Disney Cruise Line passengers under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call. Boarding time is crucial for a successful Disney Cruise experience, as it allows passengers to settle in, make the most of their time onboard, pack up the night before, finish packing on the morning of disembarkation, get breakfast, and leave the ship at any time. Port Arrival Time can be changed through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app or the website.
Boarding typically begins between 10 and 11 a.m., depending on the ship’s schedule and how long it takes for everyone from the last cruise to debark. Most cruise ships require all passengers to be on board no fewer than two. The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App is free to download and use onboard the ship, and passengers can even use the onboard chat facility to text fellow passengers for free.
The earliest Port Arrival Time for a Disney Cruise Line sailing is typically 11:00 a.m., subject to change. To save time, guests should complete their Online Check-In ahead of time and arrive during their designated port. If driving their own vehicle and planning to park at the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal, it is recommended to arrive about 30 minutes prior to your scheduled arrival time.
Early boarding can begin at 11:00 am in most ports, but it cannot start until all departing guests have left the ship. If your arrival time is after 1:30 P.M., you can board and head straight to your stateroom to drop off your carry-on luggage before grabbing your bag. If the earliest PAT offered is 11am, you can arrive early and check your bags, but you may end up waiting in a line or holding area outside the ship.
Guests can check in anytime between the check-in opening date and three days prior to sailing, but it is generally better to do so closer to opening.

Embarkation day can be the most exciting and the most stressful day of any Disney Cruise Line vacation! In todays video we share …
Can you check in early Disney Cruise?
Typically, the earliest port arrival time for a Disney Cruise Line sailing is 11:00 a.m., though this could vary slightly. Do note that you will select a port arrival time when you complete your online check in. You can do your online check in 30 days prior to your sailing. Part of this process is to choose your port arrival time. When you have completed online check in, you will print out a port arrival form that includes your arrival time on the form. Typically, the earlier that you can do online check in, that is, the closer to 30 days out from your cruise date, the earlier the port arrival times that will be available. Please note that you should not arrive at the port earlier than your port arrival time.
My family enjoys getting as early a port arrival time as we can. We like to get on the ship and head to lunch once we are onboard. That is how we know that we have truly started our amazing Disney sailing! On the lovely Disney Wish, this would mean heading to Marceline Market, which offers extensive and varied fare in a food-hall style dining experience.
On embarkation day, we are also sure to carry on any items that we need for the day. Your luggage will arrive at your stateroom later in the day, so you need to be sure to pack anything that you need for your first afternoon on board in your day bag and carry it on. For us, this often means swimwear as we love to hit the pool on that first day – sometimes before we even pull out of port!
Will Disney Cruise Line let you board early?
If you are driving your own vehicle and plan to park at the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal, I recommend arriving about 30 minutes prior to your boarding time. This should give you time to park, transport and drop off your luggage with the porters, and go through the security and check-in process before your boarding group is called. If you are traveling with a lot of luggage or with a large group, you could time your arrival a little earlier. If you are riding a shuttle or using a ride-share app for transportation, you won’t need as much time to make your way to the terminal, so you can arrive closer to your Port Arrival time. Keep in mind that Guests are generally not permitted to board early and Disney Cruise Line asks that Guests not enter the terminal until their boarding time approaches.
I see that you also asked about restaurants near Port Canaveral and I am happy to tell you that there are many options nearby. While I have not eaten at any of them, I’ve literally cruised past several that line the waterway as the ships leave the port and head out to deeper waters. You will find many seafood and comfort food locations along Glen Cheek Drive. Kevin, remember to save room for all of the complimentary food available once you board the ship!
Just a little navigational note, some GPS systems do not recognize “Port Canaveral” as a city, in which case just enter “Cape Canaveral” and you should get the correct driving directions. And speaking of navigating, don’t forget to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. While I try to unplug on vacation, I do appreciate how the app helps me make the most of my time onboard with helpful reminders. When you find an activity you are interested in, just select the heart icon next to it and the app will remind you about 15 minutes before the event begins.
I hope this information helps you plan your embarkation day––which is just days away!! I hope everything is smooth sailing for you!

Since you are looking at flights now, I would recommend an early morning flight to allow plenty of time to land, gather your luggage, take transportation to the port, and be ready at your port arrival time. I don’t want to leave anything to chance if I’m flying on the day of the cruise, so you can usually find me on one of the earliest flights just in case of any travel delays! In fact, our preference in recent years has been to fly down the day before for a more relaxed arrival. If you choose to do this, you can easily add a pre- or post-cruise hotel stay and arrange ground transportation by calling Disney Cruise Line or working with your travel agent.
Angela, I’m also happy to share a few tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years that have been helpful during the boarding process. When I’m traveling with my family, particularly with young kids, those travel days can feel quite long as we are getting to our final destination. Trust me though, when you’re singing and dancing on deck as you’re sailing away, it will all be worth it!

Now, Jan, if you’ve opted for Disney Transportation, there’s no need to fret over your Port Arrival Time. Once you’re dropped off, you can waltz right into the terminal without a second thought. On the other hand, if you’re driving like I do, leaving a comfortable cushion of 20 to 30 minutes for luggage drop-off and parking works like a charm. As most cruise lines leave port at around 4:00 pm or 5:00 pm, in most cases, you can anticipate the earliest time you can board to be at around noon.
This scheduling is because cruise ships usually run a tight schedule and may have people disembarking and embarking on the same day at the same cruise port. Guests usually disembark from their cruise in the morning – around 10:00 am. This gives the crew a few hours to clean and ensure everything is ready for the next guests.
Some cruise lines will ask you to pick a time to embark in advance. This is usually just a time that you would guess to be arriving for embarkation to help control traffic – it’s not set in stone, and you’re not bound to it.
