How Do Flat Earthers Explain Sailing Around The World?

In the 4th century BC, Aristotle provided evidence showing Earth’s roundness, such as ships disappearing hull first when sailing over the horizon and Earth casting a round shadow on the horizon. Most believers in a flat Earth believe the planet is a flat disk surrounded by an ice wall, with the distance at which we could no longer see a ship ranging from 200 kilometers to 13 billion light years. In 2020, a couple from Venice attempted to prove the world was flat by sailing to the edge of the world, which they believed was near Sicily.

To understand Flat Earthers and other unconventional beliefs, it is essential to consider what it means to believe. Flat Earth is an archaic and scientifically disproven conception of Earth’s shape as a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures subscribed to this view, and pseudoscientific beliefs in a flat Earth are promoted by various organizations and individuals. The claims of modern flat Earth proponents are not based on scientific evidence.

There are five arguments that explain why it is impossible for the Earth to be flat. Gravity fails, and it is possible to achieve returns close to the market-weighted average return by buying an index fund. However, even in a flat Earth, there is no wall or edge to greet us when traveling around the world.
