How To Not Fall Out Of A Kayak?

In this text, Jeff Little provides tips on how to avoid falling off a fishing kayak. He emphasizes the importance of keeping the kayak straight, fighting the fish off the side, and using a center instead of a showboating method. He also discusses the importance of practicing self-rescue techniques in case of a tip over.

If you fall out of a kayak, it is crucial to try and re-enter the kayak, especially if wearing a life jacket. If you flip the kayak, it is essential not to panic as this can affect your ability to re-enter the boat. However, if you are whitewater kayaking or in a sit-on kayak, practicing frequently can help you get in and out safely.

To maintain balance in a kayak, keep your head centered and keep your hips loose. Lay on your back, cross your arms on your chest, lift your legs to the water surface, and point both feet downstream. If you hit a rock or other obstacles, try sitting on your knees to raise your view without increasing the risk.

To avoid tipping, go wide, keep low and centred, have three points of contact, keep your paddle busy, tie down and balance your load, and practice with your flotation vest on. Practice at the beginning of every season and again about mid-season.

To avoid getting entangled under the water, relax, push yourself out of the cockpit, and blow air through your nose to prevent water from getting in your mouth. By following these tips, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience when kayaking.
