How To Make Cruise Ship Towel Animals?

Cruise ship staff typically use white towels to create towel animals, although colored towels may be used for special occasions or themed nights. To secure the folds and hold the shape of the animals, rubber bands or clothespins can be used. Carnival Cruise Line stateroom stewards have 37 years of experience in making towel animals, and the art of folding bath towels into animals has become a favorite tradition of cruising.

To bring this fun home, there are tutorials available on DVD from FoldingMagic.com. During a recent Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas Caribbean Cruise, cabin steward Amadi taught us towel folding techniques to create eight creatures from simple towels. Cruise ship cabin stewards have designed an impressive array of creatures from simple towels that may not be as elaborate as more advanced techniques.

To make towel animals, pinch two rolls together, pull apart, hold top and bottom firmly together, fold face cloth in half to start making the monkey’s face, latch large towel onto a hook, tightly roll both sides into the center, fold almost 34 backwards, set the point up as the mouth, fold the towel in half again so half the crease is facing downwards and the other half is on the top (step 5). Slightly pull out the little tips.

Cruise ship cabin stewards have designed an impressive array of creatures from simple towels that may surprise you. Learn to make towel animals like towel cats, bears, towel hearts, and swans, and enjoy the fun activity with the entire family.
