Is Ford Blue Cruise A Subscription?

Ford is introducing its BlueCruise hands-free driver-assist feature as a monthly or annual subscription, with all trims of the Mustang Mach-E being the first to adopt it. This new technology builds upon Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Keeping, allowing for true hands-free driving on 97% of controlled access highways in Canada and the United States in areas known as Blue Zones. The automaker claims that BlueCruise will be coming to more vehicles and that it expects to install the feature.

The 200 per year subscription cost was a discount when BlueCruise was first introduced in the 2021 Mustan Mach-E models. Equipped Ford vehicles come with either a complimentary trial period or an included duration, after which purchase of a BlueCruise subscription is required. Modem activation is required for subscription purchase and for initial activation of BlueCruise (for pre-2024 model year vehicles).

Ford’s hands-free BlueCruise feature is now available as a monthly or annual subscription. Owners can decide to activate the Level 2 driver assistance system. The Ford Pass app shows the cost for keeping BlueCruise at 800 years or 75 months. However, the abrupt shift in BlueCruise subscription pricing from 200 years to 800 years is concerning. South of the border, American shoppers can reactivate BlueCruise for US75 per month or US800 per year if they bypassed the pre-pay.

BlueCruise costs 2,100 at purchase (for three years), while annual subscriptions cost 800 and monthly subscriptions 75. Buyers who don’t purchase the three-year access outright will have a 90-day trial.
