How To Build A Water Ski Jump Ramp?

The IWWF Official Jump Plans Materials List provides a comprehensive list of materials required to build a water ski jump ramp. The ramp must be parallel to the jump course and slightly open, with a tolerance for standard jumping between 1.00o and 2.50o open and ski flying between. There are various ways to build a water ski jump, including opting for an expert-built model or hiring a professional contractor.

Water ramping involves the science of hydrodynamics and the art of landing safely and gracefully. Mini Jump Ramps, LLC (MJR) has unveiled the first-ever, five-height adjustable, aluminum-framed miniature water ski jump ramp called The Mini. The Mini’s low-ramp height adjustments range from 18 to 18 feet.

Creating a proper backcountry jump requires more than just lumping snow in a pile, compacting it, and shaping the ramp in a generally upward direction. The deck part is made of 15 feet of 58in x4x8 plywood with 10 4 foot strips of 1×2 nailed down to hold the snow and walk up on.

To build the ramp, start with the front of the ramp by cutting two 2x4s down to 6 feet and nailing them together with three 8-foot studs to create a 6 foot ramp. The MINI patent pending introduction to the MINI and beginner jump ramp is a testament to the importance of planning and engineering expertise in ensuring optimal performance and safety in water ski jumping.
