Is It Safe To Take Kids On A Greyhound Trip?

Greyhound is a popular bus service that prioritizes the safety of its passengers, particularly those aged 15 and under. To ensure the safety of all passengers, all buses are equipped with seat belts and all California passengers must wear a seat belt at all times while sitting in their seat. Greyhound also has rules to keep everyone safe and happy on board, including passengers who are unaccompanied by an adult.

To make your first Greyhound bus trip a safe and comfortable experience, consider these tips:

  1. Stay in your seat while the bus is running. Children can travel unaccompanied by an adult as old as eight years old with Greyhound, Peter Pan, and Jefferson Lines (note that fees may apply for unaccompanied children).

  2. Each Greyhound driver has their own set of restrictions to make the ride safer and more enjoyable. During stops and bathrooms, passengers should follow these rules to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

  3. Let your children help pack their carry-on bags, but secret away a few new toys in your own. Babies travel free, but noise protection is essential.

  4. Greyhound buses have stations in poor areas, but inside the station is usually safe. The bus leaves from A to B feeling safe and happy.

  5. Greyhound does not recommend traveling with children, especially for 15-hour trips, as they don’t stop often enough for kids to stretch their legs.

  6. For international travel, Greyhound’s children policies provide more details about their children policies. Children under the age of 2 years old travel for free with Greyhound as long as they are not occupying their own seat.

  7. For the ultimate family roadtrip aboard a comfortable and spacious Greyhound coach, consider top tips such as reclining leather seats, free WiFi, and in-seat amenities.

In summary, Greyhound is a safe and comfortable option for travelers, but it is important to follow these rules and ensure a safe and enjoyable journey for all passengers.

Do greyhounds get aggressive?

Greyhounds are not aggressive dogs, with their ears pulled back for aesthetic purposes. However, they may snap, snarl, and growl in response to fear, such as children, raised voices, past mistreatment, or walks. Most aggression is fear-based, and can be reduced through time, patience, behavior modification, and natural products. If a greyhound is scared of children, it is important to return them to the adoption group immediately. Growls can turn into snarls, snaps, and eventually, bites, as the child and parent are not listening to the dog’s warning.

Azmira’s Calm and Relax formula is a popular choice for reducing fear-based aggression in greyhounds. It is crucial to work with the dog through patience, behavior modification, and natural products to manage their fear and aggression.

Some retired dogs can live well with cats, while others are too “keen” to live successfully with them. Greyhounds are generally gentle with children, preferring to walk away from pestering ones. However, young children should never be left unsupervised with any dog breed.

Are greyhounds friendly with kids?

Greyhounds are friendly, well-mannered, and gentle dogs that can be well-behaved with small breed dogs, cats, and even rats. They are low shedding, friendly, and do not bark. Greyhounds are used to dining alone in their kennels, so it is important to provide them with a healthy diet.

What is the safest seat on a Greyhound bus?

The safest seats on a bus are typically located in the middle (aisle seats) between the two front tires, as they are the most protected from potential accidents. In conclusion, passengers should sit in the middle rows of a bus to increase their chances of survival in case of an accident.

Is greyhound suitable for kids?

Greyhounds are known for their gentle and laid-back temperament, which makes them excellent companions for children. • Thanks For the article, Tim. FYI, I’m 16 and have ridden the Greyhound many times even before I turned 16 by myself without paying the extra fee and filling out the form. It’s funny because on the website, the language makes it sound as though Greyhound is serious about abiding by this policy, but when you get the station, the employees could not care less about your age, unless you obviously look like a toddler or a really young child who has run away. Lol

  • In Canada, the age to travel by greyhound bus alone and accompany children under that age is 15. 8-14 year olds may travel alone provided certain conditions are met. Otherwise, they must be accompanied by an adult 15 years or older. One of the conditions are that the trip may not exceed 5 hours which is even more severely limiting.

  • If you are traveling on the greyhound bus in the United States and you are under 17, always have someone 17 older accompany you whenever possible. That being said sometimes your kid just wants to see their grandparents or other relatives and no one 17 or older can accompany them. In that case, it would be very useful to know about the 12-16 group traveling alone. The conditions are very strict so do very close checking to see if that route is a route that meets the conditions for them to travel alone. However, if they are under 12, you will either have to cancel the trip or find someone 17 or older to accompany them. Keep that in mind. If your outside the US, check the policy for that country.

  • My 12yr old would need to go unaccompanied for a 4 hour trip. Would they put her in the front seat so the driver can keep an eye on her? I wouldn’t want her to sit anywhere else in case there are any weirdos. And will the driver keep an eye on her the full trip? She doesn’t have a state ID but she has a military dependent ID that has her birth date on it and her picture/name. Can that be used as her Identification?

  • my mom can’t be there to give the information for being my guardian and I will be riding alone, she is working so my friend is taking me. my friend who is taking me is 17 years old can she fill out the information for the guardian? Or should I use my the person picking me up from the greyhound station to call and give the information? btw I am going from Jacksonville Florida to Tulsa Oklahoma it has 3 transfers do you think I would still be able to go?

  • Hi, you may not know the answer to this but can you please at least respond? Every summer I visit my grandparents in Arizona, I live in Southern California. Typically my grandma would come out and then we would fly there. That’s not happening this time and my parents are basically forcing me to go and I really really don’t want to (I also get carsick and have very bad anxiety), I know they don’t have any specific policies about that but what do you say? Thanks! (Im 14)
