Snorkeling underwater is a thrilling experience that allows you to explore the marine world without time limitations. The average human can hold their breath underwater for 45 seconds to 1 minute when diving more profoundly. Basic snorkeling equipment consists of a snorkel and a mask, which allow you to see the underwater world while floating on the surface of the water. Environmental conditions such as currents, water temperature, and visibility can significantly impact snorkeling safety and the duration one can comfortably stay underwater.
To stay underwater while snorkeling, keep your breath steady, clear water pressure from your ears by pinching your nose and pulling your mouth shut, and use good snorkel equipment. Clearing the snorkel is fairly easy, but snorkels do not allow you to breathe while fully submerged in the water. To acquire enough oxygen during snorkeling, practice deep breathing by holding your breath evenly, closing your lips, exhaling to relieve pressure in your ears, and using a snorkel.
To equalize your ears, hold your nose and breathe out gently through the nose, not forcing it. If you cannot equalize, ascend and try again. Then, gently bite on the mouthpiece of the snorkel, letting your lips seal around it, and take slow, deep breaths without panicking. A snorkeling experience allows you to explore the seabed without resorting to the use of compressed air.
