To become a Club Penguin Tour Guide, players must first put on their Tour Guide Hat and wave to hold a sign that says “Tours Here”. When penguins come around, they can give them a tour by going into Messages on the CP toolbar and hovering over Activities and clicking Give a Tour. The quiz can be accessed from the Tour Booth at the Ski Village.

Players who are 45 days or older can take the Tour Guide test when the penguin is 45 years old and above. The Tour Guide Hat was a head item in Club Penguin, available to all penguins at no cost.
