How Many Carnival Cruise Ships Have Sunk?

In the past century, only a few cruise ships have sunk, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of passengers and crew members. The most recent sinking of a Carnival cruise ship occurred in April 1912, with the Titanic being one of the most infamous sinkings. Over the past 100 years, only 22 cruise ships have sunk, with several sinkings occurring while ships were moored or being towed.

Carnival Cruise Lines, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation PLC, has had over 30 different ships since the early 1970s, but not a single ship has ever sunk. Within the last 111 years, over 20 cruise ships and ocean liners have sunk.

Over the past 100 years, roughly one cruise ship has sunk every five years, with most of these occurring in the past 50 years. As of June 2024, Carnival Cruise Line operates a fleet of 27 ships.

Carnival Cruise Lines has also experienced several sinkings, including the Carnival Splendor and Carnival Triumph, both of which were stranded by engine fires. If the ship is sinking and the crew cannot stop it with their countermeasures, the captain will order an evacuation of the cruise ship.

In conclusion, there have been only a few cruise ships that have sunk over the last few decades, largely due to advancements in safety and technology. However, the question remains: how many cruise ships have actually sunk?
