How old is the average yacht owner?
Nearly everywhere in luxury, in fact, buyers are seem to be getting younger. The average age of a Rolls-Royce owner has dipped to 42 years old, and even farther up the ladder of lavishness, superyacht owners are typically around 50 years old. Not only are these yacht owners younger, they also are often new to the industry, jumping into yachting with fortunes largely made in tech.
That trend is expected to continue, according to research from Italian yacht builder Rossinavi and the University of Monaco, with the average age of superyacht buyers decreasing 10 to 15 years over the next decade. That could make Millennials the primary buyers of superyachts.
The topic of younger buyers is a constant discussion in shipyard boardrooms and among designers looking to modify their designs to this changing market. It was also one of the topics at the recent Yachtmaster event in Key West, hosted by Benetti Yachts. Benetti sponsors Yachtmaster events twice a year (the European edition was in Budapest last month) to brief captains and other professionals on new trends in the superyacht industry.
Why are shoes not allowed on yachts?
25 Jun Why You Need Shoe Covers for Your Summer Yacht Trip. The barefoot rule for yachts and boats alike is an age-old practice made to keep the teak decks undamaged, and dirty soles away from the clean and sparkling floor. Commonly, shoes stay outside the cabin, and no shoes are worn on deck, also. Street shoes can track in dust, dirt, mud, chewing gum, and even tar that can ruin custom carpets and the other expensive floor coverings most luxury boats have. A lot of people can feel uncomfortable being barefoot, and that is why shoe covers are the way to go on your boating adventures.
At Shoe Cover Magic, we understand the importance of keeping things clean, while not taking off your shoes. Our three-step system is ideal for yachts and boats to work your way around the barefoot rule. The first step is to choose a dispenser. We offer two dispenser sizes that are unbelievably easy to use. The second step is to select your shoe cover. We would recommend the SCMSB600-ESD shoe cover because it is skid resistant and is one size fits most. It is also white, so it is not too distracting from the rest of your yacht attire. Another great option is the SCMSB600 because it is the most skid-resistant, significantly improving traction and friction. This shoe cover is also great because it is entirely waterproof, which is very important for your time on the water. This cover is one size fits most with the strong elastic band. Your system is complete after the third step, finishing it off with a remover. When it is finally time to take off your shoes, you’ll have three size options to choose from – regular capacity, high capacity at 33 gallons, and high capacity at 55 gallons. You’ll know what’s right for your boat or yacht based on how many people are on board and how often you set sail.
With our system, your boating trips will be stress-free like they should be. You don’t have to worry about taking off your shoes and throwing them in a basket when you can be comfortable with our shoe covers. They’ll keep the boat way cleaner than your bare feet, and that is something important to remember. Head to our website to look at our three-step system to keep your yacht trips clean and hassle-free.
What equipment do I need for a yacht?
Therefore, the minimum possible set that will ensure the safety of sailors should include personal water rescue equipment in the form of life jackets for all adults, children and animals (dogs, cats) on board. A life raft, a set of oars, a scoop, a bucket on a rope and life buoys are required.
Going on a sea voyage, do not forget to equip the boat with fire extinguishing equipment. To give signals to others, one should have not only a radio set, but also more primitive sound and light signaling means, as well as a powerful waterproof lantern.
For long-term navigation at a distance of 60 miles from the coast, it is required to have a radio beacon or a satellite communication buoy, as well as equipment that informs about weather conditions and weather forecasts.
In a waterproof bag with documents, also put the flag of the yacht’s nationality, distress flags, and if you cross borders, you will need quarantine and customs flags.
What do yachts have?
Depending on size, a cruising yacht is likely to have at least two cabins, a main salon and a forward stateroom. In smaller yachts, the salon is likely to have convertible berths for its crew or passengers. Typically the salon includes a dining area, which may have a folding, built-in table. The salon is typically contiguous to the galley. A cruising yacht is likely to have a head (bathroom) with a marine toilet that discharges waste into a holding tank. Larger yachts may have additional staterooms and heads. There is typically a navigation station that allows planning the route.
- Electrical power, provided by batteries recharged by a motor-driven alternator (sail) or by a generator set (motor)
- Water, stored in on-board tanks, refilled on shore or replenished with a desalination water maker
- Sanitation, provided by toilets using seawater and discharged into holding tanks.
- Refrigeration by ice or an engine-driven mechanical system.
Modern yachts employ a suite of electronics for communication, measurement of surroundings, and navigation.
Do yachts have TV?
Long before that Internet thing smacked us in the societal face, television shocked the world in a similar fashion. And while web access hasn’t yet become the norm on boats — though it’s growing by leaps and bounds, year after year — TV is now a standard item on just about every boat with a cabin large enough to weekend in. That could mean anything from a small flatscreen on the bulkhead to a 40-inch television that silently rises out of an innocent-looking tabletop at the press of a button. Either way, if your boat has enough interior space for a galley and a berth, chances are there’s space for a television aboard as well. No matter where or how the TV is mounted, picture quality and channel choices depend entirely upon one thing: reception. And reception at sea is a bit different than it is on land. If you’re getting ready to shove off the dock and head out into open waters, you’ll need to make the right choice — or all you’ll be seeing is static.
KISS TV. The simplest and least expensive way to get reception aboard a boat is, and always has been, to mount an exterior TV antenna. Naturally, this only gets you broadcast TV, which by today’s standards is rather limited. On top of that, picture quality can be expected to be erratic and grow worse the farther you get from metropolitan areas. On the plus side, it will only cost a few hundred dollars to go from watching snow to watching “Snow White.”
The most basic version of a marine TV antenna is the omni-directional, non-amplified variety. These look more or less like a Frisbee or pie plate, can be found for as little as $100, and don’t need to be pointed in any particular direction. As you might expect, they also don’t produce shockingly good results. Omni-directionals with amplifiers and/or gain control are a small step up, as they give the signal a bit of a boost. Directional antennas, which can be pointed to focus reception, are a bit better. Sort of. If your boat is static, focusing on that signal can help. But if it’s swinging at anchor or bobbing around in the waves, your “improved” picture may fade in and out as you move back and forth.
