reflective right angles are eliminated to avoid the cat’s eye effect. A stealthy ship shape can be achieved by constructing the hull and superstructure with a series of slightly protruding and retruding surfaces.(citation needed) Furthermore, round shapes on the ship are eliminated or covered up, examples being smokestacks and gun turrets. Also, cavities that present a horizontal face are to be eliminated since they are very visible to radar. To bypass these limitations, many ships use features such as panels that cover reflective surfaces or use alternate designs of hardware. Additionally, efforts are made to minimize gaps on the ship. Hull shapes include tumblehome hull designs, which slope inward from the waterline, and small-waterplane-area twin hulls (SWATH), which allow for better stability when using a tumblehome hull. These RCS design principles were developed by several navies independently in the 1980s using work done on aircraft RCS reduction as the starting point.

Well, when you remember that the inventor of the jet engine, an English man, wasn’t supported by his government, that as early as 1937 they had a working jet-propelled aircraft but stopped research, and that all his work was given to the motors manufacturers like Rolls Royce because of the war effort, being an inventor in strategic sectors is a hard life.
Personal opinion: Make them even smaller, cheaper, and unmanned/slaved to the destroyers. Then you’ve got yourself a winner. Manpower is expensive, and if you don’t need to have these deployed actively at all times, then you also don’t need to worry as much about range. All it needs to carry is sensors and a light load of munitions. Enough to disable 1 – 3 threats. Deploy as needed, in larger or few numbers, replace easily.
I noticed a thumbnail before noticed the website, I’m so glad it’s not click bait! This website is awesome! This website & Dark5, knows the topic, keeps us entertained and learning something new that pretty much is not what you think that you thought you knew about something you have thought about, and assumed!
Brilliant propeller design……………..using the bubbles generated by the props being placed in front of both the subs to dramatically reduce drag……………………..I immediately thought how this concept could be applied to ftl travel………………..TY “Not What You Think”………………Michael;)
Error: The narrator said that the Ghost has a “Supercavitation Hull”. This is wrong. The Ghost uses “cavitation bubbles” to reduce water resistance accross the SWATH hull. That’s called “bubble lubrication”. Supercavitation hulls are something totally different and are still very much in the experimental and testing phase. The Ghost was a sea vessel that advanced a lot of theories about propulsion and stability. It’s a fantastic ship built by a visionary engineer and designer.
I attended a symposium about 10-12 years ago about maritime combat operations in the future. All the “experts” there seemed to agree that the bulk of maritime combat would take place in littoral zones. I forgot the exact number but something like 95% of the world’s population lives within a couple miles of a major body of water so, this type of craft makes sense. However, the experts there said that traditional props were almost not an option and jet drives were the word of the day. IMO, jet drives have a similar level of vulnerability, just different. Cavitation and debris are still huge issues just in different ways. Especially with assault crafts, landing on a shoreline or beach is still tricky. Part of our SOP for insert/extract on a beach was to reverse the jet drives themselves(not reversing the boat with buckets) to remove obstructions from the intakes. That said, I think the Ukrainians are showing the “experts” how it’s really going to go down- a sea of unmanned kamikaze drone ships that were built using off the shelf parts from Amazon or alibaba. A $500 bundle of stuff ordered online has taken out bridges and billions of dollars of high tech warships.
I’ve been designing something similar for the past few year’s. I hope I don’t run into the same problems. My design uses the Swath 3 design, has a heli deck and able to dive down to 130′. My design is not military based. But oceanic research. It’s still government funded. My design is based on stability not speed. I’m looking at max speed to be around 28 mph (24 knots). It’s what the craft does and what the second part is that makes the whole thing nice. I figured the full size will cost around 60 million dollars and has the ability to have a revenue of around 500 million per year. It can carry up to 22 scientists/ customers.
Around the early 1960’s, the secrecy act was also applied against the inventor of the laser. I can understand the defense department wanting to restrict such developments from being snapped up by adversaries. But I don’t understand why they don’t at least provide just compensation, and then fund a small scale research effort to evaluate its potential. In the realm of defense and ‘black’ budgets, a few million$ as compensation for secrecy would. not even amount to ‘chump change’.
The US Navy has a gaping strategic hole in their battle order, and large hull naval ships may soon become a thing of the past. With better and faster anti ship missiles and torpedos large easier to target ships ships days are numbered in any open conflict. Smaller more numerous PT and torpedo boats are key and the US Navy hates them just as the US Air Force hates helicopters. Sure you would would probably need to deliver these smaller ships around the world in an actually conflict and they wouldn’t be able to arrive in an area to exert military pressure during peace time. But the US Navy seems to have a lack or preparedness to be able to whip up hundred if these kinds of ships in case of outbreak to war. The US Navy is the most expensive of the military branches and will suffer the most catastrophic losses at the outbreak of the next war, and they are happy to wastes billions on faulty big ships that won’t even last until then.
that double propellor system was developed n my fathers engineering dept, terminal island,ca in 1968, CODE WORD ZERO BUBBLE? zero bubble was used on the vietnam small river boats in 1968 til 1972, the front blade was 3 or 4 blades with the rear blade being double the front blade, 1% drag and zero bubble, undetectable on sonar!
I’m wondering if the limited range of the craft is really much of a factor, since the purpose of the craft is to provide protection for the fleet, and the craft will fit inside the well deck of a larger ship within the fleet. Also, the addition (or, more likely, the substitution) of a more efficient power source could reduce the volume of the overall system. All of the spaces used for fuel can be used in other ways.
I think they should be incorporated into carrier groups. Just build a big ship to carry and deploy them when needed or, more like what the US would do, alter something we’re already using to do it. If smaller boats have such tactical advantages, then why not take a bunch of smaller boats out with you. At the very least, a ship spitting out a bunch of those would be intimidating, and at best, they can neutralize the smaller boats that might be attempting to hit our ships in coastal waters
Absolutely tragic. I hate our military-industrial complex so much. They told him to sell the rights or they’ll make it classified so he can never succeed. As an inventor, I’m utterly disgusted by how our government “fights for freedom” yet all this man wanted was the freedom to own and sell what he spent his life on.
Frontal props have been considered for hundreat years+ and considered a bad idea since then. First, a pulling allow teh gap between hull and propller to open forcefully, making sealing a horror. Then it creates instability to the vessel, and the water displacement creates a counterforce while pushing against the hull. The thing with cavitation is not new also, and made on supercavitation torpedos, f.e. Still this isen’t SC, but some smaller kind of the same idea. The problems with this is that cavitation is the one thing propellers try to avoid like cancer – because for props, it IS cancer. Cavitation are in fact a bazillion little detonations on yor blade, wearing it down in no time. While i can’t see how underwarter gas turbines should lower noise levels (water is the best sound medium around), cavitation effects are are headshot for silence anyway. Not that this type of sound detection would be much of a thing for such boats, but anyway – its just a weird arguement imho.
As far as I know: they said they will help develop it into a potentially useful ship; in exchange for exclusive use of the designs and tech (not uncommon with military tech) -he said no because he wanted to also sell to foreign militaries and civilians.\r He had patents and demonstrator but he didn’t have a viable product, he needed alot more money and help -all the gov did was bar him from getting that money/help from foreign countries but when he asked to discuss working with allied countries; they let him….seems pretty reasonable tbf and pretty far from sensationalized conspiracies.
Carroll Bennett, a personal friend of mine, had a parallel situation. He flew a P-51 in WWII and shot down two ME-262s. He later located the surviving pilot from one of them. They had planned on meeting up, but they were in senior years and Carroll died of a heart attack shortly before their planned meeting. He passed about 6 years ago. He and his wife continued to sky dive until their end. Now he doesn’t need wings!
This technique of placing te propellor in the front would be nice to use on torpedo’s. It would make them superfast with the bubble effect getting rid of the waterresistance and because they only travel on relatively short distances they have no risk of getting damaged befor reaching their targets. Lesser resistance higher speeds means also greater reach with the same energysource so it coulld also make the size of the torpedo smaller or the explosive chamber bigger. One of the biggest disadvantages of travelling underwater is waterresistance and airbubbles solve this.
I’m old enough to remember sitting in this before the new normal but it’s not what you think. I also remember not thinking it’d ever be featured here but this is the second time but it’s not what you think. I made a wrong turn after they opened the replacement bridge that has a roadway until it lowers for trains which in itself is cool AF. Amazing what asking a dumb question can lead to.
The under hulk vortex can keep signal radar lowest but LIDAR can be beated only by projector of inverter with cloud negative projector help fight LIDAR but infrared need conseal in ambient temperature with smallest contrast so cloud projection of light polarized is key but who feet the bill will get it
10:00 oh yes, our navy would have had a field day with all those corvette-sized Ghosts as a replacement for old Chamsuri patrol boats, if only the waters it was supposed to work in were not infested with fishing nets from three surrounding countries. It might have become mul-gwishins (water “ghosts”, or rather a euphemism for drowning) very fast.
Years ago I was at Boeing in Renton. They had a facility on the water there. I asked the engineer what it was for, did they bring pieces in by barge, etc?. His response was that was the place where Boeing built hydrofoil gunships in the 1960s. I asked him why they still don’t build those and he told me the reason was, that they worked great, they were fast as hell, they were really fuel efficient, but when they hit one of those 3 ft diameter peeler logs in the bay, the whole damn thing went underwater! Water, it seems, has really been crap floating around in it! Guess what happens when one of these things hits it?

They are like the fighters from Star Wars. No great range but fast fighters. A cheaper smaller unmanned version would be interesting. We fly drones around the globe, no reason this could not be done. With no need for a crew department, comfort would not be an issue and they could carry more fuel and arms.
Perhaps this technology has been fully embraced by the US military, but this type of public story helps keep it under wraps? It’s like the Tacit Rainbow (loitering anti-radar missile) project which was officially scrapped in the late 80’s. There are some weapon systems you don’t want others to know you actually have until it really matters.

Its abilities sounds a lot like CB90. Its complexity seems unreliable and I think it would be better to invest into a proven system like the aforementioned CB90. Small & fast boats with modularity would be good for closing gaps and can be carried on board larger ships (such as LHDs) when travelling across open seas. RIBs are not capable enough for these tasks.
It’s km/h! km/h! Not kph. You can use kmph, okay. But many people who grow up with metric system don’t get what you mean with kph because their is no unit thst starts with “k”. “k” standsfor the Boltzmann’s constant. The main units for speed are m/s, m/min and m/h. “k” is just a prefix that means “a thousand times that” and can be use for every unit on earth. The whole point of the metric system is the standardization of a language to describe the universe.
Our plan here we are working on to get funding for the military…\r In a nutshell, AirnB regulated like hotels, trespassers caught conscripted to the army, some go to build trains, some the psychos they go to the front lines. Those are maybe going to change as time goes forward.\r I was speaking to Igor Dombashschitski from the Dombass region who is now stationed in Africa and he said that there have been many casualties on the front lines since robots have been deployed there.
Was hoping it was gonna go from water glider then go under water like a space fighter that would be hard to fight if there was small subs that could move like a drone moves in there air but fast enough to dodge a torpedo and take out mines . It might as well just jump out the water and fly through the air why not . An all Terrain war machine . Land water air and space should be possible by now . Goes into space and drops a giant spike
I was base police at the place this was made and it wasn’t that secret imo… also it’s even uglier in person and takes up more space thank you’d think. Juliet Marine brought this to the party late and honestly all the hype wasn’t really behind it imo. It was cool to see this before the public though. I believe it’s still down in Portsmouth NH by the salt yard by downtown.
As an inventor, I can tell you that he should have worked with the government by transferring his patent and intellectual property Into their hands in exchange for their contract … and I understand the dichotomy and a natural desire to exploit his proprietary interest into the public domain for profit … and you see what happened, the government apparently has the legal right of eminent domain over your property rights, whether it be land or IP. Of course, you might think that someone who was smart enough to create the whole thing would realize this primary strategy… unfortunate and common mistake
Our navy needs a fleet of these ships to offer coastal protection for the U.S. and for its fleet of ships. It can put a 50 to 200 mile shield around our more expensive ships. These boats can easily be equipped to take out much larger ships, to take out aircraft and even to take out subs. And they can also take out high speed boats used by the Iranians. They are too versatile, too fast, too inexpensive and too deadly not to mass produce. It’s a serious mistake by our Navy not to embrace this technology. The American people would feel far more secure in this new age of technology if they knew these crafts were being used to give them a protective 200 mile shield from attack.
I have to tell you that I would not only file patents in the U.S.A. but in every other country as well. That way no matter what “secret” order was place upon the U.S.A. patent, I still could easily talked to outside U.S. about the sale of my boats. (Even having a multi-national corporation not subject to U.S. restrictions.) The U.S. military/government should never be able to put a person/business out of business, or restrict patents without actually buying them outright for the full value. That is part of the Constitution.
Man this isn’t a new thing, to my knowledge the navy is gonna try to replace cruisers with destroyers, the thing is they forgot what destroyers were originally made for and why there was a distinction between them and cruisers, during WWII there was the exact same issue, destroyers were originally focused on carrying a few light guns to have the agility and velocity combined with just enough fire power to destroy torpedo boats, as well as several torpedo launchers themselves, but as WWII was coming around the corner destroyers were having less torpedoes and depth charges and becoming bigger and loaded with more guns and heavier guns, destroyers were turning into cruisers, not even replacing them but people just forgot what destroyers were all about, I see this exact same issue coming about currently, and although I trust my military I do believe that they are prone to making the same mistake as had been made already, my guy said it well: “it’s ironic, how history repeats itself”
🤦🏻♀️Have a modified intake built around the puller propellers. You’ll lose some power, but gain protection for it. Also, redesign the propulsion units to be raised above the water line to decrease draft as needed. Add a secondary water jet system for when the propulsion pods are in the ‘up’ position. Think Star Trek’s USS Voyager. The trade offs may be viable…
And btw the Germans invented a speed boat during ww2 which was like a one leg catamarane, with the engine in the submarine portion and only a small fly bridge. Despite its advantages it had so many drawbacks that it was not introduced. In particular very bad manouverability, extreme turn radius, sensitivity against speed changes…
