Caroline White has announced Project Zero, a mission to build a luxurious 69-meter sailing yacht that doesn’t use any fossil fuel. Foundation Zero is driving the development of Zero, a groundbreaking superyacht aiming to be entirely fossil fuel-free. Led by a diverse team of experts, the Azimut Seadeck is leading the project. Transcendence is a potential 4,000 ton per year Certified Carbon Offset Project, reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of 1,000 average. The largest privately owned sailing yacht in the world, Jeff Bezoss Koru, is a 500 million masterpiece with equally jaw-dropping carbon.
Black Pearl, the largest sailing superyacht in the world, is eco-friendly and delivered by Oceanco in 2016. Yacht design studios Van Geest Design and Rob Doyle Design have devised a trimaran concept aiming to be the first truly zero-emission yacht over 750 gross. Sauter’s Ocean Empire LSV, designed for charter vessels, starts at around US17 million. Sunreef Yachts introduced its revolutionary Zero Cat concept, a catamaran that sails on hydrogen and produces its own power. The Blue Water capable ZEN50 lightweight racing carbon hulls are combined with a huge solar roof for an unrivaled solar power vs. displacement ratio above 1:1.
New research reaches surprising conclusions about which propulsion systems might have the lowest carbon footprint. Low carbon emission yacht charters and carbon offsetting are crucial for sustainability. Silent Yachts offers seven electric yachts in various sizes between 17.99 meters and 34.12 meters, starting from €2.77.
