Is Traveling To Morocco Safe For Jews?

The establishment of the State of Israel led to a worsening situation for Jews in Morocco, as Arab states united against the new Jewish state. Restrictions were placed on Jews in Morocco, and acts of terrorism occurred, carried out by radical groups. However, Morocco is open to international visitors and generally considered safe to visit. According to local tradition, many of the Jews who used to live in the mountains of Morocco descended from Amazigh tribes that converted to Judaism. Morocco is one of the few Muslim countries actively attempting to retain and preserve its Jewish past. Many Jews from around the globe come to see the country.

Morocco has experienced the effects of terrorism, with three of the five targets being Jewish institutions in the 2003 Casablanca bombings. Morocco Travel Land currently has increased caution due to terrorism. Terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Morocco, and Morocco has taken steps unique in the Arab world to safeguard Jews’ history and role in society.

Morocco and Israel have friendly relations, with many Israeli citizens traveling to Morocco regularly to visit various zaouias on pilgrimage and to visit land in the old city owned by their forefathers. All Jews, especially Moroccans, are welcome in Morocco, but they should not be Zionists, be it Jew, Christian, or Muslim. Morocco is generally safe for Jewish tourists due to its long history of Jewish presence and tolerance.

The National Security Council listed countries to be avoided under King Mohammed VI, such as Turkey, Morocco, Egypt (including Sinai), and Jordan. Under King Mohammed VI, Morocco is tolerant of its domestic Jewish community and Jewish communities abroad, as well as Israeli tourists.

Which Arab countries can Israelis visit?

Arab/Muslim countries that allow entry for Israeli citizens include Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Morocco, and Mauritius. While some Arab countries have good diplomatic relations with Israel, some would prefer to have a visitor with an Israel passport stamp stepping through their immigration. Many visitors to Israel often make short trips over the border to Jordan and Egypt/the Sinai Peninsula, so the question of whether an Israeli stamp in your passport will limit travel to these countries is valid.

However, two of Israel’s immediate neighbors, Egypt and Jordan, are more than happy to accept visitors with Israeli stamps in their passports. Lebanon and Syria, two other countries that share a land border with Israel, do not permit visitors to their country if any trace of a visit to Israel is found in a passport.

Is Morocco friendly to American tourists?

Morocco is considered a safe country to travel to, provided you understand its laws and cultural customs. Crime rates are relatively low, but be aware of scam artists and pickpockets. Tourist hotspots like Marrakech, Fes, and Essaouira are considered safer than rural and remote regions like the Atlas Mountains. However, unique challenges and threats exist for solo travelers, female travelers, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Morocco’s economy heavily relies on tourism, and locals often prey on visitors with scams and tourist traps.

Petty crime and pickpocketing are common issues, especially around souqs and medinas. To protect your valuables, carry small amounts of cash, avoid expensive jewelry, and keep money or valuables out of sight. Be prepared for aggressive begging and selling tactics from vendors, especially around ATMs in tourist hotspots. Finally, leave your passport and spare cash securely locked in your hotel safe.

The Atlas Mountains, which were briefly closed to tourism after an earthquake in September 2023, have reopened. However, violent crime and the likelihood of terrorist attacks in Morocco are high, particularly due to the increasing number of Moroccans sympathetic to Daesh and other extremist groups.

What is the risk of traveling to Morocco?

Morocco, under King Mohammed VI, is actively supporting the Palestinian people through humanitarian initiatives, including medical and food aid to Gaza and the West Bank. In June 2024, a humanitarian operation was launched to provide medical aid to the Palestinian population in Gaza, including forty tons of medical supplies for burn treatment, emergency surgical and orthopedic supplies, and essential medicines. The embassy of the State of Palestine in Rabat, Israel-Morocco relations, and Palestine-Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic relations are also important aspects of this cooperation.

Is it safe for Jews to go to Morocco right now?

Morocco’s history of Jewish presence is a key factor in its safety for American Jewish travelers today. The country is a mix of Muslims, Jews, and Christians, with Jews first arriving in pre-Christian times and co-mingling with Berbers and Arabs. Jews joined the Muslim waves of escape during the Christian conquests of southern Spain in 1492 and coexisted peacefully with the Arab-Islamic colonization of Morocco from the 7th century. Moroccan Arabs and Berbers (Amazigh) favored Jews for their business acumen, including silversmiths, jewelers, and craftsmen.

Prior to World War II, the Jewish population in Morocco was around 225, 000. King Mohammed V protected Moroccan Jews from being shipped to Europe and sent to concentration camps, stating that “in Morocco we don’t have Jews, we only have Moroccan citizens”. This act of protection for the Jewish population is not just political but also a historical aspect of Morocco’s people.

After the war, a steady stream of Moroccan Jews to Israel turned into a flood after Morocco’s independence in 1956. Today’s population of Moroccan Jews is around 10, 000 at the most. This mass immigration was partly initiated by the Israeli government and by Jews seeking a better life. Since Moroccan independence, the ruling Alaouite dynasty has continued to support the Jewish minority, with Hassan II actively working to bring peace to the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Morocco views tourists as a whole, respecting all races and creeds, including Jews. In the Imperial Cities, mountainous regions, and Sahara desert, Jewish travelers are treated equally and are not singled out. Upon arrival in customs, travelers are required to fill out a form similar to what they would in the USA or any other country. Jews are not singled out, and even if they have Israeli stamps in their passport, it is not an issue. Morocco is committed to developing tourism projects under the comprehensive tourism plan Vision 2020.

Many Israeli citizens regularly travel to Morocco, visiting Jewish zaouias and visiting land in the old city owned by their forefathers. Morocco has a rich history of sacred Jewish sites. Currently, around 10, 000 Jews live in Morocco, primarily in Casablanca. However, Morocco’s Jewish population is an aging population.

How do Moroccans feel about Americans?

Since Morocco gained independence from France in 1956, the country has been dedicated to maintaining a special relationship with the United States. This is based on historical ties and personal friendships between Mohammed V, Hassan II, and now Mohammed VI with their American counterparts. Morocco has also played a crucial role in explaining the larger role of Arab policy to the United States, especially under King Hassan II. The United States’ support for Morocco was driven by regional stability and the country’s phosphate reserves.

After Morocco gained independence, President Dwight D. Eisenhower congratulated King Mohammed V, expressing gratitude for the country’s peace and prosperity. In 1957, King Mohammed V visited Washington to meet with Eisenhower, and two years later, Richard Nixon met with the King in Rabat.

While Morocco boasts a relatively low crime rate, it is nonetheless imperative to maintain a state of vigilance and personal security. It is advisable to avoid poorly lit areas, to refrain from travelling alone at night, and to ensure that valuables are kept hidden from view.

Can Israeli citizens travel to Morocco?

Israeli citizens planning to visit Morocco for tourism or business must apply for an electronic visa (e-visa) at least three weeks before their planned departure to ensure they receive it in time. Upon arrival, they must present a copy of their e-visa at the port of entry. It is recommended to stay updated with the latest travel requirements and consult with relevant authorities for the most current information.

Is Morocco friendly with Israel?

In September 2020, U. S. President Donald Trump announced he was seeking direct flights between Rabat and Tel Aviv. In December 2020, Israel and Morocco agreed to establish full diplomatic relations, signing the Israel-Morocco normalization agreement in light of the Abraham Accords. Previously, official ties had not existed due to the Arab-Israeli conflict, but the two countries maintained a secretive bilateral relationship following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Moroccan king Hassan II facilitated a relationship with Israeli authorities, which are considered to have been instrumental in stabilizing Morocco and reducing anti-monarchy threats.

Morocco had a large Jewish population before Israel’s independence from the British in 1948, and hundreds of thousands of Israeli Jews are of Moroccan origin. Under Hassan II, the topic of Israel was highly controversial in Morocco, and contacts with Israel were only made under the table. During Operation Yachin, Morocco allowed 97, 000 Jews to emigrate to Israel between November 1961 and spring 1964, in exchange for money: $100 per immigrant for the first 50, 000 Jews and $250 per immigrant thereafter.

  • My dear Moroccans! I really wish you spoke Hebrew to understand the LAST MAN’s interview! He is absolutely adorable! He tells the most beautiful story, with so much love, and deeper feelings. Returning to the exact town that his parents were from in Morocco, and being overcome with this feeling like he was connected to the place. He is SO sweet!! The translation of his words in this article is really simplistic and bad, and does NOT do his story justice! His words are SO beautiful and you can FEEL his love, if you speak hebrew. It is a beautiful story!! MUCH LOVE TO MOROCCO! From Israel

  • What you incorrectly failed to mention Corey is that the Kingdom of Morocco 🇲🇦 never rescinded the citizenship of it’s Moroccan citizens of Jewish confession. They are the only Muslim majority nation (of which I’m aware of) which has done so. André Azoulay is a Moroccan Jewish senior adviser to king Mohammed VI of Morocco. He previously advised Mohammed’s father, king Hassan II.

  • Morocco was actually pretty good to its Jewish population especially for that point in history where Jews were being killed and persecuted everywhere in Europe and the Middle East. Morocco was treating its Jews fairly well. Please Jews come back to Morocco! I am part Moroccan and visit there often and Morocco is very welcoming to you guys. We view you as Moroccans and love the history we have with you. At least come visit once in a while! Much love

  • Hello Moroccan israeli here! i am actually only half but i grew up with a lot of Moroccan culture in my life. My dad would listen to Moroccan music i dont know the name of the song but it was one he would listen to a lot it talks about a mother very beautiful song. My entire life i ate Moroccan food and still do, my mom learned from my dads mom. Anyways love morocco<3

  • Waaaw Moroccan arabs attacked you ?! Are you kidding me ? They left morocco to found israel ! Not because of attacks ! We didn’t and we will never do any bad to our jews brothers ! They can come back to Morocco and live in peace ! Just come back and everything will be alright ! You still have your origins here ! Don’t let your kids and the new generations forget where they come from !

  • I’m Ashkenazy and I live in Morocco and Married Moroccan And I really don’t understand why they saying they don’t want to go to Morocco first of all Moroccan not or Arabs and all Morocco and Israel are ignorant they don’t even know their ancestors didn’t know their Music they don’t know the food it’s nothing to do with freaking couscous there’s so many food instead of couscous that’s all the freaking sand couscous you know there’s a Tajine And Msimen And many many more and they’re saying they don’t want to go back to Morocco because the scare the Arabs I’m living here for so many years with them Magan David on my freaking chest not even one Muslim tell me anything

  • Moroccan dialects aren’t arabic though, they’re berber dialects mixed with some arabic and French, stereotypically Berbers are the white ones and arabs/everything else are the darker/Saudi Arabian looking ones, many of the ones who speak the dialect are actually Berbers in origin but grew up speaking the Moroccan dialect

  • I am Moroccan, from casablanca and let me tell you that jews still live in here and do whatever ceremony they want without any problem if it considers the security and racism, and i am just so disappointed that israelis can get the moroccan citizenship and are allowed to visit the country but we can’t got o Israel..

  • Loved the last guy. As an American expat, I can tell you that you can have 3 passports as long as all 3 countries allow it. I’m applying for my 3rd right now. Even in Iran, many of the people I know talk about the Jews they knew who left for Israel. Apparently in Kermanshah there was a spice market called the “Jewish Market.” Although they understand why the Jews and Christians left, they feel sad about it.

  • I think some of these people were made to be ashamed of their roots as Moroccans, ask a Moroccan Jew living in Europe how they feel about their Moroccan roots and you will get a different response. I saw it first hand in the US, one of my good friend’s mom is a Moroccan Jew that grew up in Morocco until she was 7 then moved to Canada, in a dinner she hosted, an ashkenazi Jewish lady was trying to bad mouth Morocco as it was an Arab country(she had never been), I couldn’t even get a word in before she literally shut her down😂😂😂

  • Moroccans are arabs AND berbers (amazigh ) despite the fact that berbers were here before arabs, Moroccans can still be arabs too !! I mean …. who made Morocco a muslim country ? arabs !! my mum is an arab and my dad is berber… !!! i’m berber and arab and proud !!! and what ?? racism towards jews IN MOROCCO ?? ARE U KIDDING ? I have two jews neighbors and they are like my family, when i forget my Keys, they always invite me to their home !! besides when i was younger, I had jews friends and there was NO difference…. people who say Moroccans are raciste should really work on their commun sense !! Moroccan and proud !!! (kpop lover too kkk)

  • Jews have settled in North Africa since Roman times and a Jewish community existed in the Roman province of Africa . The acceptance by the Berbers of Judaism as a religion, and its embrace by a number of tribes, may have occurred over time. French historian, Eugène Albertini dates the judaization of certain Berber tribes and their expansion from Tripolitania to the Saharan oases, to the end of the 1st century

  • Moroccans are not Arabs. After a recent scientific study based on DNA from various places in Morocco, 93.8% of Moroccans are native North Africans(Berbers). The rest is diverse between people from the Middle-East, Horn of Africa, Central Asia, Southern Europe, West Africa, South Asia, and Central Africa. Therefore, the people in Morocco calling themselves “Arabs” are just Arabized Berbers and this is a known fact. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moroccans#Haplogroup_distributions_in_Moroccan_people

  • I don’t know what to think about this article,, I met some of the Morrocan jews in North America.. Some of them are happy and proud of their Morrocan roots, some the opposite especially young people,, I don’t know maybe because of the military service they become very Israelian nationalist.. I learned to not even mention it and let people be what they want to be..

  • Israelis of Moroccan descent can petition for a Moroccan passport. Our government consider the children of Moroccan immigrants (to Israel in the 1950s) as Moroccans. It’s something to keep in mind. Morocco is a lovely place to live, start a business and enjoy life. In Morocco we believe in the principle: “Once a Moroccan, Always a Moroccan.”

  • When I visited Morocco last summer, my cousion told me about a Jewish moroccan. He and his brother said he was better than some of the Muslim moroccans they knew. TBH there are always going to be people who hate and people who are cool with you and don’t Care about your background. I had a Jewish best friend and she was so sweet and I just loved her to death. and I have a Jewish friend now who is from France but her father w as born in morocco and her mother has Algerian roots. it’s all cool, I don’t hate Jews in any way shape or form. maybe one day I might get into a fight with a person who happens to be Jewish but I would never hate a whole population. And hopefully that goes for alot of Jews out there too.

  • Me as moroccan, arabic, spanish and muslim love to know people from around the world. I don’t hate nobody for ethnicity, or religion or whataver. I think we all should live in peace and enrich ourselves from different languages, food, music, etc. I only do hate people who kill innocents, no matter who.

  • Morocco is a country where Judaism is recognized as one of the national religions in our constitution, No other Arab/Muslim state can boast the same thing, granted that is no big deal for 1st world countries, but in this side of the world it is, Judaic culture is a big part of the Moroccan identity, whether anyone likes that fact or not. Jews were never discriminated against, and they still aren’t.

  • I thought I’ve read somewhere that we (moroccans) all have some percentage berber DNA. The arab influence in our country is mainly throught language. Most people do speak arabic (or Darija) So even if you only speak arabic, you have berber DNA. I don’t hate anyone.. I love all people. So no hate against arab or berber.. Most cultures are made out of many culture combined… I am just proud to be MOROCCAN!!! 🙂

  • I am the daughter of a Moroccan Jew. IMy Papa came to the US from Casablanca in 1948. My Papa was born in 1917. He spike Maghreb Arabic and French mixed together. Papa was the best father and worked hard all his life as a letter press printer. Papa was an amazing cook and taught me how to make olive chicken and homemade french bread.. Papa loved Moroccan music and so do I. We would listen to Salim Halali, Lili Elbessey, Cheik Raymond and, of course, Enrico Macius. Papa also loved everything by Pucchini. I love and miss him so much! RIP Simon Cadeaux born Shimon ben Jacob Kadoche.

  • We live as humans, no one cares if you re a Muslim, Jewish, black, white ; spread love and hospitality is all what it matter by the Moroccan, that is why it is one of the best countries in the world in term of culture and peace . I invite all the people from different communities to my house in Agadir . You are welcomed anytime you visit us.

  • The girl with the glasses is a big liar or something wrong with her. First, Jews left Morocco. Because of incentives from Israeli government to move and settle in Israel, second I never heard of Moroccan Muslims marrying Jews by force. This is the jock of the century bro, our grand parents lived with Jews side by side with no issues, they breast fed their babies when moms don’t produce Milk, in fact Jews left Morocco with tears in their eyes yes, some of them did not leave they stayed in Morocco because the love for Morocco and Moroccans undertaken their souls.

  • Moroccan Israelis usually vote for extremist right-winged parties such as Likud, I personally think it’s because they need to prove a point to the Ashkenazis and people with prejudice against Nort African & Middle eastern Jews because they come from Muslim countries. To the Moroccan Jews who never been to Morocco, you certainly missed out, big time! I feel sorry for you.. I love Morocco!

  • I am very very proud of being morrocan and Morroco is your country and you come wherever you want and we are very proud of you and no one can seperate us i mean algerian who hate morrocan especially jewish morrocan but i dislike some people saying i cannot live in moroco but i can visit it as isaid earlier you can come at any time my brothers

  • 11:48 I understand why home boy flaked out. I think he might have been feeling the question was leading to: if you are Moroccan why don’t you leave Israel because you don’t belong here and you should be in morocco. Also some mixed race people sometimes don’t appreciate being judged according to their ethnic background.

  • Asking people “why don’t you return in Morocco ? ” and saying “it’s asked by Moroccans ?” never heard moroccans asking this question before ! also most of them are ashamed to have a Moroccan root, the article feels like we Moroccan are begging them to return :O also what a lie she heard from her family saying they suffered in Morocco that’s why they decided to leave !!

  • The second guy was really full of himself. This claim that all Jews are somehow special and chosen and therefore superior to others is exactly what drives a lot of anti-antisemitism. It’s not specifically aimed at Jews, any group of people that goes around claiming automatic respect and admiration simply for belonging to some ethnicity is going to get hated, whether Nazi’s or Jews.

  • That guy who talked about the different sides of his families and how they were different was interesting. It reminds me of how my Ashkenazi side of my family is emotionally distant. While my Croatian side is much more emotionally expressive. I’ve often wondered if emotional distance is an Ashkenazi thing?

  • The way the talk about this is almost like Morocco 🇲🇦 doesn’t belong to Moroccans. A family acquaintance of ours was born in Montreal to Sephardic parents who spoke Castilian and I always thought it was quite odd that he never knew any Darija. I’m French but I can never consider these people as part of my people. They are just wanderers dwelling in the lands of others.

  • At (20:42-47). He said ( They were breastfeed by the local Arabs in Morroco) He also said ( They are NOT ALLOWED TO BREASTFEED THE MUSLIMS) Why Not allowed to do so in Jews tradition/religion ? In Islamic if you breastfeed a child which is not your’s, then that child will be like your own child he/she can’t marry your own child (they are brother/sisters).

  • 3:43 they left morocco because of antisemitism no lady they left morocco because they want to immigrant to make a good living also she said Moroccan muslim forced to marry jewish girl wtf was that never heard about that when spanish kick out jewish from spain morocco was the place to host you we treat moroccan jewish like every moroccan more that moroccan muslim celebrate jewish holidays and moroccan jewish celebrate muslim hilidays

  • Hello, I’m Moroccan and The jews lived here for thousands years. Sorry they had to move. we wish you still live here. Despite everything, all the Moroccans (all of them amazigh actually) were jews once before they became christians and before they became muslims. So you’re welcome to visit your home 🙂 .

  • Why ask them a question that would put them in a awkward situation where they would feel like they have to pick between countries and alliances knowing darn well each one would say they would not want Moroccan citizenship? What was the point of that question? Additionally the way you ask your question makes ppl defensive because you are dismissive and creating an uncomfortable vibe. Why not be more polite and warm when asking these questions instead of sounding like you are in a rush and instead of being dismissive when they give you long answers?

  • What makes me curious is that you will often hear “I’m Moroccan (or Persian, Iraqi etc) and Ashkenazi….Never I am Polish and Mizrahi…..whenever talking about Mizrahi…very specific…Ashkenazi general…..I once heard that this is because the Ashkenazi has been here longer and intuitively sees himself or herself as Israeli

  • I dont understand why its a big deal i am moroccan and i have friends who are moroccan jews we have lived peacefully together for years and we respect each other i do think that jewish people even the ones in Israel and never came to Morocco love moroccan people and we have no issues with them and many arabic countries get so offended because of relationship with them well they have lived with us for years how can we not acknowledge them or hate them? Yes we feel for Palestinian people but the issue is with the government not the people they are just trying to live their lives just like everyone else

  • We all are moroccans muslim, jew, chritian I’m a Moroccan with a two-state solution.I mean, I’m with the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital. And with the state of Israel with Tel Aviv as its capital. I just want to ask what’s going on in Sheikh Jarrah’s neighborhood?Anyway peace be upon you all

  • I always wondered if the story of girl’s kidnappings for conversions were true since we didn’t heard echos of said girls the following years… It was trouble times anyway, i doubt that a modern jew would consider living here considerins their other opportunities, and frictions with moroccans would probably occur on an undefined range… Nonenthless i’d suggest tourism, business investment in services and luckily you’d even take your righful place of conjunction between the east and the west…morocco is becoming a hub with south-south economical vision. Pardon my low english

  • I am Moroccan born in jewish neighbourhood of meknes. Mellah. I did dna test. I am berber of atlas mountain. Family blond blue eye. I am Muslim raised. But we all knew we are jewish. Dna came. My family and I are from austria Hungary Poland Belarus and Germany and Spain north Africa. 25% azkenazhi jewish and 75 sefardish Jews. Berber origanaly are jewish. First queen of Morocco was jewish kahina is her name. 80 procent of Moroccan are Jews. Arabs brough islam to Morocco. I am angry. The most important advisor of King of Morocco is andre azoulay. We are family. I am so sad that Jews left Morocco. The Arabs hate the berber. We have different language and writing. We love you. Shalom .

  • The “Ugly Israeli”???? That was NOT nice!! As someone who lives in Israel, you should understand that some people are very closed, and protective of their private information. Many based on their background (whether or where they served.) And many bc of their personal experiences. But don’t call them “Ugly!”!

  • You guys don’t understood us and you will never understand us,Zionism is idea that we jewish should and have the right to live in thier land Zionism is different to judasim but have connection to jewish people if you say you love jewish people but anti zoinist it like you love jewish people but you saying they have no histroy with that land and have no right to live in that land as jew I born ethiopia but I don’t want to live in ethiopia because we dont want to feel fear and we want to live with our people that have the same mentality and mindset who understand us (we just understand each other because we are jew and we just connecting by old histories don’t matter where he is from mizrhai, Sephardic, magrhabi, ashekenji ) we will face anti jew and anti Semitic again simple as that for explaine we don’t trust just non jewish people for explaine you can’t express your emotions and your thoughts to non jew person you just dont you fear that he will hate you and will backstab you by telling people that you jewish that what happened with our old generations jewish people that lived in arab countries and Eroupoean countries they killed, convert by force . People in general should be open minded and have good mentality and mindset to aceept people it doesn’t matter genders sexuality race nationality religion ethnicities body skin you period ☮

  • Nice article, but there were some mistakes in it, the big one is talking about Moroccans like if they were Arabs. (maybe this mistake is because of the media that pictures Morocco as a part of the “Arab world”). anyway Jews are good people and as an Atheist Berber I want to say that you are always welcome to Morocco, it’s your homeland too just like Israel. and I wish you peace and success.

  • One MSG to the young guy at the beginning of the article. He should love Moroccan Arabic people because they helped Jewish when Hitler want to bring them to the Nazi Compounds in Poland, etc. The king of Morocco Mohamed V refuses the deliver Jewish people to Hitler because he knew what was the purpose (He want to kill them all) Since that period, many Jewish people live in Morocco in peace and respect with Muslims So don’t say that you don’t like to go there because there are Arab people. It’s very stupid We love Morocco

  • I am 100% moroccan muslim and i went to school with a moroccan/french jew girl for 4 years and i can tell you that not one time has anyone ever treated them badly in their life. Jews are respected here in morocco contrary to what people think . Moroccans are very friendly and hospitable to all races … I don’t know what people are on about.

  • I think Moroccans are one of the least racist towards Jews… the Fact that when some of my Muslim friends say certain things yet I just can’t bring myself to even tolerate any of it shows that it’s deeper than simply upbringing but in the blood not to be anti-Semitic… At least that’s my theory LOL! Even with all the craziness going on in this world… I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but compared to many other places its definitely a lot more chill than they think! They obviously had negative experiences. One of my good friends is going Morocco for a holiday with her mum – they’re Jewish yet theyre nothing but excited. People seriously need to open up their horizons man… I don’t blame them for saying those things though really! There’s this ingrained fear that Jews have, but us Arabs have it too.… I was scared/didn’t trust Jews when I was younger but it all seems very rediculous to me now… I get on with everyone as long as they are cool with me. One love XXX

  • I’m Moroccan Arab with no Berber heritage. Actually with my family name being Al Rashidi, it’s projected by my grandfather that his great grandfather originated from present day Saudi Arabia. We live next to Jews and have been living next to them for decades. These Jews are very aware of their religion and history unlike many of these interviewed who seem to lack knowledge of Jewish world history. Morocco is a peaceful nation. Most Muslims are peaceful people. Most Jews are peaceful.

  • I am muslim and I went to the center of Casablanca pretending I was Jewish and I was looking for a kippa to pay tribute to Rabbi Pinto in the cemetery in the old town… I did and everybody was nice and respectful towards me… I turned up the candle on Rabbi s Pinto grave at the exact time the caller was calling for Asr

  • I like morrocan Israelis. I think that they deserve to be their. Because yes there is discrimination against Jews now in Morocco. So I can understand why they left. it is not their fault. I am not Jewish. I feel sad for the Palestinians. I wish that Palestinians and Israelis could just live together without war.

  • moroccans never kicked any jew out of the country, the way our late kings welcomed jews, the kings that came after never closed that door on any one, morocco is your country to visit at any time you wish to, and before you build a judgement out of invaluable thoughts, have your own experience and then build what you like upon it.

  • Why all moroccans jews left morocco at age of 18 and won’t like to come back to work in their own country ? And why some jews still think that most moroccans are not educated and most of them are anti jews . If you are real moroccan muslim or jews you should be very proud above all the jews because they are the ones who came to morocco first before the muslims … peace to all of you vive le maroc

  • Peace with you my brothers and sisters. I hope that someday you go at least visit the home land of your family. And show your children were your family come from. Morocco is got some important Jewish saints and very old cemetery’s for a Jew it will be like going to Mecca. Jewish history in morocco is the oldest in the world. Peace from morocco.

  • Don’t understand why this lady is saying that the Moroccan Jews left because of antisemitism 😳 this is false I grew up with my Jewish neighbors I even use to go to the synagogue on Friday we were equal and very close to each other. Now what she doesn’t know is that Israel was doing all what is possible to bring them to Israel and I remember that the uncle of my neighbors that has left to Israel in the 70s was not in favor that the rest of the family move to Israel because of what they found and how they were treated. I urge this lady to come and visit her country and see how we preserved synagogues and Jewish cemeteries, non only that, Morocco is still one if not the only country outside of Israel where you can find courts for Jews to settle their issues when related to divorce, heritage…. . There is no antisemitism, there is no hate, there’s only love that we have for our Moroccan Jewish brothers and sisters that we miss too much. Cheers.

  • Obviously none of them lived in morocco because we don’t have hate crimes based on religion. Beside we’re a mix of arabs and amazigh plus some of us has European roots because of the colonisation ( a lot of French and spanish soldiers fathered a lot of kids that they left behind after morocco independence)

  • Stop referring to moroccans as ‘arab’. Morocco is african, our culture is berber, the only difference is that some moroccans talk darija which is a mix between arabic and berber. Besides, darija looks nothing like the real arabic from the middle east, i have middle eastern friens who always joke about the fact that they barely understand a word when a moroccan ‘arab’ talks to them in darija. Y’all got identity issues, thats what being oppressed by the middle east for so long has done to our nation. For those moroccans who still think theyre arab, please do an ancestry test and find out that you are NOT middle eastern. Scratch an arab and you will find a berber.

  • do someone remember that the prime minister in morocco some years ago was jewish too,his name was André azoulay. between 1391 and 1492 jews from spain fled persecutions from spain and found security and protection in Morocco, the sultan himself said that the king of spain was stupid to throw away hardworkers of that quality. please don’t make segregation between arabs, berbers, muslims etc.there are good peoples and bad peoples everywhere.the jewish are part of the moroccan history and lived in peace with muslims for many years. i’m agree with what said lxould about Muhammad 5 of morocco,he protected jews in morocco and never shipped them to nazis. so maybe you can understand how shocked i was when i saw all the lies some people said on this article(forced weddings, persecutions, racism etc.) some ashkenazis are most racists against sefarads than the arabs 😉 how a people who suffered so much can promote zionism, persecute palestinians, and revendicate a colonized country as promised land,i don’t understand. 🙁 maybe they never readed thora

  • Im Moroccan/Palestinian arab i wish you all stayed in Morocco not only from a Palestinian point of view but from a Moroccan one the jewish culture of Morocco gonna be lost in a couple of decades and we were always nice to the jews there wasnt that religiousness racism but you guys decided to leave 🤕

  • “If you’re a person that doesn’t shine in any way, nobody will hate you” Genius. Absolutely true. On a lighter note, seems like only a Jew could end up convincing half the world that he is a God. Bless you Jesus! Jesus is the only Jew that keeps shining and being loved at the same time (loved with the exception of ISIS and the likes who call the West “crusaders”).

  • And for the second girl, anti semitism has never existed in Morocco or any Arab country m Muslims and Jews lived in peace and they shared food, houses and a lot of things, they were like brothers and sisters, anti semitism was in East Europe, North African jews are victims of Sionist plan, they should have never left their countries .

  • Morroco is Arab African country and moslem weither u like it or not,, tell that to mauritanians and they will laugh at u,, if u see Islam killed the country Judaism are not better than Islam,, and Berber good didn’t do for morroco good either and western world who control ( scientology atheism ) are not doing good for north Africa or other parts of Asia

  • For the last person, he said something untrue, maybe some (muslim) people hated other non-muslims but nothing in the quran forbid us to breastfeed a baby born from non-muslim parents… a baby is a baby and if I were a mom, I’d breastfeed a hungry baby and I won’t ever bother to ask about his parents’ religion. It’s actually forbidden to marry someone who was breastfed by our mother or you by his mother, you become siblings in the tradition, hence it’s forbidden to marry him/her. That’s why these muslim women breastfed his siblings, because they were just babies, the religion of their parents have nothing to do with them… they just saw hungry babies whose mother isn’t available and helped her out.

  • The first day I was in Israel I took a minibus from Tel Aviv to Eilat and when I got off the bus the (middle-aged) driver invited me over to his house for Shabbat. I didn’t even speak hebrew, but the whole thing was great, and his family seemed really nice. The food was ridiculously spicy. I still remember what he told me about the peace process……”give the arabs a state, and if they attack us, send them to Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt”.

  • I heard that in history classes they only learn about ashkenazi history.A lot of them know nothing about their roots . I saw in an other article that some of them were claiming that the came from casablanca instead of saying that they came from amazigh towns . I think that they were made fun of by the europian jews: some of them think that if you came from north africa(berbers) or the middle east ( “arabs”) u r meant to be less civilized . and the most sad part of all of this is that they r repeating the same scenario with Africans (Ethiopian Jews) there is also some kind of ignorance :people dont make a difference between :religion, nationality, ethnicity

  • Very interesting that the man at the end stated that his family moved out at night due to a Jewish agency. Leaving their belongings behind so that they can go to an unknown land they only know from scripture. Makes you wonder … did any of these Jews wanted to leave. Or where they forced to leave friends and belongings behind due to this “Jewish agency”.

  • Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist’s » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don’t help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it’s too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people’s religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).

  • As a berber moroccan, i am very proud of the MOROCCAN JEWS. not the “ISRAELIS” who left their homeland to a stolen land from the poor palestinians. many jews still live in Morocco and we never ever mention them as outsiders. they are of us and we are of them. One nation. Diversity is welcomed here in my country, Berber, Arab, Sahrawid or jewd. i wouldn’t care and i’d respect you and love you as long as you don’t practice in any form of unjuste causes “The opression of Israelians against palestinians”. I am very ashamed of those called “moroccan israelis”. why? because a moroccan is always taught not be unjuste to others, and they are not. I feel ashamed knowing that those once we lived side by side, left us, left the good times we would still have if they stayed back here, to take over someone’s land. SHAME! you’re not a part of us, and we are not.

  • As a Moroccan muslim person, who has jewish neighbors, I see that they are juste as Moroccan citizen as me and they deserve to be treated equaly, but the thing about isreal, it is not their land, it is “a stolen land”, Abraham the messenger of God (peace upon him) told them there will be no land for them as a pusishement from God for murdering their messengers and desobeing God, it is written in the holly Quran, even some religious jews know this in their books and admit it.

  • For those who say in the comments that Moroccans are not Arabs they are Berbers.. well i’m sorry to break this to you but we are a mixture of Moroccans and Berbres we respect each other and we live in peace.. except for some few who want to ruin this beautiful melting pot .. also the majority of the jews in this article are sooo rude except for the guy at the end.

  • Their ancestors chose Judaism, ours chose Islam. We both share the same blood and are North Africans with the same DNA. We do not harbor hatred towards the Jews because we are the same people who chose different religions. Even our concept of God is similar; it’s just our way of worship that differs. What we don’t like is Zionism because it is rooted in the appropriation of people’s lands. Judaism is a religion that has existed for thousands of years, even muslim Moroccans were jews before convering into islam, while Zionism is a political ideology that emerged less than a century ago.
