How To Modify The Armrest On A Ford Explorer?

This video from The Seat Shop provides a step-by-step guide on how to install a new armrest cover for a 1997-2007 Ford F250/F350, Expedition, and Excursion. The video covers various topics such as removing the driver’s right arm rest, repairing or replacing the driver side fold-down armrest on the 2000 Excursion Limited, and rotating armrests on captains chairs.

To remove the armrest from the stock seats in a 1999 F250 and 2000 F350, work the seat cover through and pull up. Snip 2-3 hogrings on the armrest side and 1-2 on the other side to give room for access. Release the foam on the back, unzip the armrest cover, and pull it at least halfway off to show the large bolt (removed with a 50 Torx head bit).

Reverse the removal procedure by removing the torx bolt and the arm rest comes off, but there is a piece of bar stock that needs to be cut off. There is a cover on the side of the arm rest at the pivoting point, and if you peel this cover back, there is a torx head bolt that goes through the bolt.

The replacement armrest cover is manufactured in vinyl and has been matched to the color and grain from your original cover. To remove the center console lid, you will need to remove the rear cupholders and possibly the rear control buttons on the back of the center console.

  • Honest question, does that bag make any difference to feel or sound in the armrest? Is it worth it for the user? It sounds like it is only worth it for the applier and then after that the user gets to hear a new noise and the feel is now different too. Though maybe they won’t notice because they didn’t compare fresh cover no bag with fresh cover bagged. I have ADHD to be honest this shit would annoy me a whole lot hahaha. Just saying I would rather sweat and curse at my damn truck for hours to get this on if it meant I preferred no bag was in there after.
