Is Snorkeling On Molokini Better Than Caribbean?

Molokini Crater is a unique snorkeling spot on Maui, offering over 250 species of fish, mammals, and seabirds. It is miles off shore and has no sand or soil in the water. Lanai offers excellent snorkeling from the shore in Hulopoe Bay, with tours taking you to see spinner snorkeling at Molokini Crater.

Snorkeling at Molokini is best in the morning, with most trips departing early to catch the best light and avoid the worst of the sun. However, it may not be worth it for those just going for the snorkeling. Snorkeling on Lanai is amazing, but it is not a case of which is better.

Over the last 20 years, snorkeling and diving all over the Caribbean have had no comparison to the Maldives on any level. Bonaire is great for snorkelling, but the island is very bare. Curacao is bigger and greener, and there are more schools of fish. Molokini Crater snorkeling is good, but more of a package tour with whales, turtles, and a good view of Maui from the water.

Scuba diving in Molokini Crater is expensive, so snorkeling is a good alternative to save money during your vacation on Maui. The water is clear and the current is gentle. While Molokini back wall is grossly overrated as a world-class wall dive, the inner crater and Reefs End can be good.
