Is Northern Cyprus a visa-free country?
Foreigners visiting the TRNC may be granted a visa up to 90 days, depending on its type, at the designated ports and border crossings, provided that they fulfil the conditions stipulated in the Aliens and Immigration Law and they are not deemed unfit to enter the country.
The length of stay granted at the designated ports and border crossings of the TRNC cannot exceed 90 days within a period of 180 days. All foreigners who wish to stay in the TRNC for more than 90 days, are required to obtain a residence permit.
Entry to and departure from the TRNC is possible through designated ports and border crossings with a valid passport or travel document.
What do you need to cross to Northern Cyprus?
If you are an EU citizen there have been NO restrictions to prevent you crossing the North/South border in Cyprus since 2003. You are free to cross and spend as long as you wish by producing your passport or ID card. There are a number of Cyprus border crossings you can use:
Metehan (also called Agios Dometios or Kermiya) in the west of Nicosia: A crossing point where you can cross with a vehicle, bicycle or by foot.
Ledra Palace/Ledra Street and Locmaci in central Nicosia: This is for pedestrians, vehicles and cyclists. Just a stroll across to the other side of the city.

Is North Cyprus in Schengen?
As of 2018, the EU recognises the north as being outside the control of the Greek Cypriot–led government of the Republic and hence is temporarily exempt from EU legislation. Naturalised citizens of TRNC or foreigners carrying a passport stamped by TRNC authorities may be refused entry by the Republic of Cyprus or Greece, ( 8 ) although after the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU such restrictions have been eased following confidence-building measures between Athens and Ankara and the partial opening of the UN-controlled line by TRNC authorities. The Republic of Cyprus also allows passage across the Green Line from the part of Nicosia that it controls, as well as a few other selected crossing points, since TRNC does not leave entry stamps in the passport for such visits. Since May 2004 some tourists have taken to flying to the Republic of Cyprus directly then crossing the green line to holiday in northern Cyprus. ( 9 )
How do I travel to North Cyprus?
If you hold a non-European or non-Commonwealth passport and are coming to Northern Cyprus you will need a Schengen visa to enter via Larnaca. In this case, it may be easier to arrive via Ercan (Lefkosa) airport in the North using an airline which stops in Turkey on the way such as Turkish Airlines or Pegasus. There are no advance visa requirements for any visitor to Northern Cyprus and a standard 90 day visa is issued to all nationalities at the border or at Ercan Airport. Type and duration of the visa issued to the foreigners is stamped on the travel document by the Immigration Officers.
